Having added my bored out 1380cc A series engine I did my best to set up the jetting on my Weber DCOE, let's see how well i did and how much better a proper set up on a rolling road can achieve!

Jack. Can i recommend you ditch the filter gauze on the ram pipes and put a nice cold air filter box with a good quality filter (K&N etc) installed. Gauze is famous for neither filtering or flowing. It will be costing hp and dust that can wear your engine prematurely will be getting in. If you read David Vizards book on tuning the A-series you will see what i mean. He is the A series God.
@speedfinder12 жыл бұрын
That was my immediate thought when I saw it. If you add up the width of each of the wires in the gauze, you'll see just how much of the available "Throat" area is being obstructed, for absolutely no benefit whatsoever!

Great that you had filmed the talk after the dyno runs about emulsion tubes and jetting. Nice to see the graph and get the sence of changes in the driveability of the engine. When i will get my 205 on the road with the twin weber setup a rolling road tune is the first place i will drive to. I realy enjoy your videos! 👍🏼

Back when i had my Mk 1 Sprite in the 1970`s it was modified with a 1098cc. One of the best cars i have owned but sadly i tried to modify to a Modsports racer and failed..Sold it in the end for £40 as a rolling shell after a struggle !!! Best drive was a long journey down to Dorset for a holiday. running 80 mph (?} or off the clock with the top down. Your engine at the time was so exotic to obtain.. after working on these a series engines for nearly 40 years be it in a minis or sprites etc playing with numerous engine and gearbox combinations I would have guided the customer down the super charging path. It never ceases to amaze me how much time and money people spend on building these engines and have disappointing results, even with the combination that's seen here 90hp and the tyres is mediocre at best. Sure it's not an absolute slug and I'm sure he 's keeping a tally on the budget but if you have a chat with what MED can do for you over in the UK I think your eyebrow would raise! I'm over in Australia and we have miles and miles of long straight roads where you can drop the hammer and unless your starting at 150hp your going to have VERY angry customers! Good luck and I'm sure you'll enjoy the car, cheers

If it manages perhaps 110bhp and is 750kg with driver that's close to 150bhp per tonne. Respectable numbers. Your average modern Mazda MX5 is certainly no better in the power to weight stakes, except this has skinny tyres and will no doubt have enough to slide about on demand!

The mesh protection on your carbs are really the worst modification you can do. They dont prevent small particles from entering the engine, and they are terrible for the air flow of your carbs. I know they look good, but replacing them with proper air filters will save your engine and gain performance

@FelixIsMyName3 жыл бұрын
Odd question, would a car on carbs have big power differences between winter and summer, due to the ambient temp?
@emmajacobs55753 жыл бұрын
You’d probably have to re-tune it to make the most of the change in air density, but I suspect, it wouldn’t make a big enough difference for it to be worthwhile, especially here in the UK where we don’t get a very big range in temperatures.
@delukxy3 жыл бұрын
@@emmajacobs5575 In the UK, cars like these go better on damp days.

I had one of those. You could put NASA rocket fuel in a Sprite and it will still give you 80 HP. That's what they do and that's what they should do. You can change the brakes to discs however but just leave the rest alone.
