Most importantly we hav to win trophies & every season consistently challenge for top 4. Also need to expand our global fan base & increase our revenue. I've been supporting #NUFC for 30 years all the way from Malaysia. I think I'm the only one in my city that support #NUFC

We do need to win trophies and for the next 4-5 seasons finish in the top 4 every year. However, how realistic is that expectation when there are 5-6 clubs that can spend twice on fees and wages than Newcastle can?

Winning the League cup or F.A cup brings in less than 5million in prize money. So we don't need to win trophies
@andrewcharlton6080
@andrewcharlton6080 10 күн бұрын
@@ericengleby265 We need to do both. Many successful teams point to a single trophy win as the catalyst to their success. It gives players belief, takes away nerves when in similar positions and changes the outlook at a club. If we can only do 1 then the CL money is more important but winning a trophy is very important
@ericengleby265
@ericengleby265 10 күн бұрын
@@andrewcharlton6080 Why do we we have to finish top 4 or 5. Until our wage bill matches the other clubs to do this on a regular basis we will need to work miracles. Also hope others have shocker of a season. We don't spend to compete. Think we were in the bottom 4 spenders this season. To keep progressing you need to improve your starting 11. If we finish top 7 we will have done well. If we strengthen the 1st team in the window and steer clear of injurues to key personnel we have a chance for 5th spot. Our squad quality depth wise is poor. Howe has worked miracles at our club

There is no hope of competing and retaining players and matching wages when these new rules kick in. The gap between the cartel 6 and everyone else will be bigger and more difficult to over come. Football is a stitch up.
@shanesmith1792
@shanesmith1792 15 күн бұрын
The key for us is commercially. We'll begin to catch up when we generate more revenue. If we can qualify consistently in Europe every season too, that will also help. We'll get there. The Cartel can only slow us down. They won't be able to stop us. What I do believe is the referees have been told to try and screw us over in games. Many examples of this with time added/not added etc, biase on fouls.
@andrewcharlton6080
@andrewcharlton6080 13 күн бұрын
@@shanesmith1792Think about how long that will take to catch up though. 5, 6, 7 years or even longer. Even if we say 5 years we need to consistently outperform teams able to spend over twice what we can spend each year. We need to try and keep hold of players such as Bruno, Isak or Gordon even though we can’t win leagues or Champion Leagues and can’t afford to pay them what they’d earn elsewhere. It’s going to be incredibly tough, it is possible though but realistically we need to make a big sale once every 2-3 seasons just to be able to afford to reinvest as we need to be able to spend more

Really insightful interview. As a Newcastle fan the current rules are massively frustrating. I appreciate that the days of an owner like Abramovich coming in and waving blank cheques are over and I wouldn’t want the PIF to behave in this way anyway as success feels artificial but how can Newcastle compete on a season by season basis if the rules are stacked against us? I know with Brighton/Brentford’s data modelling theory you can punch through to a certain extent by scouting and developing players under the radar but it only allows you to go so far.. Hopefully one day all clubs will be able to compete and a fair and even playing field however keeping the status quo in place seems to be in the interest of the Big Six and the PL

31 players in our squad? Average of £94k per week is roughly £152m per year in wages... 70% of £300m (if we generate that in revenue) is £210m. That leaves only £58m per year for new signing and contract re-negotiations. So it's not a huge amount, especially if you're after £60m players and £150k per week wages.... hence why people keep saying that player trading is so important.

My lady brought me the home and 3rd shirt for Christmas, £160 for the two, I've just brought my son and stepdaughter the 3rd infant kit, £70(on sale, should have cost £100) amd now I've brought the retro 95-97 shirt £90. £320 in a few weeks is a lot of money for 5shirts. The prices wouldn't be so bad, if like back in the day, they wore the same shirt for 2seasons.

Good point on the wages issue of course. How many (tens of) millions have been wasted at Newcastle on dozens of fringe players down the years who we could never sell on for anything? The Hendricks, the Frasers, the re-signing of Carroll. We had years of that with Ashley - 6-12 million or so spent on utter dross for the most part.
@markspark7634
@markspark7634 14 күн бұрын
As long as the income keeps,growing at 30% plus per year, we will be fine, and I'm confident it will, we will get there, and if any of our top stars do end up being sold, due to the player wanting to move, then that will actually speed the process

I don't understand why we've given Lloyd Kelly an Ashley like contract, £39m he's costing us in wages, we've to pay him £7.8m for 5 years, irrelevant of him being a free transfer, Osulu, same 5 year contract is costing us £20m, £15m transfer fee + £5m wages, Kelly could be another costly mistake

The writing was on the wall when the "Big 6" started to budget for CL qualification as if it was guaranteed. The rules basically are there to protect their income, as the alternative was for them to leave and form the Super League which nobody else (including the PL obviously) wanted.

I guess it’s a case of either the rules change allowing us to spend or we have to dig in for the long term. Thing is, PSR is actually working…….. but only for the clubs outside those clubs who were allowed to invest/stock up prior to the rules on spending being changed. The playing field is levelling off. Spurs and Man Utd aside. (Which just makes their current state even funnier).

(73.4)+(70.7)−27.8=116m loss over 3 years. We must be close to a PSR breach even though we reported a profit for 2024 financial year of 23m. Max losses is 105m over 3 years. Not sure when need to balance the books and whether it's June or December. Can't see us signing anyone in January looking at those numbers. That 1st loss 73m loss will off our 3 year calculation this year which hopefully gives us some wiggle room. The 70% salary rules then kick in next season for teams in Europe which is going to restrict us should we qualify. Rules are a farce.

To compete with the big guys we need to drastically increase our revenue. We need to hire some serious PR experts and if necessary sell our soul to get to the level we need to be at (its only short term, we'll be fine lol). I would suggest we milk the saudi market for all its worth. The football league is starting to get some traction in saudi and with our connections to the country surely there is a way to explout that connection. Turn the country black and white and youve got an extremely rich country to sell to. Id copy man utds strategy they used in china/japan in the 90's and 00's.

So glad i started following another sport aswell as football, so when it becomes clear thats its impossible newcastle can ever compete for a prolonged period, i can leave this corrupt pile of toss sport in the rear view mirror.

@@paulstones1451 Oh dear, it appears you have difficulty in reading and comprehension. He said the Newcastle owners will have spent over 700 million pounds, not that they will sign that much in players. Be better.

Our problem is we're absolutely piss poor sellers, we bend over too easy. Yes, we've not had many sellable assets from the back end of Ashley's era, but almiron should have gone after his purple patch, we all knew what it was, he didn't just become a great player overnight, wilson should have gone, given his injury record and getting closer and closer to his 30's, his injuries weren't going to stop, infact, we all know the muscles aren't the same at and after 30, so he was always going struggle more. We've not pushed hard enough to get players like hayden, lewis, targett off the books permanently. If we sold them 3 players and got £8-10m, it's money in the bank and about £130k a week off the wages. Wilson and almiron are taking near to £110k a week home and they've barely kicked a ball this season. Gillespie hasnt kicked a ball simce 30th September 2020. The bloke is being paid £10k a week to have a wank everyday. We don't let young players go quick enough when we've decided they're not good enough, Watts, Barlaser, vilca etc... we're not selling or letting them go when they had a bit of sale value, insteadwe keep renewing contracts. Watts was 24 when we finally decided release him, vilca 24, barlaser was also 24. Ashby(23), and white(22) are clearly not going make it but they're still on the books, ashby has been a total waste of money, why we spent close to £2m on him for him never kick a ball competitively. Joe white is 22 and still getting loaned out to a team in league 2. We didnt push to get fraser, hendrick, clark or gayle out for a small fee instead they piss off on loan and or just let them run their contract down. Keep letting them go on loan isn't good enough, yes, we may temporarily free up wages for 6/12months, but get them off the books for a nominal fee. Getting more sellable assets tkaes time, but weve not been good enough at what weve done so far when it comes to selling. We've got to do better.

@anon-zk6iz he does, even now, we need to get rid in order to bring in, and he still doesn't want let anybody go. 🤦🏻 if he wants the team to get better and progress, then he's got "man up" about letting players go.
