Situat pe „Drumul Mătăsii”, centrul istoric din Shakhrisabz, având o vechime de peste două milenii (inclus patrimoniului cultural UNESCO), este plin cu tot felul de palate, așa-numitele memoriale, monumente...
Amintesc „Moscheea-catedrală”, ridicată în 1435, pe fundațiile unei clădiri anterioare /cu aspect similar/, situată pe aceeași axă cu Mausoleul „Kulyala” /construit, în 1437, din ordinul lui Mirzo Ulugbek (1394-1449)/nepotul lui Tamerlan/, mormântul, împreună cu alte clădiri, formează complexul arhitectural „Darut-Tilavat”; din Palatul „Ak-Sarai”, au rămas ruinele unui portal grandios (care fusese acoperit de imagini heraldice, în mozaic, cu un leu și cu Soarele, precum și cu semnul lui Amir Temur - sub formă de trei inele)...
Împărtășiți opinia potrivit căreia orașele devin celebre datorită locuitorilor lor celebri? Shakhrisabz și-a câștigat faima și a câștigat în semnificație nu atât pentru că invocă rolul de capitală a statului antic Sughd; cele mai multe dintre reperele istorice importante se datorează vieții lui Timur Lenk; acesta și-a construit palatul de vară și mausoleul (în termeni preciși, a făcut din acest orășel reședința sa regală)...
