In this video I again protect tools that didnt age the way they deserved. This time I restore an old and huge german goliath vise. The antique tool is a Goliath 150 and was preowned by a hobby blacksmith.
I got it for 20€ on eBay. I need the vise restoration for future projects.
Mid restoration I realized, that the vise was never the very best quality, the cast was very inaccurat and it probably wasnt post-processed after casting.
Thats why I decided, that I have to make this vise extra special. It needed as much attention as possible. The whole process took me a approx. a week. But I had to wait for some parts for much more time.
So I'm happy the project is done and the video is ready. I hope you enjoy my content.
Please subscribe, if you want to see my future work.

Beauty color. It's like restoring a vise is the rite of passage for the KZbin restorer. :)

A beautiful finished item. I have restored many engineers vices over the years, but never to this standard. Unless, like yours, the tool is to be used as a display item I have never seen the need to remove casting marks, use filler to get a really smooth finish or polish any parts. It is a working tool and these usually lead a hard life and receive quite a battering over the years. I usually clean off the rust, make sure that the sliding parts are in good condition and then slap on a coat of Hammerite paint to finish. I mostly use a Record No.2 vice that I bought second-hand and restored 55 years ago and it still serves me well.

As I mention in the video, there is totally no need to do this kind of finish. But if I want to highlight the design from this era without compromising on function.. I think its a legit approach :) Thank you for your kind comment

The restorations channel is focusing on perfection, this is for entertainment and standard on KZbin is increasing day by day... everything’s started with my mechanics, mr patina and other crazy perfectionist... and this channel is at this level... and it works because quality over quantity is the mission!

Sehr sehr geil...

@@NTRprojects I'm working on restoring an '81 Honda CX500C motorcycle. The idea you gave me was for painting the plastic pieces on the bike but also not being afraid the be rough with it and alter it if it's gonna look better. Like you did when you filed down the sides of the clamps to make them even.

You do beautiful work hands down I've never seen a vice that I could see my face in it But when you think about it real hard nobody would want to see my ugly face in there Vice unless I owed them money. I just finished my vice I'm waiting for the paint to dry it don't look anything like yours But it works it's clean and I'm going to take care of it and I believe it will last me the rest of my lifetime . Number to Vice made in England. I never really understood why people would take time to do this until mine recently broke and I started searching for a new old Vice and the prices were ridiculous so I decided to fix the one I had . 👊👍👍👍👍☝️
