years ago i was working as a shipwright and marine mechanic and was not really into dumpster-diving, but i was amazed at some of the stuff that i happened to find in and around the dumpsters at the marinas that i worked where wealthy people kept their yachts. when used yachts change ownership most of the time the new owners will remove anything left behind by the old owners and toss all of it in the dumpsters, i've found everything from power tools to tv sets to fishing gear to sewing machines to outboard motors etc. etc. etc. that was all perfectly good, working stuff that was just thrown away. it showed me that the wealthy care so little about the poor that they would rather have their discarded stuff end up in a landfill rather than take the trouble to donate it to people who could benefit from it. that's the world we live in, you are not good enough to deserve a rich man's garbage......
@moniquevandeplas52102 жыл бұрын
as a person who has been around a lot of throw aways I know that different people have different reasons for throwing stuff away. Maybe all those people thought like you said but it's also possible they did not want to go through the hassle of dealing with tons of questions....and organizing pick ups etc. The one thing that does get to me is even if they don't want people collecting it why they could not donate it but then again as someone who has seen how fussy some thrift stores can get due to be overwhelmed maybe they threw stuff out hoping someone would collect it. So my question is did you end up taking any of the stuff and if so, what did you end up doing with it?

1) Teamwork makes the dream work!! 2) The smile on Sammie's face when she burned the lurker was PERFECTION :) 3) Among the more offensive things my father said to me a few years ago when I had the sense to pick a massive warehouse he was just gonna pay to have emptied and sent to the landfill, was: "I didn't raise you in the spirit of poverty. Why are you taking home trash?" WHAT? What is impoverished about taking home truckloads of brand new padded envelopes, boxes, tissue paper, unused industrial coffee pots, roll after roll of packing tape, reams of unused printer paper, the industrial shelving I use for my inventory, a bunch of dead computers my kid rebuilt, a dozen monitors... That's just effing smart. I almost NEVER pay for shipping materials. My kids understand the joy of taking something someone else left behind and turning it into something useful and/or beautiful. And making money on something I got for free and kept out of the landfill is a win Win WIN. What's impoverished is looking at everything as potential trash instead of potential treasure; putting a bike with a flat tire or rusty chain in the trash instead of fixing it; thinking that out of sight out of mind for you isn't a burden for someone else. The work you do allows you two to spend time together that most never get, gives you excitement when you hit a score, and helps the community and the earth. Real riches have nothing to do with a fat bank account. And you know that lady was like, that girl is strong and gorgeous I straight up hate her (HA!). Love you guys so much!! Big hugs

Pro picker tip: for the dresser you didn’t have room for, since you had the trailer on, take a couple or all of drawers. That way no one will take it with the drawers gone. Did that with a recliner once. Was packed down with bo room left but fit the back of the recliner in went back for the large bottom rocker later 😂
