It's funny, me and the boys use to clown these guys in the late 90's/2000's. But in hindsight, these guys were INCREDIBLY talented. They sang great, danced great, and did both at the same time without breaking a sweat. Nsync is one of the best harmony groups of all time. Really great stuff.

Joey's part is basically a mixture of Justin & JC's harmony. Since Joey is a baritone, his voice's job is pretty much just to fill in. It's like everyone's voice is like a puzzle section to the main picture, & Joey's voice is all of the corner & sky pieces. With all of the main pieces, you already know what the image is, but you still add the sky & corner pieces to complete it so it can look perfect. I should know. I'm a baritone, & we're almost always in the shadows of the tenors, lol.

for the people who can't hear the lower two parts: -lower notes are generally harder to hear than higher -in joey's case, his part mostly adds "color" to the harmony (so does JC's fyi); ie: pedal tones and added seconds. just know that those types of musical devices make harmonies more interesting to listen to. -lance's part is what gives fullness to the sound but not as easy to hear note by note because it's the lowest.

This is why I love N'sync, and in my opinion, one of the best boy bands to date. Their harmonies were incredible. Even though Justin and JC would usually get the solo parts, each member still played an integral role to each of their songs

So, I noticed someone calling Justin a baritone and I just wanted to clear up that he is definitely not a baritone lol. Chris is a countertenor, which means he has the highest singing voice, Justin is a tenor, JC is a spinto tenor although it's said that he has a 4 octave range, Joey is a baritone, and Lance is the bass.

But I think Joey was trained as a Tenor because he seems more comfy supporting high notes than JT but he sings baritone in *NSYNC because the other guys couldn’t? Not sure I’ve listened to a lot of his live performances and such and he’s really good and has a great range.

Justin at his peak NSYNC had basically the top voice in the industry in terms of vibrato technique, falsetto...etc.....THAT BEING SAID JC had and has and always will have a much smoother voice than Justin and much more enjoyable to me. Justin kills it with his perfect vibrato. JC does with his silky smooth tone. Thats why the 2 together were incredble. Imagine an alternqte reality were JC qnd Justin have a duet career....thats a dream worth dreaming.

Joeys voice is pretty much a bridge connecting chris’s high pitch too Lances low deep pitch , pretty much the life of a baritone , blend every one’s voices together and get overshadowed. Which if you didn’t know baritone is the most common vocal range for male singers

Actually Joey usually did the hardest part of the harmonies. It´s a kind of "choir voice" to be completed in the harmony. For example, search on youtube for "Nsync Celebration". You´ll catach Joey as solist and Justin doing the 4th part of the harmony. You´ll hear that happens the same.

I think this may have come from when they recorded Trashing the Camp with Phil Collins for the Tarzan soundtrack for Disney because if you look at the music video they did for it, it looks like the exact same studio and they're wearing the same outfits as well.

oh! cool observation. and i love that joey got to sing a lot during the beatle and temptation medlies on the celebrity tour. you know, the range of his voice was a good fit for the parts that justin or jc sang (for ANY of their songs), but he was never given the chance. i wonder why? then again, he was perfectly content with his role in the group.

Yes, JC or JT could do Joey´s line. Joey is not a baritone, even tough he sang baritone lines on the group. There´s a lot of songs with JC/JT performing baritone lines too. I´m a 2nd tenor (as JT), and i just sang Chris line without falsetto. This is headvoice. And a tenor can sing bass, using a tech. called fry (sure, dosen´t sound goods as a bass, but the throat dosen´t hurt) greetings.

well in this case there's more than one baritone because it involves a quintet. so joey and justin are both actually the baritones not to mention from both a choir and and vocal solo aspect. by the way i said second to lowest because i was referring to men and women. so instead of saying baritone or first bass or first alto or even in some cases mezzo, i decided to go with second to lowest voice. i hope that cleared things up.

@TheJaredThingy The other names like liggero, spinto, dramatico, etc are used only in classical music or opera. In popular music we just call it tenor, and 2nd or 1st tenor on choir lines. JC´s voice is not that higher than Justin´s or Joey´s. He use (used) to have more mixvoice/headvoice training, then he could hit higher notes. But i believe he could be a spinto or something if he have some opera training. He got skills, but unfortunely is not using.
