I teach political science. If people were conscious and accepting of nuance, there may not be so much extremism as we have been witnessing over the years. There's more infighting within political parties over which faction of their elected group will have dominant influence. I had to take a public finance course as part of my degree program. After reading several chapters, I went to my professor and said that most of the cases were not adequately substantiated with facts. He responded that facts don't matter. It's about how many minds you can get on your side of the contest. I always tell my students to challenge what they think they know because I want them to exert greater control over their own decisions. My job as a professor is to give my students the best and most current information I have. Then, I walk away from it knowing I did my job and it's up to them to do with it whatever they wish. I am not under the misapprehension that I can really change anyone. People will only change if they see the change as the next step in their own evolution. I really appreciate your forthright views, and the time has come for content such as yours to have a greater presence in the public discourse. 👏

As always your human observations are correct and all to common about interaction with others nearly ALL THE TIME! One just has to carefully pick and choose among those with whom we interact..

Well said, while I am guilty of an initial snap decision or taking something at face value. I do strive to remind myself to keep an open mind and hear other perspectives. A comment I strive to remember, "Just because you're right. Doesn't make me wrong."

Tbh dreading the holidays for this reason (I'm from the US and not happy the recent political events) but I've been thinking of escape routes and also making the rule of no politics talk at the dinner table. I have no battle plans as I will be completely outnumbered.
