Information for those who want to know what's going on in this video. From April to June 1952, the United States conducted eight nuclear test explosions, collectively known as Operation Tumbler Snapper. The fourth explosion took place on May 1, 1952 at the Nevada test site and was codenamed "Dog". Several hundred marines were sent to the test site - before the explosion they were placed in special trenches 3660 meters from the epicenter. A 19 kiloton bomb was dropped from an aircraft and exploded at an altitude of 316 meters. A minute earlier, the Marines had been ordered to take cover and close their eyes tightly. After the passage of the shock wave, the soldiers were lifted out of the trenches and sent in battle formation to the epicenter of the explosion. The Marines walked 460 meters, after which they were withdrawn from the radioactive zone. Formally, only a few received a dose of radiation exceeding that established by the leaders of the experiment.

damn, the story behind this one is pretty sad. Mike's grandfather inspired the song because of the stories he heard, he seemed like a completely diffrent guy before ww1, but changed during the war. so it makes me a bit sad, expecially "...I'm breaking up inside A heart of broken glass Defiled Deep inside The abandoned child" because nobody expects the things that happend in war, you go as a scared lost "child" but come back as a husk of what they used to be. Being so desentized to everything that you don't really show emotions anymore, because all you can think about is that time you stabbed hans in the liver and left him to bleed out. mabye im reading a bit too much into things, but the song truely is inspired by his grandfather who changed a lot during the war.

And nowadays this sort of thing is public knowledge so anyone can look it up themselves. I've also personally met sons and grandsons of the men who were used in nuclear tesing. A fair amount of the fathers/grandfathers died of cancer.

After the fall of URSS, in 1994 the Us government recognized the "atomic veteran", and conducted formal investigation of the radiation exposure these veterans received, as well as radiation experiments conducted on humans. The remaining atomic veterans may receive special priority enrollment for health care service. Better late than never.

Ah, nuclear weapons. The embodiment of Richard Gatling's dream, a weapon so terrible it would prevent people from fighting each other. I remember stories my dad told me about his friend who served in the Soviet Strategic Missle Forces about how terrible his job was. The job itself is simple: you've got several monitors in front of you, and a big red phone that connects you to your superiors. But other missile troops usually came back home with grey hair. Why? Because they knew that their mistake will cost not only millions of some "enemy" lives, but also theirs, theirr family's, their friends', everyone they've ever passed by on the street, everything they knew and loved. This is what a powerful deterrent nuclear weapons are. And that's why most, if ot all of the nuclear missiles' launch systems are foolproof. It's not like wars'll stop, though. But they are smaller now. I doubt there's going to be WWIII.

The soldiers were fine. They didn't march directly into the cloud or anything, they halted at a certain distance away from the blast. Most likely suffered no effects other than a lifespan shortened by maybe a month or two.

The absolute feeling of desolation and somber of the organ in the end of it is so over whelming and strong. I originally heard this song from MGSV, but my appreciation for this song goes so much deeper than that now. My school is doing a fallout version of Macbeth and we are playing this video at the beginning of the show, and the absolute shock and awe from the combination of the song and the video is incredible. Every time I see the camera pan to the left after the first blast and it shake a little, it always gives me chills running through my head and down my spine. My Dad had a customer in the 80s who was a nuclear bomb soldier. He was at some of these tests. He later died with a case of cancer caused by this.

I worked with a guy who was a damage control specialist at one of the Bikini tests, whether had anchored what was left of the Japanese fleet near the island( I think it was an H bomb test)This gentleman was climbing on to the flight deck of an aircraft carrier, within 20 minutes after detonation . He said as they (there were 6 men in this detail)got to the flight deck big pieces of white ash was falling all around them . One guy got hit with a piece about the size of a newspaper page. That guy was badly burned. All of them were sick for about3 weeks. My friend never found out what happened to the other men . But in 1977 he was admitted to the hospital with a heart that had detached from his chest. I think my friend has died some time ago.
