What is Northeast Asia's nuclear future? The war in Ukraine is “perhaps the final nail in the coffin” for the nuclear non-proliferation regime, veteran Singapore diplomat Bilahari Kausikan says in The Straits Times’ Conversations on the Future.

Common sense, right? Ukraine had world's 3rd largest nuclear stockpile. Ukraine gave up all of their nuclear weapons in return for a useless written promise by Russia, UK and US that Ukraine sovereignty will be defended by them. After Russia invaded Ukraine, no country will give up its nuclear weapons. Some countries that currently do not have any - will accelerate their programme to build nuclear weapons. Meaning Iran and others. Australia has nuclear ambitions and the purchase of US nuclear submarines is a first step. Australia has dreams of being a big power in this half of the globe and wishes to be Deputy Sherriff to USA which is the #1 Nuclear Power Country. That explains the recent rabid unprovoked hostility by Australia towards China. Indonesia is very angry about this impending nuclear threat from nearby Australia. Libya gave up its nuclear programme in 2003 and was conned by Europe and US. UK promised in 2006, that the UK would assist Libya if chemical or biological weapons were used or threatened against it. In 2011, western powers attacked and destroyed Libya. Obviously no European country would have dared to invade Libya if Libya possessed nuclear weapons and the means to deliver them to any part of Europe. South Korea must be foolish or mad not to develop their own nuclear weapons - regardless of what big brother USA says. South Korea lives in a neighbourhood where ALL its neighbours are nuclear powers. Russia, China, North Korea and --- Japan (that officially insists it has none). USA currently has about 5,550 nuclear weapons while China has only 350. China must intensely accelerate building up its nuclear weapons arsenal to be around 5,000 to 6,000 to match USA. Now there is daily bullying and provocation by USA on Taiwan issue. Which China must suffer and endure now. When China has parity (6,000) with USA on the nuclear arsenal, that bullying will stop. USA will look for some other weaker country to bully.

china was asking for it. they should “speak softly & carry a big stick” instead of barking everywhere & issuing empty threats. it preaches peace but goes around bullying & intimidating smaller nations & making all sorts of claims on international maritime waters. it only took an 82 y.o. american woman to call out china’s bluff. terribly embarrassing for beijing.

Nothing too difficult to understand. That’s why North Korea developed their nuclear capability and refused to give it up, knowing that is the best insurance against US aggression.

@@oasislin4587 the term ‘commie aggression’ is naivety. Does it mean you are fine with ‘Democratic Aggression’? The North Korean regime has every right to defend their rule. Who are you to say US-style democracy is good for them?
