A little over 2 years ago, we embarked on a wild journey with goats for the purpose of using their milk. I grew up with the mentality that goat's milk was disgusting. Our first goats were Nigerian Dwarves and we were thrilled at how sweet, creamy, and delicious their milk was!!! Thus, we started to grow our little dairy herd!
With two members of our family having dairy intolerances, we were beyond relieved to be able to have goat milk! It completely changed the game for cold cereal, baking, as well as homemade lattes....yum!

Those babies are so stinkin" cute! I have heard that Toggenberg goats will produce sweeter tasting milk if they are given B12 injections. Can't remember why they don't have enough??? Also putting cobalt salt out for your goats will help improve the flavour of their milk.

❤Watching again. OMG I love the Taxidermy collection in your home. I know some people have different views, but again from living in the north country, hunting season vital to the health cycle of the wildlife circle of life. My sister -in-law lives on Lac Megantic, Quebec. Not far from where we lived just over the border. We displayed many things on our wall as well. I retired n moved to Southwest Florida, so when I see video's n pictures of beautiful north country , I do miss it. ❤

👏👏👏 I was wondering if someone was going to comment on them haha! I'm glad it was from someone who understands! We are both responsible and respectful hunters, with an intense love for wildlife and the outdoors. Definitely blessed to live in the north for those benefits!

I dont think you were being cruel to the goats at all. You were just looking out for them and not letting them escape. Very informative video. I want to keep goats now lol maybe one day when I retire 😊❤

This was a cool lesson. I never delt with goats, or the milking process, so I learned some great stuff. Love that you emphasize the cleanliness, and how things affect the flavor. Makes sense to me. Also, never would've thought of using the dry erase markers on my glass jars. Thanks for that tip!

So glad you were able to learn a few things! As I continue to learn, I like to think that things get 'cleaner'. When I first started I knew nothing!!! So glad to finally have some experience under my belt, and great tips from others as well. I can't remember where I saw the dry erase marker trick, but it has worked perfectly!

I'm so glad you learned something! It has had it's challenges, I won't lie! But I've become a lot more confident.

I’m an old farmer retired now from farming. When I had goats I would milk them 2 times a day. Doing everything right to keep everything sanitized. The milk still had a little strong flavor.. I learned to wash under the tails of my milk goats at least once a month there’s like a pocket that the does have like a sent gland once I washed the area out the taste of the milk was good. I did not keep a Billy goat so the flavor was from the nanny. I raise alpine and saunas goats.

That is an interesting thought! There are definitely other factors to consider if the milk is still strong after doing all the 'right' things. I'm glad that worked for you! It makes sense!

Question for you: so after you put it in the freezer, are you waiting for the milk to actually be frozen solid before you remove it from the freezer or how do you know when to remove it from the freezer?

I forgot to add this! I'm waiting for it to chill down to at least 4°C. A better method is to circulate ice cold water around the milk jar to cool it even faster than cold air. The goal is to drop the temp of the milk down to less than 4°C in 30-60 minutes.

So the ND being your favourite milk for taste, why the Nubians? Are they higher yield and easier to milk?

How much milk gave first goats?
@Liltroyerfarm
@Liltroyerfarm 7 ай бұрын
That's a hard question to answer. It completely depends on the breed of the goat, how many babies they have, and when you start milking them or if you allow the dam to raise her own babies.
