NU SHOOZ Reaction
EARLY HIP HOP Reaction
80s Music Reaction
Empress Reaction
"I Can't Wait" is a song recorded by American group Nu Shooz from the 1986 album Poolside. The song was originally recorded in late 1984 and was featured on the band's second album Tha's Right the following year. Credits on the back of the single indicate that the Poolside LP was originally to be called The Point of No Return. The song was remixed by the Dutch DJ and producer Peter Slaghuis. This remixed version is the one that appears on Poolside.
In the United States, the song reached No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart in late March 1986, remaining atop the chart for two weeks. Soon afterwards, the song appeared on the Hot 100 chart, where it climbed to No. 3 in mid-June of that year, and remained in the top 40 for 15 weeks and it reached #2 on the R&B/Soul singles chart. In the United Kingdom, the song reached No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart. The single returned to the U.S. charts in 2015, where it peaked at number 17 on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Digital Songs chart.[3]
The song's American chart run coincided with that of a Stevie Nicks song also titled "I Can't Wait".

Yes! This song was played 24/7 and I couldn't get enough of it. The group has three other chart toppers: Point Of No Return, Should I Say Yes, and Are You Looking For Somebody New. They're a band from Portland Oregon. Their time on the music scene was short but man these songs they released kept me jamming in my youth. Vanessa Williams sampled this song for her song "Happiness". Try Tara Kemp "Hold You Tight" from 1990 during the RnB/swing sound that was hitting radio. I guarantee you will enjoy.

Empress - it's unfortunate but any artist will become extinct if they don't adapt to an ever-changing music scene. They kept to their roots which was actually adult contemporary/pop/modern day jazz, Kenny G style. They tried to comeback several years later but it didn't spark.

Loved it then, love it now. This funky little band was out of Seattle. Another of my blue eyed soul faves back then was Teena Marie doing "Behind The Groove" and "I Need Your Lovin' ", Tara Kemp doing "Hold You Tight", and Ta Mara and the Seen (a Minnesota/Prince bunch) doing "Affection". You list is getting looooooooooooooonger.

Hel Gar - Ta Mara and The Seen. I was trying to think of their name while watching this video. Their song Everybody Dance was the jam. Prince's bunch: Vanity 6, The Time, Wendy and Lisa, Apollonia, Sheila E all had their time in the spotlight. Even Sheena Easton had her moment with the duet with Prince "U Got The Look". What a song.

We need to give props to the Netherlands for this!!!! It was first released in 1985, but did not do much. Then is got send to the Netherlands as an import song and this Dutch DJ mixed it,.. and it was send back to New York as an import again. Then it blew up. You can all read it in this link we’re Nu Shooz is talking about that. www.popmatters.com/nu-shooz-2020-interview-2646166389.html?rebelltitem=2#rebelltitem2 . So proud of that. Because,... you guessed it,.. I am Dutch . Keep doing the songs you do Miss Empress. You pick the cool rare stuff that nobody reviews. LOVE IT. Here is a Dutch gem that NOBODY has ever reviewed. We had a kid do a dance to this song in the 80s in my super conservative highschool in Virginia. When aids had killed Rock Hudson but before magic Johnson lifted the stigma. Homophobia was on ten. This young gay man danced so amazing and awesome to this song. A song we didn't have on airplay. He danced you know those super conservative beat up the gay boy people were clapping and cheering. They spoke homosexual slurs with glowing respect. It was surreal. This song is powerful. I remember thinking wow that kid is brave. But he knew he could dance. Like Janet Jackson would have hired him on the spot. But I was amazed he bridged cultural chasms with this song.

I think you were born in the wrong decade! Lol! Okay, learning what you like, here are my recommendations: Nu Shoot follow up song "point of no Return". Some other strong female 80s sounds: Bananarama was really good at harmonies. Their two best (in my opinion) "Cruel Summer", and "Venus". And then the group Culture Club added an AMAZING back vocalist, Helen Terry for their song "Church of the Poison Mind". Then there is Alison Moyet's 80s songs "Invisible " and "Love Resurrection". And of course I will continue to recommend ONJ's "The Rumour" (even though I know you're thinking of doing her music chronologically). Keep having fun! :)

I already saw someone writing about the Dutch Remix...(Yeah I'm Dutch too. :-) ) Now the one you playing is the Dutch Mix/Dutch Remix... The original version wasn't a big succes.... but Dutch Mixmaster/remix legend 'Peter Slaghuis' was asked to do a remix...and thats the one you are playing now and this version became a big hit... It sold more than a million copies...and guess what: Peter Slaghuis only asked 500 dutch guldens for it (around 250 dollar). And they call it the "Dutch Mix", they should have given him more credits for it... Now here's the saddest part... Peter Slaghuis passed away in 1991 in a car accident... He is a legend and did a lot of megamixes/remixes/productions etc...May he rest in Peace

This song is definitely a jam. It was released in 1985. The song was actually written by Valerie's husband, John who was also in the band as the guitarist. And if I remember correctly, from what I've read, Valerie and John, along with Rick Waritz, produced the music for it themselves. They didn't use any samples, but _it_ has definitely been sampled, by others, many times.

This holds the distinction of being the most Sampled Song in Music next to "I Can't Go For That By Hall & Oates". It was a Hit on The Pop, R & B Chart and it went to Number One on The Dance Chart. They did American Bandstand, Solid Gold and were one of the very few White Acts to do Soul Train. Even when I go to an Old School Party and I hear the Bass, people scream and run to the Floor.

I think "Genius of Love" by The Tom Tom Club has been sampled a lot more.

So glad you reacted to this one and Empress, what a great track from Nu Shooz. Love it, so catchy! Would love to hear you react to Go west - "Call Me " and "We Close Our Eyes." Absolute top shelf 80s tracks. Def in my favorites of all time. 😁👍

Funny thing is this was not a hit ..... The original version didn't get any traction as so many of the memorable elements were missing. It was send to Europe were a Dutch producer remade it, and then it finally took off.

Hi Empress! If you liked this song, you will probably like Don't Wanna Fall in Love by Jane Child. She's a white girl from Canada, but she had a really interesting look, and this song was a banger in it's day. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIjHkJKtarqKjMU

Anyone doing honest reactions would never know when not to stop a track and they really have to do it to break up the track for YT. Not rewinding back 15 secs after stopping is the rookie move.

All the new kids coming up should be thankful for the old school music that has been around if it weren’t for the old school there wouldn’t be all these imitators copying rhythms and lyrics from the old school this new generation is TRASH
