Mijn favoriete opera. In 1987 ooit in een concertante uitvoering door Opera Forum in het Concertgebouw meegemaakt. En in de Stadsschouwburg, later ook in het Muziektheater door de Nationale Opera. Door de gelijktijdige vertaling was het nu veel aangrijpender, tot tranen toe. Pieter Br*****

I heard this broadcast before I discovered the concert performance here on KZbin. I happen to think the cast did a pretty remarkable job, Davidsen and the wonderful soprano who sings the Kostelnicka being especially fine. This is a gorgeous, thorny score and this cast and conductor make a good case for it. I liked it over the airwaves an I like it when I can see the expressions on this live performance. Lisa Davidsen is a radiant Jenufa. The naysayers below don't deserve this performance.

Meravellosa Davidsen. D'on ha sortit una cantant així? Acostumats a la misèria actual, és un autèntic raig de llum. Exemple, a més, de carrera ben enfocada. Qualsevol altra amb la meitat de veu ja estaria fent Isoldes i Elektres. Gran espectacle en general, molt ben dirigit i amb una Kostelnicka digníssima. Podríem demanar millors tenors, però en els temps que corren de què ens hem de queixar... En resum: BRAVA DAVIDSEN!

Terrible performance! The singers sing without any passion. No feeling, no understanding of the text, nothing. Poor Janacek, he didn't deserve that! The singers sing so bored, as if this concert were an annoying routine for them. The conductor has no feeling, no temperament for this masterpiece. A wasted opportunity!

As the Dutch saying goes: "de beste stuurlui staan aan wal" - "the best mates are ashore". Wagner created the supreme character for this kind of critic: Sixtus Beckmesser. This last name has since been a verb in German: "beckmessern" - "to beckmesser" You did yourself proud beckmessering.
