Hello Daniel, You have solved the last problem by using formula, when it can be solved by assuming one number be x and other (42-x). By following another instruction in question we can make a quadratic equation and solve it . x*(42-x) =437. Now what I am trying to ask WHAT IS SIGNIFICANCE of using that formula which you told in last question.

Hello Arjun :) There are 2 significances as to why I "did'nt" use x and (42-x) . They are : 1>. I've already explained a shortcut formula to use where you directly substitute (a-b) and (ab) ...We have to find the quicker way to solve ;) 2>. Factorization in many times should be avoided. It takes time. And unless you're really good at Factorization, it will Bad to waste time during competitive exams :)

I have taken minus sign to indicated the difference. :) Say when I say number A is exceeding the Number B by 5 :) Means what ? A - B = 5 right ? ... Same way :)
