This song is hardcore real. This isn't NSP's normal sound, but I think it's something Danny HAD to write. If you follow Danny on Grumps, or even have listened to any of the plentiful "best of" compilations, you know that Danny had a tough time getting into the music business, but he tried his best always until it finally worked out for him. This is more real than it is funny or satirical. There are humorous elements, but this is Danny looking back at his past and being thankful he made it. I'm sure there were tough patches out there for him, like there are for all of us. Dan Avidan is the prime example of someone who never gave up on his dreams and carved a path doing what he fucking loved, even in the worst of times. This song is actually fucking inspiring to the point where I'm tearing up thinking back to it. We've all been in young Danny's shoes, and some of us are still fighting the fight to make it to where we can be a rockstar. Fighting through the worst shit life has to throw at us. But Danny's living proof that if we work hard and never stop doing what we love, we'll get there. This song actually touched me, not in the normal NSP NSFW way, but in a way that hits me right in the emotions. It also shows Danny is fucking balling at writing more serious songs. I don't want NSP to go anywhere, but this song is proof that if NSP ever branched into more serious material, they would have talent to do so.

45 year old therapist here. I'm a powerlifter, I do MMA cage fighting with weapons as a hobby and teach martial arts, I have 3 goruck toughs under my belt, I volunteer as a SAR responder for the local sherrif's department, and I earned a bachelor's and Master's Degree in Psychology while working as a single dad and struggling with ADHD. I'm a certified badass. I showed this to a client of mine who needed to see it, and it really helped her. After she left, I went back into my office and broke down and cried because of how hard it hit for me. I wasn't diagnosed with ADHD until I was in my 20's. I was always the weird kid who was constantly underachieving. I didn't truly start to come into my own until 29. It made me hard as fuck on the inside. Such a great song. I wish I could play it for my 12 year old self. If you're here, and you're struggling, from one badass to another, I hope you take the song to heart. Find your tribe. Ask for help if you need to. Trust that someday, you'll step into your own power, whatever that means for you. If it's MMA, or being a spandex butterfly, just understand that OWNING who you are is the most badass thing you can ever do.

The line about the birthday invitations actually had me break down crying when I first heard it. When I turned 13, I told my mom I outgrew birthday parties. In reality, I was just terrified that no one from school would come if I invited them. Everyone has that wish at least once in their life, to go back in time and change something they were unhappy about. But to go back to give that sad little girl a hug, and tell her that everything will be ok, that it's ok to let it out and cry. Sometimes I wish it was possible, but the best we can do now is help others that are facing the same struggles and know that seeking out help when you need it isn't a sign of weakness, but strength.

There are so many amazing and powerful lines in one silly-on-the-surface song. That's what makes this such a sincerely great song. But there are a dozen other lines in this one song that other people feel the same way about: - 1:35 "Send Birthday invites and now all your friend is here" - 1:50 "You're just going through an awkward phase from 12 to 29" - 2:37 "No one cares that your 35" - 2:48 "You're still a nerdy kid inside, but now you finally found your tribe" - 3:55 "Now it's time to rock the show, come on, you are a star tonight" I mean come on, I can't think of many songs that speak to the listener in so many lines. I could quote more, but then I'd just be posting essentially all the lyrics... Danny says it best "... don't you know that you kick so much ass on the inside?"
