Very helpful. Would you load an Under and Over shotgun the same way ? I have seen some home made speed loader clips that hold the two shells, you could try those out for us to watch ?

Stoeger 12 gauge Coach Gun basic model with extractors (ejectors not allowed). You can slick up yourself or get a CAS gunsmith to do it: polishing chambers, polishing action and extractor, lightening up springs, curving lever, bending triggers. Polishing chambers is mandatory. CZ and Pendersoli makes a nice hammered sxs and also hammerless...but Stoeger Coach is the most popluar and the cheapest by at least half. Some modify Ithaca SKBs 100s and Browning BSSs.

For the chamber honing, I just used a 12ga mop dressed with some Flitz and gave the chamber a nice polish. Same for the sharp chamber edges, but with a conical dressing bit with a bit of Flitz.

Yes, the shell goes into the barrel the same. The difference is that you need to pull the ears back on one with exposed hammers.

I have a question and I do not mean to be rude or negative, but I have been wondering about it.. Cowboy action shooters talk about how "Period Correct" the guns and costumes are supposed to be. So my question is why are the front ammo pouches allowed? Like how you store the shotgun shells front and center of your gun belt. I have never seen that in any historical photos, or anywhere else other than cowboy action shooting. I have seen the bandoleers being used for ammo throughout history, but are these designs used by cowboy action shooters just overlooked because it is faster and more convenient for them to shoot? I welcome replies, but please be nice as I am just curious about this. I have been watching these videos because I am interested in getting into the sport.

Why? Because it's still speed shooting. They're still leather and metal, they could've and would've made things just like that if action shooting was a sport in the 1800s. It's less historical accuracy and more historical plausibility.

What barrel length is preferred for Cowboy action side by sides?

deerskindiver To my understanding, there are different styles of shooting (like "Outlaw", "Duelist", and "Gunfighter"). Folks that shoot Outlaw shoot from the hip, so they use longer barrels to get a better idea of where they're aiming. Any other style would probably use a shorter length barrel to reduce the time it takes to line up the shot, as every second counts. And for the record, each style has separate matches. Gunfighters are on the clock against other Gunfighters, and Outlaws other Outlaws. There's no definitively superior style, just your preference.
