Lived locally(just below station on North Rd.) went to school over footbridge shown on some Of Kirkburton Station photos. In the holidays if we heard a train in the goodsyard we would go up and watch the shunting and ask to go in the cab, occasionally been allowed to ride down to Fenay Bridge then walk back up the line over Rowley viaduct,a route often used if visiting friends in Lepton. Happy days.

Hi. Very interesting to here of your past. Lived in Kirkburton all my life..but don't remember the railway. Think I was about 3 when it closed ! It's always quized me about the arch, as you come up north road..looked everywhere for info but, to no avail ! Can you cast any light on this ? Cheers.

Fascinating, I walked the line from Lepton to Kirkburton a while back, but only 'discovered' the Whitacre Mill viaduct last week!

Very interesting. I often wondered about the history of this line as some fragments of the track can still be picked out even today. Thank you.

Thank you, most informative, filled in a lot of gaps in my knowledge having worked goods and passenger trains in the early sixties on the four local, now extinct lines, Kirkburton, Holmfirth, Clayton West, Leeds New Line and the goods loop from Standedge to Stalybridge, it was a fantastic blast from the past.

Enjoyed this video. It’s a pity that the dialogue is often drowned out by the rather loud and inappropriate background music.

Many thanks, Michael. I have the little book and this goes well with it. My grandfather Henry Shepherd was a(/the?) driver on Kirkburton Dick until he retired which I think would have been in the 1930s. The photo at the start of your film would have been before he started. I’d be grateful if you or anyone else has any pics of the engine showing the driver. Where there ever any tank engines run on the line do you know? Regards

So I've grown up in the Kirkburton area and I first found out about the train line quite a few years ago but didn't look into it that much. Is that bricked up tunnel at 6:00 in the video, an actual train tunnel or was it used for a coal deposit? I've heard both from different people and I've tried to look online but couldn't find a definite answer

Big shame it is not a footpath or cycle path and then it would be of more benefit to people Loved your pins on the 3D view style of presentation. 😁
