Nu Shooz was completely underrated as an smooth (but pumping it up when necessary) R&B band of the 1980's. And, that's even though they did write, and perform smooth tasteful R&B as well (if not better) than anyone else was doing at that particular time. Maybe it (Nu Shooz) was too far ahead of its time, because it's clear that the music still holds up extreme well even today. Nu Shooz never failed to "deliver the goods". I do love me some Valerie Day!!!

This song has that classic Shep Pettibone sound with that stabby bass and Roland drum goodness. I remember at the time thinking the video had a lot in common with INXS "Need You Tonight".

Great song John, and great memories. I saw you and Nat perform in Salem at Willamette University. Really great show that night, and still ingrained in my memory like it was yesterday. I still listen to any Shooz vinyl on a regular basis. Oregon bands are the real deal!!!

I love this song; especially the awesome keyboard bass!!! The overall arrangement is mellow, but decidedly funky! Great hook, nice groove; I still love listening to this, it's just timeless. One of the songs that made me want to do electronic music in the first place. NICE!!!!
@malcocreative10 жыл бұрын
The bass-line is the work of Jeff Lorber, who produced Nu Shooz from 1986-92.
@nemisysone10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info! I just love that "rubber/plucky" style bass. It just floored me the first time I heard it. First thing I did after was to try and copy playing it by ear...I could never do it with that much skill, though, and it never sounded as good as that! : )
@malcocreative9 жыл бұрын
nemisysone If you're interested, Lorber had a cool trick for bass. He would put the minimoog through a "Bass Rockman" to give it a little more grit and definition on the top end. For what it's worth- JRS
@nemisysone9 жыл бұрын
Nice tip! I have been looking for a way to replicate his "rubber band" bass patch for years! I'll try to see if I can simulate that using a DAW. Maybe running the bass through distortion filters or something. Thank you so much for the info; I would have never thought to do that!!! : D
@malcocreative9 жыл бұрын
nemisysone I'd copy it over to a separate track and then do that, so you have discrete control over the balance of the two. JRS
