My son was diagnosed 10 years ago with depression and anxiety ocd, adhd, and possibly on the spectrum for autism. He has been in and out of psych wards he has cut his arms over 60 times he has been arrested twice he has been on different medication and different doctors. He has recently been diagnosed with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder. He is currently on Cymbalta, Remeron, and now Zyprexa. He has having delusions for the last two years that the FBI is following him with drones and they used to start out friendly and now they are persecutory and threatening to arrest him 24/7. The Zyprexa he’s been on for about four months and it’s not doing anything except making his vision very very blurry and he’s afraid he’s losing his eyesight now and it knocks him out for 13 hours or more and the delusions have gotten even worse. I have read so many books on different medication and have watched podcast and read medical journals and googled it on KZbin and it’s all an experiment with medication I know. But everything I read says Clozapine would be the best antipsychotic if he is a good candidate for it. Yes I know all the side effects of close the pain and some can be horrific and life-threatening but so are other antipsychotics. And you have to get your blood drawn every week for the first month or so and then every other week and then once a month and I know all the side effects. But the side effects of having these delusions 24 seven and my son crying nonstop and going insane and wanting to kill himself is the worst side effect ever. But I wanted to ask about the dissolvable Zyprexa. Would he be able to take this if he’s having a very bad attack of the delusions on top of his normal medication? And yes I will ask his doctor too. Thank you for all your help.

please try Niacin (Nicotinic acid). It is also called Vitamin B3. It helps greately for mental problems. Go to Amazon and get a book "Orthomolecular treatment for schizophrenia". It wil help your son greatly!! Taking medicines make it worse!!!

Man I had bad psychosis but that sounds really bad I should be praying for you guys. There's gotta be a reason why he feels that way, what hurts him emotionally. Also give him a healthy diet and try to get him to be phisically active. I am 100% recovered and in my 30ies.

You could try to supplement him with b vitamins and omega 3. Maybe, it helps to cope him with the side effects. Those drugs shouldn't be used in long-term treatment, anyway, and never cold-turkeyed or just switched. My mom was harmed by haloperidol injections (my dad died, they just knocked her out). I started supplementing her with it and she improved within a few months, she got some short affective psychosis every 2,3 days before because of the malpractice back then. Best wishes!

Take it yourself then you will know the truth, how psychiatry can force others to take something they have never taken themselves and wouldn't dare try. Chemical lobotomy drug as all antipsychotics are.

Olanzapine isn't really working for my 17 year old son. But after reviewing the side effects of other antipsychotic medication, I think I'll keep him on it.

Sadly the side effects of most antipsychotic medications vary so much! And they act differently in everyone. I would definitely recommend discussing that with your doctor though. Hope the video gave some good info!

I will be more happy if you can elaborate little more of the uses of combination of Olanzapine and flouoxetin combination. Where we can use it in combination.
@NurseRyan2 жыл бұрын
Hi, according to the FDA's document on the Olanzapine and Fluoxetine combination (revised 2011), also known by the brand Symbyax, it can be used for the "acute treatment of: • Depressive Episodes Associated with Bipolar I Disorder in adults • Treatment Resistant Depression (Major Depressive Disorder in adults who do not respond to 2 separate trials of different antidepressants of adequate dose and duration in the current episode)" I always recommend speaking to your primary healthcare provider or pharmacist for any actual medical advice, as they can give the best information that fits your case!

@@NurseRyan thank you very much your information. Be sure this is only for learning purpose. In India we generally sold combination therapy and I couldn't find any good references.

If this medication decreases dopamine and serotonin, would that not lead to mood decreasing symptoms? as those to chemicals when released help to make you less depressed?
@NurseRyan4 ай бұрын
Olanzapine is not typically used for depression on it's own. It is sometimes given for depression in combination with Fluoxetine (a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) which raises serotonin levels in the brain. Also, Olanzapine is not first-line for depression, however, it is used in patients with episodes of depression associated with bipolar disorder type 1 and treatment-resistant depression.

Olanzapine works for me at 5mg. 10mg made no improvement so we're staying at 5. Once the initial dizziness stopped the only side-effect is appetite. Hungry all the time! I was trying 5-HTP as an appetite suppressant but it turns out that works by increasing serotonin. So, 5-HTP is not for us. I'm looking into CLA and fiber pills.

same here went from 5mg to 10mg and found myself sleeping like almost all day on my days off of work . Going back to 5mg the weight gain made the doses hard to figure out.

i think there’s some medications that are coming out that are opioids i think that can be paired to help suppress the appetite. i forgot what they’re called tho unfortunately
@Work4Love3000 Жыл бұрын
I also tried Tesofensine for appetite control. It did nothing. It's not FDA approved yet and was a very expensive 2 month experiment. My psych suggested Garcinia Cambogia and it seems to be helping. And it's so much more affordable.

My psychiatrist prescribed me olanzapine For Insomnia but i DON'T have schizophrenia Or bipolar disorder
@NurseRyan2 жыл бұрын
Some quick research online brought me to an article titled "Treatment of paradoxical insomnia with atypical antipsychotic drugs" published in neurosciencesjournal.org [2013; Vol. 18 (1)]. The conclusion states that, "Atypical anti-psychotic drugs such as olanzapine and risperidone may be beneficial options for treatment of paradoxical insomnia. Larger clinical trials with longer periods of follow-up are needed for further investigation." I would definitely recommend speaking to your psychiatrist about it if you have any questions or concerns with being on this medication, as these videos are meant for educational purposes only. Hope that helps!

Sir do olanzapine comes under narcotics adictive drugs under ndps or not
@NurseRyan3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I can't say for sure, as I am not very familiar with the NDPS Act of India. However, I did find the following information from: THE NARCOTIC DRUGS AND PSYCHOTROPIC SUBSTANCES, ACT, 1985 (legislative.gov.in/sites/default/files/A1985-61.pdf). - Page 8: '"Psychotropic substance" means any substance, natural or synthetic, or any natural material or any salt or preparation of such substance or material included in the list of psychotropic substances specified in the Schedule' - Page 46-49 (the Schedule): I do not see any mention of Olanzapine (Zyprexa) listed here, but this document might be out of date. I will mention that many U.S. sources do refer to Olanzapine as a psychotropic substance. I hope that helps! - Ryan
