Thank you for the video. Its really useful but would it be possible to avoid giving errors [wrong models] during the introductory phase of learning? They really make it more difficult- I didn't have problems with mixing up German numbers with Dutch but when it's given to me in one breath it makes it confusing, especially if one has dyslexia. You can give the at the end of the video and then it is a nice enrichment .

I think it's so interesting how similar Afrikaans and Dutch are. I learnt Afrikaans in school and I'm pretty fluent at it so learning Dutch isn't too difficult for me, the only thing I am finding a bit difficult is adapting from my Afrikaans spelling to Dutch spelling.

Hoi! Ik ben vijfenveertig. (But I feel a lot older!) At least counting in Dutch makes sense. 5 and 40. Easy. Unlike our Welsh language, which goes batshit crazy with numbers. We have un - dau - tri - pedwar - pump - chwech - saith - wyth - naw - deg (1 -10). Then in primary school you learn "un-deg-un" (1x10 + 1), "un-deg-dau" (1x10 + 2), and so on, which makes sense. But most people use a different counting system, starting with "un-ar-ddeg" (one-on-ten = 11), "deuddeg" (two-ten = 12), "tri-ar-ddeg" (three-on-ten = 13), and so on. Which at least still makes some sort of sense. And then you get to 15, and the following numbers. "pymtheg" (five-ten = 15). And then it goes off the rails. "un-ar-bymtheg" (one-on-fifteen = 16). "dau-ar-bymtheg" (two-on-fifteen = 17). Then "deunaw" (two nines = 18). Then it's back to "pedwar-ar-bymtheg" (four-on-fifteen = 19), and "ugain" for 20. Then it settles down a bit with a fairly logical sequence for the next ten numbers. Then you get to 31, which is "un-ar-ddeg-ar-hugain" (one-on-ten-on-twenty). 35 is "pymtheg-ar-hugain" (fifteen-on-twenty). And so on. Whoever came up with this counting system must absolutely hate people! 🤣 (But probably loved maths).
