Good afternoon Nate. I'm in Rochester Hills, Michigan, thinking about purchasing the Winegard Elite 7550, seems to be the best option, also going with RG11 coaxial cable. I'm not a fan of the plastic mounting bracket that comes with the antenna though, I'm going to mount it on the side of my he/she/kids shed. Any recommendations for metal replacements of the mounting bracket and the mast? Thanks.

The plastic is designed to last outdoors. However its compatible with most standard pole mounts.

I get one channel with my Stellar Labs rooftop antenna and I'm happy.

I have that same Antop antenna, but the amp is different. Perhaps they updated it because I have had mine for 5 years. Mine just has a slide switch to toggle the amp on/off. I also think the reason why you wouldn't want to use an amp on a channel with a strong signal is that the amp also intensifies ever present noise. If the signal is already too strong, additional ampflication makes it more difficult for the television decoder to decode the stream. In my case, I had to keep the amp off because I would get fewer channels with it on. Also, not all decoders are created equal. Especially the decoders built into televisions. I mentioned it before, but external network tv decoders usually have better decoders in them that can edge out additional channels that the built-in decoders on the TVs cannot. You should really check out HDHomeRun network tuners. I get 8 additional channels with it than my LG C9 tv can by itself.

They have two versions, the "base" version has just an on/off amp and the SBS has the adjustable amp. I plan to get an external tuner to test out.

Running the coax next to electric wiring and your main panel could cause interference.

Good evening! Nate,thanks for sharing the comprehensive antenna test. I was wondering if the 91 channels received at the beginning of the video were the result of the Antop antenna in the room and can you tell me what the difference is between the two brands of antennas? I am considering adding them to my wish list.
@NaterTater2 жыл бұрын
The 91 channels was with the Winegard antenna at the top of the outdoor mast/tower. It marginally picked up two far away stations better than the Antop Big Boy.

Have you tried the regular old school 10' or 12' ? I bet it gets even more.
@NaterTater2 жыл бұрын
Yea the house had the old school one when I bought the house. These new digital antennas pick up more stations. Atleast in my case.

@@NaterTater Just FYI, there is no such thing as a digital, color, or HD antenna (all marketing labels). They are all TV Radio Frequency Antennas. Digital, color, and HD are simply what happens in the receiving devices once it has a signal good enough to work with.

For non-financially challenged Nater Tater viewers, would this Televes Antenna Preanp 560483 Dual Input Antenna Preamp Amplifier/Combiner help? Maybe even better reception with the Televes DATBOSS Antenna?

Maybe I missed this but after you got the Antop pointed right did you try adjusting the amp?
@NaterTater2 жыл бұрын
You didnt miss it but I did do that. I adjusted it to medium and low but the "missing" channels never showed on that TV.

Yes but it hurts the signal some. Might not be an issue depending how far your stations are.

You really need a rotor on that mast
@NaterTater2 жыл бұрын
It had one, it broke and I never replaced it. The Flint and Detroit stations are duplicates for the most part.

@@NaterTater Yep.....like Toledo.....it's the Canadian channels (other than 9) that the rotor comes in handy for.

Except OTA TV does not broadcast in 4K. They mostly broadcast in 480i with a select few channels in 720p or 1080i. The latter of which is honestly a complete waste of bandwidth. Seeing as literally nobody makes 1080i displays anymore and modern TVs still suck at de-interlacing.
@NaterTater2 жыл бұрын
You are correct for ATSC 1.0 but ATSC 3.0 does indeed support 4K resolution and its available at my house!
@jeffreykoerber6595 Жыл бұрын
Also, resolution isn’t a feature of an antenna. The antenna featured on I Love Lucy would be capable of bringing in 4K or 8K or whatever comes in the future if paired with a broadcast station, tuner and TV that can support those broadcasts.
