my favorite part is Bruce Landsbberg is worried about pilfering or the theft of the alcohol at a yard somewhere would have even the slightest effect on the derailment? Yea some fellers got a couple gallons out of the tank, therefor that caused the derailment 60 miles away.

Notice how the throttle was idle. I wonder whether these trains woukd be aided by having a balance between pushing and pulling, even if the loads may vary?

As an experience engineer... that basically wastes fuel and does nothing more. Worse, I would probably increase your speed. Then you would break a rule by having power on, while using air brakes to maintain speed, which increases chances of derailment plus prematurely wears out the brakes on the cars. It is know as "stretch breaking". It is a big violation of the operating rules.
