While Emma Short-e from School of Scratch was in the Worxlab filming a different project, we asked her to record a short funky freestyle on the new portablist specific Numark PT01 Scratch turntable.
This is the edited highlights, that gives a clear answer to the question of whether the "scratch switch" can actually scratch. The answer is yes by the way.
Big thanks to Emma and to Numark.

Nice!, Love Short-E's cuts, A few missed clicks here and there but that could be because she wasn't used to the switch compared to a fader. Really would like a play on one of these.

I still use a Numark PT01-USB, but it's starting to show its' age a bit. I may eventually replace it with a PT01 Scratch, as it appears to be identical to the PT01-USB but with that scratch feature.

The scratch switch is a smoother version of a toggle switch on a regular mixer..without the clicks, locks and popping sound.

i just got one.. really needs a start/stop button but it's a decent machine.. and you can totally scratch 12" records, you just have to move your hand in a bit closer to the label or you tilt the record up and it kicks the arm and causes it to jump.. a bit harder to do really tight fast cuts but you can manage easily

Like a serato disk? No. Your phone can play through the speakers with the included aux in port, but to scratch you need to be using a vinyl record on the turntable. I'm assuming by "blank" record you mean a serato tone disk, which would do nothing on this besides play the control tone that the serato software uses to play wav files. I would advice you go digging and look for Acapellas, you can usually find 7" singles with them for less than a few dollars. 12" Acapellas are usually even cheaper

a spell has been cast on my PT-01: it buzzes. Dreadful low hum grounding noise. Been on forums that recommended taking one cable, two cables, then entire USB unit out. The buzzing was unaffected. I tried scratching at low volumes where it doesn't buzz, to no avail. Then I notice the kill switch on mine is the other way around than she has it in this vid. What gives Numark? Good concept but can't you set it up the normal way without buzzes and the switch in the most habitual position?

My issue here is that she is using a "7 scratch record, which is not included. When you attempt to use a 45" with the adapter the product simply does not work. The adapter is too light and thin and pops right out. Also the 1/8" cord to connect your phone / tablet is not included. So as far as an "out of the box" demonstration this video is misleading. This could have been an excellent product but as is its lacking in several areas.

Mark Settle Hello mark, i opened my box and no music is playing. Do i have to plug in the turntable in order to play music? This was not included in the video. Serious question though...is this a direct drive or belt drive? If you dream of getting tech1200s or CDJs Would you get this just to start out?

A million things I could point out... just get normal decks!!!! straight arms are worlds better. . . silly to think that ONE table is good enough. like a piano with... I was going to say one octave. but HOW do you put 12" on this ? a partial platter is going to hold up ? .. also notice how "gently" they were scratching. this was more like a crossfader demo ..

It's defo her. Check images of her online, you see her hands and the rings she has on them. Way to discredit someone though! I hope it made you feel great for a few seconds and fed your ego!
