The Xplorer train you were on was a 5 car set (3 cars+2 cars), the Armidale Xplorer consists of Car A (first class), Car B (Economy) and Car D (Economy) and the Moree Xplorer consists of Car E (first class) and Car F (Economy)

Nicely done clip. Couple of minor technical things. Unless they've changed fairly recently the hot meals aren't microwaved, they're heated; which is why there'e about an hour between ordering and getting them. Also every carriage on the XPL has its own engine, so the sound level would be about the same in all. One time I travelled to Armidale there was a blind person with a dog on the train. I was very impressed at how the crew looked after them; even having toilet trays or a grassed area (with 'privacy') set up for the dog at each stop for when it needed to go.

Yeah - I think they use a convection oven.

"Also every carriage on the XPL has its own engine, so the sound level would be about the same in all. " Yeah great idea. Spread the misery.

Nice video, saw your post on one of the FB groups, minor correction, all of the Xplorer carriages are power cars including the EB intermediate carriages, i.e. each carriage would have an engine. Yes I do agree first class is only slightly better, also with better recline (especially great if no one is sitting behind you) and usually with less crying babies. I went on it a few years ago and there’s sometimes a bit of squeakiness coming from between the carriages (not sure what it’s called exactly), quite horrible on some of the sets, it just kept on squeaking the whole way.

A DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) train like the Xplorer means that there is a engine in every car

Thanks for the video! How was 4G/5G phone reception? Many dead spots?

Not as bad as it is on the XPT, but it wasn’t great either. Quite a few dead spots.

4 hours with someone sitting next to you is easy. Try doing it on the 2 overnight trains back to back for about 10 hours (Mel - Syd) and then 14 hours (Syd - Bris) Nice video btw.

There's auxillary and drive motors on each carriage of the Xplorer cars. The drive motors are the noisy ones and they sit towards the rear bogey of each car (or known as the A1 end - or more simply the end with the higher seat numbers). If you're up the other end of the car the trip is fairly silent, quite noisy up the drive end. It's one of the worst features of the Xplorer/Endeavour sets. One other note on first class v economy. Quite often the train is frequented by some less than appealing clientele. Its always worth paying the extra to get the bigger seat and an guarantee that itl be a quiet and hassle free trip. The last time I caught the train Newcastle to Kootingal and back on consecutive days. The staff mentioned unruly and drunk economy passengers on the way up and the police boarded and removed 4 people at Quirindi on the way back.

Thanks for the info. In my Dubbo video there's a pretty good comparison between the clientele found in First v/s Economy...

I thought those trains don't stop at newcastle?
@ZacharyT94 Жыл бұрын
They don’t stop at the interchange but Broadmeadow is part of the Newcastle area. Broadmeadow is right before the Y junction (heading from Central coast) where trains either turn right to head towards the Newcastle interchange at Wickham or they turn off left to continue on the Hunter line to head on the North Coast line towards Brisbane or head on the North West Line towards Armidale and Moree
