I'm a nursing student doing capstone on an L&D floor. One day my patient suffered a placental abruption during the labor and she was rushed into a C-section. I was happy that as a student I had the time to sit with the support person outside the OR, give her some reassuring updates and explain what was happening. But usually in those situations the support people are left on their own and in the dark for a long time. I also thought afterwards that there should definitely be a professional on hand to help the mother process what had happened, as it was an extremely traumatic situation

They were so lucky to have you there outside the OR that day. And you’re 100% right, I definitely think someone should come talk to everyone after a traumatic experience to debrief. It can be so overwhelming and heavy. But seriously, good for you for being there!

This was very therapeutic to watch. I'm 11 months postpartum from my 33 week preeclampsia C section and still processing. Teared up right along with you. Thank you too for mentioning the need for general if the plts drop too low, luckily I was able to get a spinal but it was getting close.

My sister-in-law had preeclampsia. Got induced at 32 weeks for her safety, and thankfully both she and baby are doing well. She still has lingering vision damage from the condition though. Definitely important to keep close tabs on your symptoms throughout your pregnancy.

So glad she and babe are doing well. It really is a scary disease, especially with how quickly things can progress!

This brought on all the tears! Currently 17 weeks pregnant with my first and since my mom had severe preE, I'm considered to be at risk too. I'm doing everything I can do reduce risk of having it myself, but I'd be lying if I didn't say it gives me so much anxiety. Seeing this perspective was scary but I've been trying to learn what I can so it was also very informative. Thanks for dissecting the tough stuff so we can see what to expect!

Just want to pop on here and thank you for outright saying that being black and of low-income are not causes but are risk factors due to a broken AF system. Most people would just say, "You have a higher risk if black or low income" while kind of avoiding saying the whole truth.

Gosh this video made me cry! My first baby was born at 28+6 it was so scary! Without explanation, she was and is fine! Just wanted to spend more time with her parents we suppose 😍 I had little skin to skin and a kiss before they took her and my partner followed as I ordered him to! Didn’t want her to be alone. No oxygen needed just 3 days of ventilation. Gosh she was soo tiny, but fighting hard and I breast feed her as soon as she was ready! We spent 13hours per day with her for 2,5 months in hospital. My fighter is so brave, strong personality and she makes me crazy these days 😅 she is 2,5 years old now and pediatrician says she is more than that ❤

I had a 31 weeker, but it was due to spontaneous labor that couldn't be stopped. I still had magnesium given to help protect his brain and one dose of steroids (not enough time for a second). I'm very thankful that the NICU at my hospital is in the same area so he was right down the hall during the time I was still inpatient. He is almost 4 now and doing great, but it was definitely a scary time. Especially when he developed NEC at 4 weeks old and had to be transferred to another hospital, which for me was more scary than the birth. In total, we spent 7 weeks in NICU. He was born on Christmas Eve and went home on Valentine's Day ❤️

I had preeclampsia and was induced at 38wks. Started getting upper right quadrant pain on my way home from my 37wk appt (37w5). Started vomiting uncontrollably that night. After being sent home from 1 hosp and going for a 2nd opinion at a closer to home hosp, I was sent for induction. Preeclampsia was not caught until 2nd hosp because my blood pressure was never elevated. I'm normally flagged with low BP, so the "normal" BP was actually MY high BP. I regularly suffer from Migraines, so that was never a good indicator and I have non of the risks associated with it (other than ftm) and none of my urine tests showed anything. Ended delivering via C-section after 18hrs post manual water break. Baby was 8lbs and sunny side up.
@dvlshangl34882 жыл бұрын
Traumatic experience for me for sure. Definitely cried with this video. I was getting blood drawn every 2 hours for 2 different tests for multiple days. Both arms were nothing but bruises by the time I was discharged. Nothing went the way I had envisioned. I was at the wrong hosp with Drs I didn't know, I was induced, I had my waters manually broken, C-section, babe went to NICU for a week (fluid in lungs).

Thank you for sharing your story, especially all your symptoms developing before your blood pressures got super high. So important that we know to advocate for ourselves and continue to watch things with these scary symptoms. I'm so sorry things didn't go as planned for you or baby. 😥

We had planned a co-ed baby shower, but my husband had army stuff that got in the way of being able to attend. We just turned it into a drive through (COVID restrictions were just starting to lift).

I was induced at 37 weeks due to early detection of preeclampsia (slightly elevated Bp and small amount of protein that would appear and disappear) and now I’m terrified to get pregnant again. I HAVE to be there for my daughter and I don’t want to put my life at risk. At the same time, I know I’d be under a close supervision and we could detect it as early as possible again. I’m very torn

I had a traditional women only baby shower. It was really nice because the women who had given birth were able to share their experience with childbirth and postpartum recovery in a way they definitely wouldn't have if the shower had been coed. Plus, it was nice to have a day to celebrate just me and the baby. If my husband had been there, it would have been a celebration of all of us. But quite frankly, I am the one that has had to deal with all the pregnancy symptoms. He has been super supportive and lovely, but I deserve a day to be surrounded by love where the focus was just on me.

During the beginning of the pandemic every baby needed a big celebration (virtually or whatever!), not just baby #1. We just needed something to celebrate. Love the drive-by idea.

Thank you for this video! I had high BP with both of my pregnancies. For my second, I was induced at 37 weeks due to very high BP and intense headaches. At 5 days post partum, I had to spend 36 hours in the ER being treated for post partum preeclampsia. Which I didn't even know was possible!!! Had to leave baby home too (Covid). Just over a year later now and still processing this trauma for sure. 🫤

@@Nurse_zabe thank you!!! I feel like there's a lot of good, evidence based stuff in there, and some really excellent points on mental health, social and political issues tied to birth, and the sorry state of healthcare in our country--particularly when it applies to women and people giving birth--but some of their arguments make it hard to differentiate between observations from the subjects and actual evidence based practice. I feel like it's important to parse the two
