You are hilarious, my friend. Once upon a time, nurses only charted by hand. I started my nursing career that way 25 years ago. One more scenario you could have added is trying to read the doctor’s handwriting back then and having to go around asking my colleagues if anyone could decipher their hieroglyphs.

No no drug short forms on that colored sheet...I was hired to be part of Epics development of clinical modules and applications. It was interesting work to standardize things and try to eliminate all the extra steps paper had caused to be normal.

Y’all can do it! Put your heart and soul into it! I loved being a nurse, such a sense of pride and accomplishment, and soooo rewarding to be able to go home knowing you made someone comfortable or that you helped them understand their diagnosis. I love it for years, until I became the patient. I was sicker than some of my patients and was getting a quick neb tx, then back to answer call lights, inject my blood thinners, back to my patients, straight cath myself, then back to the floor. As much as I loved nursing, I was losing myself and running my body into the ground. By the time I found out what was wrong with me, the damage was done. I’m in a hospital bed with nearly as many supplies and meds as in the supply rooms. I cry a lot for what I’ve lost. But I don’t regret a day of caring for people. I only hope I gave them the care they needed the way they needed it. So you two, please let me pass the baton in hopes that you’ll both get out there and show the world what you can do! The experience you will gain when you get out there will mold you into the finest nurses! I pray you’ll do well. nanabanana127 at gmail dot com. Please keep me posted! And make me proud! You two can message or email me anytime, and hopefully I can be of help!

Or 3! I’m not sure why I thought there were 2 of ya, but I’m happy to hear from another one. I don’t have the highest education, was enrolled in a program for Rn, then BSN, and so on. But when I got sick I finally got cut off at the place I just wanted to jump into. So, I remember the day I got TOO sick. I was in a patient’s home with one patient. He was on a vent so only those of us who were vent certified could be alone in caring for him. He bucked at it but we got everything lined out. I was having severe pain! I’m exhausted but I do still think my past experiences will help someone who’s new but has the latest techniques and protocols in nursing. We can all learn from each other!

This video brought back memories of my time on the med surg floor especially the going to the bathroom only to find it occupied every time, the waiting on the phone while trying to do your rounds, pass meds, chart...I did learn how to paper chart in nursing school so I didn't have a problem when the system would go down. I hated floating to another floor in the middle of my shift. I didn't mind it at the beginning because then I started out on an equal footing. If I had to float, it was like doing twice the work because I had to do assessments and document them twice, receive report twice, report off on patients twice plus be on a floor where I'm not as familiar to it's setup or routine. I survived and thank God I'm retired from nursing.

I just lost my husband who had end stage renal failure among other ailments. He was in and out of the hospital. I rarely ever ran into a nurse of his that didn't work hard at keeping him watched, comfortable, and well taken care of. It made a huge difference in how quickly he could get discharged. So ginormous kudos to hard working nurses everywhere. His biggest problems in getting good care came when he went to a rehab. The nursed aids left much to be desired. If I had not been able to be there every day, he would have suffered neglect. Your thoughts on aids in the medical fields please. Love your vids. My man would have got a huge kick out of you if you had been his nurse.
@belindaschmidt9964 Жыл бұрын
There are excellent nurse aides and there are terrible ones. Typically once you get to a nursing home or rehab place the aides are in high demand and less of them to take care of chronic pts. Realize too that some pts are demanding and on their call bell a lot which actually takes care away from others who need it!!! That happens a lot!

LOL...! Paper charting is the legacy of those of us who worked the various Units prior to EPIC (fail) coming online. Good luck with that, Bro...!

I am literally dying right now when he said quote they want me to write it down on paper f*** it! Oh Lord such sweet little baby nurses! I literally have trained nurses who were appalled at the thought of having to put a pen to paper and literally sat there looking at me like I was cross-eyed and crazy! No no seriously literally!

"Paper charting, nursing school didn't prepare me for that", I almost died. My nursing school actually did prepare us for that. I graduated in June 2019 and we still use paper to chart. I now work in a Psych hospital and guess what, yep, paper charting. Lol. I love your videos!

I was one of the nurses helping develop EPICs system. The company balked when it came to psych app chart development. I tried even just a basic rounds check sheet...but got nowhere. I TRIED, sorry !

You are so funny , and you are so right. Everything that you said is truth, we have to deal with all that you said, lab, pharmacy, scd pumps, xray. I'm an rn in labor and delivery and I face those issues all the time.

So much of that is so true. That phone call from the lab 🔬 🧫 is the worst. I work in pediatrics. I hate poking children and making them cry. If that happens to me I let them get 2 toys from the toy closet. Lol one time I actually did walk in on a social worker sitting on the toilet. We were so embarrassed 😳 we couldn’t look at each other for a whole week. Your so Funny Nurse Blake keep em coming.

At least you have Epic. Our system is from the 90s and it shows. I loved Epic when I used it.

Those 5am calls from either the lab stating its hemolyzed or chemistry saying the potassium is low so you get to page the provider to get an order for potassium. I'm so glad I don't have to deal with that in the OR now.

Saw this video years ago… still super funny 😅watching it again. EPIC is down??!!! What do we DO guys?? No one taught this in nursing school. PAPER CHARTING?!! What’s that? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I’m an old lady so I existed when paper charting was a thing. 😂 Blake you are both endearing and hilarious. EPIC does have its upsides for sure.
