Told him he was the only family he had left
@McLarenMercedesАй бұрын
to op: You assessed him wrong. He wasnt just a pawn to him. Penguin originally intended to have him as his protegée. However Sofia kidnapping his mother made him admit everything he had done to both Sofia and his mother - even though it then is revealed his mother always knew his crimes. This event orchestrated by Sofia also made his mother have a stroke. It is also the reason Penguin before had lied to Sofia and everybody else his mother was dead. He knows that anybody finding out about her would use her to get to him. In this particular case Sofia learned far more than she had expected and even learned that his mother originally had intended to have him killed. This shakes him to the core. When his mother has a stroke he realizes he has lost everything and his victory is hollow. Vic later admits to Penguin he is family to him. Considering that Vic already knows a lot about him and has seen his weaknesses Penguin realizes that Vic can become another attachment and "weakness" his enemies can use to get to him. Just like his mother. He simply cannot allow himself from going through all that yet again. This is why he said to Vic that he did well and is a good kid. He also says he is sorry. Had he hated him and always had intended to waste him he would gloat and mock him just like he did to Maroni and also Sofia. You thinking Penguin always had used Vic as a mere pawn he always intended to kill means you neither understood how his ordeal with his mother at the hands of Sofia had hurt him and neither do you understand that this was something he realized he couldnt allow from ever happening again.

The saddest part about this is Oz’s demented mind working overtime to convince himself Vic would cross him or leave him vulnerable when all Vic did was prove time and time again he could step up. Oz is his own worst enemy. Vic was nothing but loyal but Oz twisted that into a narrative he would betray him down the line. Like mostly everyone else has. You can literally see it in his eyes in real time after the family reference. Oz has become the villain he wanted to. Terrible ending for victor but he literally said “Oswald Cobb..that’s the man I’m going to hell for” crazy foreshadowing there.
@ollie_raviollieАй бұрын
It may be his paranoia. But maybe he didn't think he would betray him, but to get rid of his weakness, his "good side" which is his mother. We've seen how vulnerable he was when his mother was in trouble. He wasn't just going to let Vic fully become another weakness of his.

No, in his dememnted mind, his thinks it is better to get rid of his weakness than make someone exploit it. His mother, that was the only person he couldn't reason and thought emotionally, to save. Ultimately Victors choices led him down this path with Oz, now he’s dead out in the cold while the man he poured his life out for profits from all his efforts. This really cements the tragedy of it all, Vic had the opportunity to escape and he didn’t take it.

In the series finale of The Penguin, the series reaches its climax with a devastating exploration of betrayal, exploitation, and the ruthlessness of ambition. Victor, Penguin's loyal lieutenant, meets a tragic end at the hands of the very man he devoted himself to helping. Throughout the season, Victor's unwavering loyalty to Penguin led him to sacrifice his personal happiness, including turning down a chance to escape Gotham's underworld with his girlfriend, Graciela. Her offer to start a new life of peace and freedom was his last opportunity to leave behind a life of crime and find redemption. Yet, Victor, convinced of Penguin's promises and blinded by misplaced loyalty, chose to stay and help solidify Penguin's rule over Gotham by doing the dirtiest work necessary for his rise to power. In a harrowing twist, once Penguin secures his dominance, he coldly murders Victor, deeming him no longer useful. It becomes clear that Penguin never intended to share the rewards of their conquest, viewing Victor as a mere tool to achieve his ambitions. Victor's tragic fate underscores Penguin's manipulation and selfishness, illustrating how those who seek power often use others as stepping stones, discarding them once their utility is exhausted. This storyline carries potent social messaging, highlighting a harsh reality in fictional and real-life relationships. It reflects the ways in which people-be they friends, family, or romantic partners-can exploit those who trust and support them, using their loyalty and efforts as means to personal success. Once these individuals achieve their goals, they may abandon or betray the people who helped them, leaving devastation in their wake. Victor's story is a cautionary tale about the dangers of unquestioning loyalty, misplaced trust, and the cost of sacrificing one's dreams and well-being for those who may not have reciprocal intentions. It challenges viewers to consider the importance of recognizing manipulation and valuing their own worth and question the motivations of those who demand their allegiance. The episode concludes not only as a chilling end to Victor's arc but also as a poignant commentary on the human tendency to exploit others for personal gain, resonating as a broader reflection on ambition, loyalty, and betrayal in everyday life. Just my two cents. - Lefty Stratocaster
