+CerberusLives Hahaha! That's how I discovered Fear Factory. I borrowed the Mortal Combat soundtrack from a friend and Zero Signal captivated me. I was like "Whaaaaaaat the fuck is this?!?!?" and listened to it over and over and over again. Was really the first metal/industrial I had ever liked and was hooked from Day 1. Changed my taste in music forever.

Ill never forget hearing Demanufacture for the first time (year 2000). I was 13 and FF was so intense and almost too fast. I felt like I was listening to a metal band in fast forward and my mind was so blown. Keep in mind this was before the real explosion of the internet and youtube so exposure to bands was by word of mouth and shows so I really didn’t have a lot of exposure to heavy stuff. FF became my favorite band pretty quickly and they still are to this day. As a guitarist/vocalist myself Burton/Dino are a couple of my favorite artists to this day and it’s so cool to hear their writing/creative process.

About the closing message: I wish every fan realised how much buying an album means to a band. Even if they don't get a penny from the album sales themselves - which is rare, it shows the band has a dedicated audience. That turns into record deals, tours, endorsements, etc. Without those things, more and more musicians have to have a second career that cripples the music making, or just give up on making music entirely. A lot of people still have the 80's image of the millionaire rockstar, but most musicians actually struggle financially. Even some big names.
@Emper0rH0rde
@Emper0rH0rde 8 жыл бұрын
+Gabriel Martins (Inconfident) It's rare for a band to not get a penny from the album sales, or it's rare for a band to get a cut of the album sales?
@gab.lab.martins
@gab.lab.martins 8 жыл бұрын
***** It's rare for a band to make zero money from album sales. Basically, record labels are like banks, loaning money for recording the album and promoting it. Until you pay the loan back, you don't get anything. After that, it's usually a percentage. I don't have the exact stats on this, but it's what I've heard from multiple sources.
@Emper0rH0rde
@Emper0rH0rde 8 жыл бұрын
***** I see. That makes a lot more sense. Somebody once told me bands/singers make zero money from album sales, that it's the *record labels* that make money from album sales, and the only money the artists make is from ticket sales.
@gab.lab.martins
@gab.lab.martins 8 жыл бұрын
***** But, as I said, even if they didn't, it helps them get other professional deals, including tours. Also, a lot of bands these days are fully independent.

I saw Fear Factory while stopping in Houston last Friday at the Scout Bar. The band was Amazing! The new album is Wonderful... I heard it at a vinyl listening party with the Lights Out. The song "Expiration Date" was so beautiful; I cried and finally understand that we must open our minds up to the possibilities that man cannot exist without some type of robotics. Because under the surface they are "Living Dreams." I thank Fear Factory for being visionary leaders and the only True Messengers that will lead us to think of the possibilities of our 'Genexus' from Earth as we know it... I earnestly think, "Genexus" is on a par with "Demanufacture" and even better than "Archetype". Those are their three best albums in my opinion. And I enjoy all of them. And the bonus tracks on the special edition of Genexus, man, they top it off. I love them. Goose bumps on my back. Thanks for creating such fine art. Thank you guys.

Dude...I gotta disagree with that one.Obsolete,Demanufacture,and Archetype all went gold....Some of their best songwriting, Groovy industrial riffs and the gutteral high pitch range of frontman Burton C. Bell bring prestige to the bands legacy.

This may get lost in the comments, but I am gonna type this out anyway... I became a Fear Factory fan back when I was a teen, hearing Martyr on cassette. Yeah, I am that old. I have many albums, DVDs, and even the original logo tatted on me. I have seen FF numerous times, once in Rochester NY a long time ago, and I almost broke my leg to show Dino my tat. Got a \m/ and a guitar pick from him and it made my night to say the least. No matter what happens in my life, even after over 2 decades, FF still is, and always will be my favorite.

To what BCB mentions at the end, it sucks so many fans lost their shit over Transgression. I was a fan since Demanufacture. I still like Transgression, in its own way. I love Contagion, Millenium (yes, i know its a cover), and Moment of Impact. i know the rest isn't particularly every FF fans cup of tea, but it didn't deserve the backlash it got. I'm sad they don't even sell it on their site anymore. It's hard to find now, really. Archetype gets shit on a little bit too. Not as bad, but people still hate on it, because of a few latter-half songs on the album. Slave Labor, and Cyberwaste though... Drones, and Default Judgement... fucking amazing songs. Anyway. Pointless rant over. I hope to see FF for a third time again soon.

Two year old comment (I'm new to this band, few months since I first heard Demanufacture), but I'll still reply Archetype is in my view in the top 3 (can't decide between Obsolete or Archetype on the 2nd spot, Demanufacture always 1st!) of FF albums. I do not really like Digimortal and Transgression is not that typical, but still better than Mechanize and The Industrialist. I really enjoy Genexus, although lack of Ray and Christian is noticeable.

For me it was the "Drilling The Vein" - VHS. Before that my taste of music was just like a leaf in the wind, but with that sampler I made my own way of music taste. I was SOOOO in love with that! Most impressive was Track no 1: Replica. But also Machine Head, Sepultura and Coal Chamber was just mindblowing for my 10y.o myself! Together with that came KoRn, which also impressed me with the same impact. You guys all was my absoloute heroes and will ever be. I would ever again break the couch during pretending Logan Mader's insane jumping, playing air-guitar and just freaking out in my dad's living room (but maybe wouldn't unsuccessfully try to blackening my dog for that xD)! I support my favorite artists as much as I am able. I buy the music. I don't often get to go to a show being my favorite artists don't often tour close enough for me to be able to go to their show or actually some don't tour at all. I missed catching Fear Factory when they were touring though they were close by. I wish I had not. I hope to catch them someday. I have been able to catch a couple shows recently this often means I must go alone. My favorite artists atm are: Fear Factory, Delain, Beast in Black, Celldweller, Scandroid, Liliac, Ashes of Ares, and Demons and Wizards (depending on how the upcoming album turns out). I don't listen to much else very often.

I missed the chance to question, but here, will you guys update the setlist anytime soon? I mean, besides 2 or 3 songs, you usually play the same songs and I understand, they are all classic songs, but as I see it, you have enough material already to change the setlist and take out a few of the classic songs and switch for some that are really interesting, and by this I mean the song Obsolete, you have never played that song, it's a sick tune and to see the drums played live for that one might be something cool to look for. You dropped Scumgrief a long time ago, I would love to see it back in the set list, Acres of Skin might be switched for something like hurt conveyor for a change. You don't play Controlled Demolition, why? WHY? and so on, there are so many things you could switch and still make a helluva great setlist.
@PaperSpeakersWat
@PaperSpeakersWat 8 жыл бұрын
+Nick Caveman Yeah, the setlist generally contains What Will Become, Shock, Powershifter, Martyr, Archetype, The Industrialist, Self Bias Resistor, and ALWAYS Replica. I'd be nice to change it up a bit.
@AO968
@AO968 8 жыл бұрын
+Nick Caveman I agree. Though I like pretty much all the songs they play live, they have over 100 songs to pick from, and it seems they do what many bands nowadays do: go for the same old, same old that everyone loves. And it's ironic how you then hear Burton talk about alienating their fanbase, when this is another such example, yet they don't see it, or don't seem to give much thought to it if they do.
@AO968
@AO968 8 жыл бұрын
Nem33 No one is forcing them to only play the popular songs, that's what _they_ seem to believe. However, the Q&A already exposed the fact that some people like the more underrated songs and want to hear them live, if only once, so th band needs to pick up on this and take some risks. In fact, all the people I've spoken to on this subject, or whose opinions I've read on forums and such all say the same thing, that they should mix it up a little bit.
@AO968
@AO968 8 жыл бұрын
Nem33 Just because we're a minority doesn't mean we can't ask for the band to cater to us for once. We're merely asking them to change things up a little bit, to give some underappreciated songs time to shine. Is that so much to ask?
@PaperSpeakersWat
@PaperSpeakersWat 8 жыл бұрын
Nem33 While what you're saying is true, Burt also said that "Linchpin" is their most popular song. They still don't play it. So they're not completely catering to the majority, lol.

Gotta give Burton big kudos for sticking up for Transgression whenever it's mentioned. It is the darkhorse of the FF anthology but, I still give it a listen through when I'm in the mood for it. Though Aggression Continuum and (more so IMO) Genexus show that musicians can continue to make great music and sometimes even surpass earlier works. Shame about the separation of Burton from the band but, I'm enjoying Ascension of the Watchers and I think he's pretty happy with his new working relationship there. I'm sure that in the future when everyone gets tired of online EVERYTHING many will want to go back to DVD/CDs so they can see it when ever where ever they want (can't get great or descent signal/connection everywhere still) without paying or waiting for the download or whatever(&/or tolerating with the static &/or connection problems & malware/spyware/adware/virus'). It's criminal that they didn't put an FF track on Terminator 5. But I guess I didn't even care enough about Terminator anymore to even see it yet...

Why can"t you guys just smooth things over with Christian and Ray? The original lineup was the absolute best FF lineup. I don't think the new drummer even compares with Ray.

New drummer is technically better in every way. Rey had great double bass drum playing, but not much else.

@charvelgtrs ray is one of the best drummers i've ever heard. i also think it's the deliberately limited playing (or singing) style of each musician that makes demanufacture and, to a lesser extent, obsolete so great. everyone uses just a few techniques which sound perfect together.

@Lost Khajiit LMAO, Ray is extremely one trick pony. Gene Hoglan is one of the greatest metal drummers of all time.
