It's all about finding one that fits you perfectly, tightening it the right amount, and then practice and conditioning. They are going to be hurting bad for a while in the beginning, but eventually, you'll find yourself moving at a much quicker pace for much longer periods of time, without feeling any soreness for a long time. I have gotten to that point, and it is soooo nice being able to go on long, fast cruises on skates. I just dream of being able to skate around somewhere like this place, or a big city near me, like New York City

Depends on what you call a T-stop. If you go by the standard terminology... Weight distribution is the key. You probably put too much weight on the back leg (the one perpendicular to the direction you are moving in) and it starts to spin you around. Try to move your upper body more over your front leg when you T-stop, that will help you keep the weight on the front leg instead of putting it instinctively on the other one. Now if you come from Bill Stoppard's videos, he basically called powerslide a T-stop (The only difference between his powerslide and a regular one is he just bends his sliding leg a bit, applying more pressure to the sliding edge, causing a much faster stop). There all I can say is practice, practice and practice. Also, smooth surface and harder wheels will help you learn the basics.

Hey, many thanks for the positive reply. I am also skating around a long term hip injury which is a debilitating factor. I will get there and will hold your words whilst practising. Mainly I am loving the skating and hoping that will grow as I improve. #appreciated

All will come naturally after some time and practice. Don't put yourself down. It does not matter if you can do sick slides or jumps, as long as you enjoy what you are doing. Take it slow, be cautious not to hurt yourself and have fun skating ;)
