Thank you for making this video! I only recently started Elden Ring and chose Nightfolk because I liked the description and appearance. I was attacked by an invader called Festering Fingerprint Vyke, and I liked his spear and lore so much that I wanted to learn more about him. Turns out he was a Nightfolk too, so my mission in the game became to vindicate my distant relative. I love the lore and RP-ability in this game. I know I’m very late, but the DLC is coming soon!

Important note the descriptions of the maiden and swordstress actually suggest that the Nox are a matriarchal society with the night maidens being the highest members of the religious order and the swordtresses serving as their personal bodyguards. As for the women being more covered up I think you actually have it backwards. The veils over their eyes may actually serve as a symbol of divinity. It creates a barrier between the divine maidens and the lower class. Also in terms of modesty both the monk and maiden/swordstress sets cover up nearly the entire body but the female sets also accentuate their femininity which tells me it was likely something valued within their society. Other than that one detail I really like your theories! Keep up the great work!

Interesting detail: the urumi description states ‘wielded like a whip by Nightfolk warriors.’ the urumi is a sword-whip closely resembling the nox flowing sword. Perhaps the nightfolk are dependents of the nox? Or of silver tears? And therefore the wield similar-yet-not-exactly-the-same weapons. The urumi is also found in caria manor, giving it more connection to the nox since we know the carians (or at least ranni) showed interest in the nox

My theory is pretty simply that the Nightfolk are a branch of the Nox that accepts the grace of gold. Silver blood is that of creatures that have not been graced by the Erdtree. So it makes sense that accepting grace would give you red blood.

I really love this! I wonder if this could get explored in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC! We see omens and a destroyed culture in the Land of Shadow, so maybe we will learn more about races were like prior to the influence of the Greater Will!

I thought the Nightfolk were somewhat related to the Albinauric. The Albinauric enemies blood is silver-coloured and Latenna has a similar skin colour.

I think the nightfolk are the mimics because when the mimics take on a bipedal form it's the form of a nightfolk. Also I believe D's brother is a nightfolk as far as npcs go

There is a Zuillie the Witch video on the Nox potentially being at least related to the Numen. But the only lore information we have on the Nightfolk is the Urumi was used by their warriors. Hopefully we’ll get more information in the dlc about them.

First off great vid! (Numen's Rune lolll) I love the possibility you implied that the nightfolk were turned into the silver tears. And the other possibilities. I have yet other offerings for thee. Both Tolkien's Numenor and From's eternal cities also share an origin inspiration. Atlantis. Furthermore, the Numena were the gods/spirits (of mundane acts of life like sweeping the house lol) of the Romans before they adopted greek mythos! There are male Numen!! The Onyx and Alabaster Lords. Everything the Order assimilates to gain power, it also turns around and suppresses the source of power both physically and politically. Marika is unique, this is the perspective propagated. The dragons were swept away. The Giants in a forbidden land. The Numen. The Helphen. Absorb the power, make everyone forget the process, mystifying a controlled population. I do think nox, nightfolk, onyx, and Alabaster, are all normalized nomenclature of the decimated numen peoples.

Nightfolk used to bleed silver. I think the nox are a decendant of numen that interbred with 1st gen albenaurics after being banished underground and created the nightfolk.

I think the night folk are obviously connected to albinaurics/mimics. It’s very clear to me. I also definitely think the Nox and the Numen were one people separated by ideology/beliefs & agendas which resulted in a rift and eventually the banishment of a whole large swathe of Leyndell. Exactly below the capital city where above we are a massive empty void, there are ruins of a Nox/like city with a building style that matches the likes of Sellia, City of Sorcery, Nokron, Eternal city and Nokstella, Eternal city as well as what appears to be the civilian housing/public areas of Leyndell, Capital City.

I don't think they would add Numen to character creation if they were all-female race. They would be unplayable race like Albenaurics then.

The fact that you can choose a male Numen in character creation, and queen marika is rhatigan and she’s a numen so he is also probably a numen. Also Queen queen marika is Numen and she had children so why do you think Numen would reproduce in a different way

Very well thought. I made a post about the Thuatha de Dannan and the Fomorians, back in 2016, on the bloodborne lore reddit. But it seems to have upset many people so I got banned lol. Maybe I was too early in the lore game or too spot on.. But it is very nice to see someone else interested in the same Irish mythology, and to see the connections to Souls lore finally uneathed.

I personally think nightfolk is a cop out because they didn’t think it’d be worth the effort to have custom blood colors. Being an rpg and the player being the only one the story is really left up to the individual. The most likely is descendant of nox, or some kind of mimic or nox experiment to create an Elden lord. The last one I like because your goal is to be Elden lord. But really it’s because they couldn’t call the race nox because there’s no silver blood for players, but that’s not a fun answer.

Trying to figure out which race I chose, we now know the numen come from shadow of erdtree and nox from below. Maybe nameless city has something to do with nightfolk

So, my gal and I were looking through the wiki, trying to figure out what’s the deal with the Numen when I noticed that the Eternal Cities are the only other place (that I could find) where “eternal” is used, outside of Marika. Then we did some theory crafting and, for the lols, I shall share this 4 am theory to you lot to be butchered. Enjoy! Nox are a people who defied the Greater Will by wearing class helmets to protect themselves, and were banished underground because of it. They’re incredible craftsmen and they have an incredible culture of matriarchy, too. The Nox are awaiting the Lord of Night to bring in the Age of Stars. They dress conservatively, their men are monks who might ride giant ants, but they defy the gods as a whole. One city, Nokron, is underneath the sorcerer city of Sellia. Sellia is where you can find the Nightmaiden Mist, a Nox spell that produces a life-sapping silver mist, but Sellia is also where you can find assassins who can turn invisible. Marika is a Numen, as are the Black Knife assassins. Numens are said to come from another world, yet the Japanese says that they’re said to come from somewhere other, with implications being the afterlife or the underworld. Nox have Nightmaidens, who wield small knives, and are protected by entourages of Swordstresses. If Marika, a Nox, was joined by Alecto, Tiche, and others…they would’ve been arriving above ground. Rather than adhere to their people’s ways, however, Marika was given the chance to be as beautiful and brazen as she wished to be, so long as she followed the Greater Will. Years later, her old accomplices, who have sold their skills as assassins with the help of Concealing Veils (which turn you invisible)….finally come poking around to find Marika has had a family, become queen, and is an immortal. Ranni, her stepdaughter, doesn’t wanna succeed the throne and wants to bring in the Age of Stars….so they trick Ranni into desperate action. Desperate action that allows them to punish Marika for her betrayal, will still bringing in Ranni as the Lord of Night: breaking the Golden Lineage with a bunch of Black Knives in Godwyn the Golden’s body. The Nox Flowing Hammer’s also fairly similar in proportions to Marika’s Hammer, and made from a similarly unorthodox substance and design~ Okay, time for rest!

Don't think GRRM created just like foundation, he essentially created everything and Miyazaki job was to blow up the mythology that GRRM created with an apocalypse. If you read analysis of GRRM writing especially with ASOIAF it is pretty much all over Elden Ring, like there is so much in this game that is in the ASOIAF mythology so it is more then likely is GRRM world. This is probably the best ASOIAF game will ever get, LMAO.

I love this take! The political turmoil among the major factions of the Lands Between vying for the throne is quite reminiscent of ASOIAF for sure! I love that they collaborated for this game and it would be awesome to see them continue to work together in the future or perhaps involve other authors!

@@noctugal It isn't really just a take, GRRM pretty much said he made the world and Miyazaki was to do an apocalypse. If you check, a ASOIAF KZbinr called David Lightbringer. Lots of the stuff he has covered in analysis of GRRM writings for ASOIAF pops up in a variant in Elden Ring and vice versa, it pretty interesting :D

Just found your channel. When you were talking about Radagon and Marika and how we don't see any male Numan ingame, what if we do? You said that we really don't know who or what Radagon really is. What if he's a Numan? What if he's Marika's twin brother? She did refer to him as 'mine other self' and it fits with how George R.R. Martin writes stuff. Fun question for everyone. At the end of elden ring, is Marika dead? I think not. My craziest theory is that Marika is in Melinas body. And that's why we only see Melina as an apparition. But more rationally I believe her hand in Ranni Black Knife Plot and subsequent Shatter was exactly more of what she said she was going to do. Study the depths of the golden older. I think any good scientist wants to know what happens when something shatters completely 😈. Anyways, can't observe the results if you're not there to, well, observe them Frankly, in Marikas eyes, if Godwyn died, murder or not, favorite child or not, a sacrifice is what he becomes. She was probably cool with Fias tampering as well. As his only way of redemption....which he may still have???? Anyways, this is what this video got me thinking of. Maybe a little off topic but I thought it was an appropriate way to say, Thanks for the hard work :D

Tbh, if the nightfolk bled silver that makes them silver tear descendants. But silver is inferior to gold, so how could an inferior silver lose its silver blood? Easy, it introduces the blessing of gold. The only way I see this happening is by reproducing with those that have the blessing of gold. I would say the nightfolk are descendants of silver tears and natural ppl.

Numan is not Latin for God. Deus/Deum/ Dei = God in Latin. The closest words in Latin to Numan are Nomen/Nomine= Name

Did slip up with saying it directly translates to God, though I don't really think that changes much. The other translations are correct based on all sources I used, with it also having several other meanings, such as actually referring to a local divinity/God, or representing items that contain a spirit or divine power.
