On May 3, 1971, the National Public Radio news program "All Things Considered" premiered. To mark NPR's 50th anniversary, correspondent Faith Salie interviews some of the network's leading voices, including Susan Stamberg, Audie Cornish and Eric Deggans, and talks with other network veterans who blazed a trail in radio programming, and who continue to reinvent news and storytelling, including "This American Life" host Ira Glass.

Apparently you're incredibly naive if it's your most trusted news source. Tell me this, can you justify that statement logically rather than emotionally? What exactly about npr/pbs makes it so "trustworthy" other than how it markets itself? The overwhelming bias of most NPR correspondents is so clearly apparent to someone who doesn't share those political biases. There are whole categories of issues that public radio wouldn't ever discuss. Last week the Chicago Mayor, Lori Lightfoot openly stated that she wouldn't grant interviews to white reporters on the second anniversary of her being elected the first "openly gay black female" mayor of that city. Because apparently there are just way too much white reporters in the Chicago press corps and not enough persons of color for her liking. Now Chicago is the third largest city in the US. NPR has a major station (WBEZ), and many correspondents in that city (both white and nonwhite), but they virtually buried that story on their website. And it was conspicuously absent from most of their flagship programs. I listened specifically to see if (and how) they would cover this story. Needless to say I wasn't surprised. I bet that this is the first time of you even hearing about it Maybe I'm wrong. But if you weren't made aware by NPR through *deliberate* actions on their part, how could they be your most "trusted" news source? This is objectively a major story that the press should cover; objectively. Its about the integrity of the profession itself.

I've been listening since college. KIOS 91.5 FM and WOI 640 AM! Then there's the podcasts, which essentially created standards for podcasting itself. No other news source does what NPR does. Two of my favorite joyful memories from NPR is hearing David Sedaris for the first time. Santa Land Diaries and then years later when they hired him to roast NPR. Oh my he nailed them to the floor without shame or fear. At 63 NPR has been a lovely constant nearly all my life, they were everywhere I have lived and most of that time was in very remote locations.
