So findet doch jeder was ihm zusagt.

Bach, as good as he was and as much a musical genius as he was, is still underestimated for his brilliance. The extent of his work, its incredible breadth is staggering, all while fathering a gaggle of children and maintaining more than full-time employment. The man did it all and did it with incomparable genius.

I am no authority but enjoyed this performance thoroughly. Perhaps a bit quick, perhaps just fine. Excellent musicianship and interplay between chorus and instruments. As for taking a little creative liberty with the performance by Rene Jacobs, isn't that what Bach may have desired as one of the most free creative intentioned beings of all time. This art speaks deeply through all time.

For those who says "it is too fast", next time please remember to write that according to YOUR personal opinion it is too fast. This might be because you are used to listen to the Romantic versions of Baroque Music. Personally I find it really exciting and refreshing. The 3/4 pulse is finally with a nice first strong beat and two lighter beats, nice phrasing and joyful. I love that this tempo allows the lyrics to receive the appropriate stresses clearly and naturally.

This interpretation is still too slow and square although it tends to point to the right direction. The first piece for example was intended to be a happy waltz and you have to image people dancing to this folk tune to do it right.

Wonderful rendering, but no near mics for the solists? In a way this is a straight way to record this music, we hear this as if we are sitting among the public. But in another way I miss the precise definition of the solist voices that comes with mics. About the tempo I am fully content, this somewhat faster tempo gives this music a better definition. Alltogether, one of the best interpretations I have heard.
