Last 6 out of 7 Sarmat tests failed miserably . Membership of NATO could cause article 5 to be triggered in defence of Ukraine, but it's not mandatory for members to participate. Germany would be reluctant now as it has dawned on them that without cheap oil and gas it can't compete. The Baltic countries are risking suicide, because they are small countries and if Russia is over whelmed by NATO which I doubt ( they couldn't defeat the Taliban) Russia could have no alternative but to resort to nuclear weapons, although they do have powerful non nuclear weapons. If article 5 is triggered a lot of damage is going to be caused by Russia to the countries with the loudest mouths

I do not think nato intends or wishes to put nato troops into the war. I do not think they rule it out but no good strategist would. Preparedness is a key to survival or not in many cases in history.
