Howdy - just curious; when Weird Al made his last move, why did he not sweep up an extra 15 points (double five + five + blank) ? Do you not get to score such points on your last play, or is that an oversight? :D

I really like Weird Al and maybe that is why this video popped into my "Recommended for You" list because. although I played dominos a great deal in college I have never looked the game up in YT. Anyway it was fun to watch the game tutorial with Weird Al as your opponent... Somehow I can see Weird AL playing Dominos and having a great time with it. Oh yeah I did order pizza online tonight, actually sat here and ate it while having fun watching the game...I wonder if that had anything to do with this dropping in my recommendeds? If so glad it did, I really enjoyed the video. One thing I know about Dominos is that there are as many variations as theri are Dominos in a set, or perhaps more. I grew up on the mid-atlantic coast so the Dominos that I knew the rules for turned out to be a regional variation and when I went to Alabama for college I had to learn a very different rule set. On a visit to Michigan I picked up a few other variations and out here on the west coast there are many difference in each area. Then of course, there are competition rules and they can vary from one competition to the next with the final "Championship" match the rules used are the "Home" rules for the opponent that has the highest number of pips on the three bones drawn from the boneyard. So if you and your opponent turn over the bones and you have 24 pips and your opponent only has 10 the championship match is played according to the rules that your "Home" (the state you live in) championship uses. Just to make it even more confusing is that the "Home" rules you play with from your state might not be the 'Home" rules you are accustom to if your State has many different regional rules and so on! I suspect all of that may be why not many people make a YT Let's Play video out of domino's - they know that they will be inundated with comments from around the world telling you your rules are wrong and your strategy is based on rules that are wrong...
@ClayCarlino6 жыл бұрын
WOW! I had NO IDEA that it was THAT complicated. I just saw that the instructions were a nightmare, and then when I went online to look for rules it was no better. THEN I looked on KZbin, and the videos were all long and kind of confusing. This was supposed to be an EASY video for me, but it ended up taking me all night just because it took that long to figure a single "basic" method for playing the game. We play 5's and 3's. Similar to your game, except the score is the end dominoes total, divisible by 5 or 3. So 10 dots (or pips) has a score of 2 (2x5), 12 dots scores 4 (4x3), 15 dots gets 8 (3x5 + 5x3), etc. A total not divisible by 5 or 3, scores 0.

One more rule. If you place a domino and ask for points when no points are warranted, your penalty for poor arithmetic is as follows: The meanest person playing must toss that domino into the pool and the person with poor math skills and a loud mouth must retrieve the domino from the bottom of said pool. The severity of the error dictates the depth at which the meanest player chooses in tossing the domino. These are Texas rules which are reserved for summer months. This evolution in game play serves to increase sobriety and provides the other players additional time to compose a more robust level of smack talk.
@ClayCarlino5 жыл бұрын
Not only are these the BEST RULES EVER, but I also really want to try them out! Unfortunately I'm in Pittsburgh Pa and don't have a pool. Also, its November and freaking cold here. So best I could do is the meanest person throws the domino in the Allegheny River. The person with bad arithmetic must retrieve it, and hopefully one of the other players is an EMT and can treat hypothermia. This sounds like a new video!

This game seems very complex
@ClayCarlino3 жыл бұрын
Its not so bad once you've played through once. I feel like there are 3 things that if you remember these, the rest is easy: 1.) A domino with the same number on both ends is laid down perpendicular to the others, but it doesn't really mean anything. That doesn't make it a spinner and it doesn't meant you can branch of multiple lines of dominoes from it. 2.) You only score points when the values of the outer most sides of the dominoes at the ends of the lines add up to values that are multiples of five. (I know that sounds complicated, but its not really.) It just means that you looks at the last domino in each line. For which ever side is one the end, count the dots. Add the values and if the number is a multiple of 5, the player gets that many points. 3.) Lines can change direction at any point, but it doesn't mean anything. You can't start new lines off of bends. The only place you can start a new line is off the spinner, which is the first domino laid down in the game. So that's it. I know it sounds bad when its typed out like that, but if you can remember those 3 rules, I think the rest is easy. Best way to learn is to play though, so have fun. And if you don't end up enjoying the game, you can always set them up and knock them over. That's fun too! Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting!
