Hey before you comment on how "unrealistic" my wet road is, consider that you are not seeing the shots that surround this one - which were actually filmed in the rain. This shot was made to match the other shots in the sequence. Also consider that this is a road in Arizona, and our roads tend to get really slick when it rains. They do not behave like roads elsewhere due to our dry climate. Thanks! ~PD

I was gonna ask if the wet asphalt wouldn't be a little darker, but I guess you answered that question.

Hey, thanks for the tutorial. I didn't necessarily need the car stuff as that is pretty specific to this shot, but just revealing the P_SnowRain node to me is going to be really fun to play with. Keep goign as in depth as you do. I am sure a lot of people appreciate that, myself included!!

Adding a bit of vertical skew to the car's reflection would really help it look more realistic at the start.

Thanks! I remember you asking about it, and have had other folks asking about it too So you were one of the people that prompted me to do this! (I ended up having to re-post the reel because of a render problem that I didn't catch until it was in "public beta" if you will, so your comment went away with the original video,.)

I believe the reason for your particle system being slow is the particle shape being 960x540. Try to reformat it to something like 50x50 and it might help.

Great info... I wanted to ask you if you could create a nuke compositing tutorial introducing heave atmosphere inside a live action 2D plate. I am working on a personal short and I need to create that heavy atmosphere to show a highly contaminated place like some places in China. Can you create something like that? I have seen some tuts using the depthgenerator node in nuke to have a zdepth map from a 2D live action plate and I have seen using a grade node, but I am curious if that's the best way to create itor is better to work with nuke particles and that zdepth map? It will be amazing if you could create something like that tut. Thanks in advance.

instead of shuffling out the alpha and then putting the roto on the main pipe, you can just use a copy node to bring in roto that you have done, or roto that has been prepared for you by another artist.
@PDeNigris2 жыл бұрын
Agreed, I think that's a personal preference. Either step takes 2 nodes: (Shuffle or Remove + Roto) vs (Roto + Copy). I tend to like rotos inline with footage unless there's a reason not to (such as using the same roto multiple places for whatever reason). One of the great things about Nuke is the flexibility to work as you like, as long as you keep your node graph tidy.

Hey, quick question about those tire tracks: Do you did them by paint brush? How did you animated them, I see that they fading out really nice and smooth.
@PDeNigris5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I brushed them in a Rotopaint node (and cheated by doing one tire and then duplicating the Rotopaint and transforming it a little to become the second tire.) They are black paint strokes on a white Constant. Then I've got a Roto node after my Rotopaints and I keyframed a very feathered mask to trail way behind the car and white out the tire tracks. That's Merged (multiply) over the Noise node for the road breakup. So the tracks appear black over the noise, then vanish. Hope that helps!

I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the particles to start before frame zero so that there's rain on my first frames. Is there a 'start at' option that I'm missing?

Shouldn't need to do anything, the P_SnowRain node starts up full of particles right from the first frame with no user input.

How would you do the inverse? , From wet to dry?
@PDeNigris3 жыл бұрын
That would be a bit tougher. There are tutorials out there for using Time Echo and the like to remove rain or snow. Wouldn't work on a moving camera shot though. And then you'd have to repaint the road to be dry and have no reflections. Probably not worth the effort.
