Nubé Winter Barrier: How to Set Up

The Nubé Winter Barrier (sierramadreres...) is designed as an add-on layer of protection for the Nubé when used in the colder months of the year. The Winter Barrier attaches to the exterior of your Nubé mosquito netting and seals out the bitter cold wind, thus reducing convection heat loss from your body. The Winter Barrier attaches with existing clips on the Nubé and seals snugly around your mosquito netting with it's integrated synch systems. The Winter Barrier does not prevent the use of the Gear Storage area on the Nubé. It is constructed out of a breathable nylon ripstop in order to reduce condensation build up in the system and also has breather ports built in reducing condensation further. A great addition to the Nubé system. I'm from the thuringian forests in germany and here it gets pretty cold in winter time. With my actual DD Hammock I nearly froze to death this winter...

It looks like when it rains that it would get your hammock rain for rain entering from the side of the shelter. Is this the case?

Hi Mark! It does not. It is not a thermal insulator. It is a lightweight, wind chill breaker. It is meant to keep the wind and chilli air off your body while containing more of your own body heat that would otherwise be swept away by airflow. As with any 4 season tent, you will still need a proper sleeping bag/close to body insulation according to the intensity of the cold.

I never got my hands on one .. so can't really say the concept looks good .. I ended up with just nano 7 and cuben tarp from zpack ... which work out perfect .. But do like the ground setup thats smr hammock can do .. that way i can replace the tent and bivy i still bring for backpacking trips

Why would you develop this to hang from the mosquito net? You don't need that in winter.

Hey Jason! This is out Nubé design where the system is all one piece. The winter barrier is designed to connect to the Fly rather than the Shield per say. It also is to add 10 degrees and prevent wind rather than being purely for winter. So there have been many instances that customers have enjoyed having the Shield still, with their winter barrier. We have our Inferno Underquilt (sierramadreresearch.com/products/inferno-system-tq-uq) that covers your hammock to provide the most warmth, and our Stratos (sierramadreresearch.com/collections/stratos) which will have the shield and fly separate so that you may removed your Shield when you don't need it!
