This is very cool! But yet very dangerous! I remember these tracks in full working order and I remember them removing them. I cant believe someone still has footage of this! Great find! Thanks for uploading!

I have more video footage of 19th street on my KZbin channel and I will be posting more. It was dangerous, a lot if accidents involving trains happened over the years. On the other hand it also drew train buffs or railfans from all over the country that wanted to see this portion of the railroad in action.

We still have a short stretch in New Albany on the former Monon but sadly nothing runs on it except the local to the Pillsbury plant on weekdays. It runs about 7 blocks down 15th Street and is currently being repaved.

At 3:53, imagine driving down the street and seeing that coming at you! Talk about sharing the road, very cool though, here in Michigan we don't have any street running like that. The closest thing we have to street running is in Monroe where the NS line runs between the sidewalk and the road, I have heard talks about it being removed but I don't know how acurate this is. 5 stars BTW.

Great video! I’m planning on doing a video showcasing the 19th street tracks aswell. Would you mind if I used this clip in the video with credit?

Feel free to use any of the 19th street footage you want. I have more footage to post later on. The ones with my old website you can edit that part out, at the end it isn't active anymore. Please credit my name or channel to it is all I ask. Enjoy!

I remember all too well!. Me and my buddies would always hop these to get from one side of town to the other. Most went slower than these. Seemed safe at the time for 12 year old kids of course. In my old age now I DO NOT recomend it and looking back we were lucky.

Just curious, obviously the rail line was there before that street, but why build a street over the rail line? Last time I saw anything even close to that was in my home town of Northam, Western Australia. Back in the 30s, there was pretty much a rail yard down the middle of town. One spur line went straight through a hardware store's yard, into the bowels of a flour mill. Now, at much expense, all freight enters and leaves by road train

kinda of the same concept the USA is following, its cheaper to haul container from rail to ship to rail and then truck here in the USA....anotherwords most container chassis are owned by the railway, in some cases like Norfolk Southern they as well own the semi or lorry tractor...so instead of the cost of a switch and siding it can now be hauled from railway yard to dock.

Wasn't the lead locomotive on the last train a former southern railroad locomotive?

One of the many reasons the railroad relocated the mainline, grade crossing and pedestrian accidents.

"When me and my uncle"? Miss elementary school, trains? Or is 46 your IQ? Starting at :45, what is the blinking light? Oh, now we see the light and (NO LEFT TURN) lamp. Wish you had shown the signals turn on and turn off. Video near grade crossings to capture horn and crossing signal activations and bells and lights and also any mishaps. Sorry that they took up the track.
