Watch the nuclear powered attack submarine HMS Triumph outbound from Devonport Naval base in Plymouth. HMS Triumph (S93) is the last of the Trafalgar-class nuclear hunter-killer submarines in service with the Royal Navy and is due to retire soon.
The boat has since returned during routine manoeuvres.

I find it amazing how HMS Triumph took 4 years to build and yet the Astute class takes 10-11 years to build and were told that the Cold War is back on! Well we are doomed 6-7 SSN’s is just not enough!
@neilsbs8273
@neilsbs8273 Ай бұрын
The Astute are next level, imagine Triumph as a 3rd / 4th gen sub against the Astute which is 5th / 6th gen. When you look at the timelines for each of them they vary greatly from 8 years to 11 years, this could also be down to problems at build, supply chain, anything really. The initial build was also a major issue as the last subs built by VSEL in Barrow were the Vanguard so they had lost all of the skills needed with a much reduced workforce, if you believe wiki they went from 13000 staff down to 3000 during the interim period of the subs.

Yep. We should build a final three "Astute+" units AFTER "Agincourt" as transitions to the projected next gen. UK/Australian AUKUS SSNs. and up our SSN fleet to 10 units for the remainder of the Astutes' lifespans AND over their successors' tenure as well.

@@neilsbs8273 Yep, almost down to 3,000 full time employees and with predictable consequences for the essential skills base and the Astutes build prog with the first three boats coming in at nudging 60% over-budget, years late and needing an immense amount of de-bugging post-commissioning. Something better avoided again, wrt AUKUS when it AND much needed increase of the SSN fleet to 10 units could be put in train in tandem via +3 "Astute+" units being built after "Agincourt".

Your point is well made, although Triumph took 6 1/2 years to build, not 4 (Dreadnought took 4 :) ). That said, 6 1/2 years for Triumph included going on sea trials, returning, and being commissioned into the Navy. After 11 years, the Astutes are still to go on sea trials and be accepted. T boats were easily the best cold war SSN, and for me Triumph was the best of the T boats

That would have the connection for the towed array sonar, which will be 'clipped on' by a speciast vessel once she gets into open water outside of the breakwater.

She's the last of the old Trafalgar Class SSNs, I think; "HMS Triumph"?? Fine Hunter Killers and still better than most other navies' current latest models today!... er? ... and it's in the vid's title so I look like a total idiot! 😜🤪😝 Though in fact I worked on two subs (the T2400 SSK, HMS Upholder and the 1st of class SSBN, HMS Vanguard) being built at the same time at the same yard.

@Ian-xq4rt
@Ian-xq4rt Ай бұрын
Don't believe any British sub have windows, some other countries have a window (because where they go, it's too cold to stand outside for too long). Most subs don't due to the weakness it introduces (and lack of stealth skin)
