Great topic! My colleagues and I are trying to locate rationale for NOT using inadine/iodosorb products for patients with a shellfish allergy...this has been a practice where I work for a long time, but I cant find any research to support it. As Tammy stated, iodine products are contraindicated for pts with thyroid issues, pregnant, taking lithium, or on burns - the product monographs are clear about these situations. Has anyone been able to find research around the shellfish allergy and iodine idea?

Hi Shelly, in my research I did not come up with anything about shellfish allergies. I lOVE that you are critically looking at practices to see if they are evidence based ... let us know what you find out

question [that is how I got to your channle], what are the differences between alcohol swabs and antiseptic swabs?
@NurseMinder
@NurseMinder 3 жыл бұрын
Alcohol swabs are antiseptic swabs. You will hear both names used. They are used to clean a site before procedures (IV start for example) to reduce the microorganism count.

Interesting... not something I would recommend. Some people do use “alcohol” from a variety of sources to feed their addictions

I don't mean to sound blondor screwed at all but I just have to get this out there first I really don't want to hear any talking lectures about anything I'm just here simply to ask questions and be as safe as I can for administering IV drugs to myself which ones and in what order should I use them in how can I help my skin be as healthy as possible cuz I'm going to do what I'm going to do I just want like I said to be as healthy as possible I can send pictures and all that if you have an email I know I have some type of infection but I feel like if you can see what it looks like maybe you could better help me or give me advice on how to keep it as clean and infection free as possible again I don't want anybody telling me what I should or shouldn't do you just seem very good at what you do and very knowledgeable so I'm really seeking advice from what I see as a

I appreciate your candor and honesty. IV drugs (I assume street) is not somethings I have knowledge in. If you are worried about infection- then cleaning is key. Soap and water before. Clean needles, one use only, and no sharing

Yeah it's all good... my apologies about the spelling errors I was using the voice text I'm not sure if you're familiar with it can be a nightmare I'll post a picture for you keep in mind I am going to the doctor to get antibiotics but the picture I'm about to take a while it might be infected it it's not in need of Lansing or anything like that I know trust me I've been there a hundred times so I'm a hundred percent that I don't have an abscess even though I look a lot like I do can see what I'm dealing with and if you can believe it it was much worse and gas money to go down but I'll be healing a bunch and then I'll miss and and even if it doesn't absence it gets like a real swollen like and a lot of times gets some kind of like a secondary infection or whatever after the fact I've been lacking on using clean ones or washing before that be one hundred percent honest is it really that big of a difference like do you think based on after you look at the photo you can let me know if I will really see the difference and or hopefully eliminate the problem obviously I know I need to make sure I don't miss that all in order for it to Heal up real good also I need tips on how I can find a vein better is there anyfind a vein better is there any diagrams or anything like that my mom was a phlebotomist but it's my mom I refuse to ask her advice even though she knows I just can't do it I love and respect her 2 much so to keep it short and or the gist of it is that I know how to and what I need to do as far as prep it's the finding A mainline I need help with my usual spots are kind of blown Out

I am not sure what you are using them for? The swabs are for cleaning healthy skin before we insert an IV, for example

What are your thoughts on using iodine for irritated skin sores? Will iodine dry skin similar to alcohol?

How about using hydrogen peroxide and iodine? 🤔
@NurseMinder
@NurseMinder 2 жыл бұрын
Hydrogen peroxide kills good and bad tissues. Iodine can be used - with some caution (I believe I share some in this video)
