My niece had surgery on her spine a few years back. She was so hilarious when doped up after the surgery that the lady in the next section poked her head in and said she couldnt pay money at a comedy club to laugh as much. Niece was 12 or 13. Highlights include singing twinkle twinkle little star - VERY badly at the top of her lungs, she normally has a lovely singing voice - cried tears of joy over the popsicle that was now her best friend, cried tears of sadness once she realized shed eaten her best friend, and was extremely concerned if the surgeon had seen her "ass." (She normally didnt swear.) I wish i could recall all of it. Somewhere theres a video i have saved for a day when i need a good laugh.

As a child I made friends with a little foil wrapped molded chocolate nutcracker. It was one of those cheap seasonal chocolates typically for kids, but I got so upset thinking about eating my friend that I cried and saved him for probably a couple weeks. Same reaction to one of those large gummy rats some years later. It was so cute that I didn't want to hurt it. That was all without anesthesia though. 😅 I remember my mom being exasperated that I didn't just eat the darn things. That does sound pretty hilarious though. You know it's good when the other patients and nurses are laughing. At that age I'd probably have been concerned about the surgeon seeing my ass, too! 😂😂😂

I had a tonsillectomy and woke up from the anesthesia mid panic attack trying to swing on the nurses. Once I came to my senses I apologized so much that I probably got on their nerves. Another time I had a seizure related to a poisoning (long story) and the anti seizure medication made me so loopy for 2 days. I was not fully aware of anything I was doing until two days later. My brother told me I had pointed at my “fall risk” wrist band, laughed super hard at it, and passed out.

I actually DID get put under when I had my wisdom teeth removed at 16... My dad said on the way home, I was in the back floorboard apparently looking for my friggin teeth 😂 he told me they were left behind at the dentist office, to which I responded with an accepting groan and got back in the seat and passed out again.

I had mine out under general at 17 and a half (I remember because I got home and was like "I'm going to watch my first r-rated show exactly six months early and I only did it because mum actively encouraged it) but I'll have to ask my mum if I said anything goofy but I do distinctly remember complaining that my speech wasn't very clear because I couldn't open my mouth properly a few days later (it was still clear enough that I could be understood with ease but some sounds were a little dodgy)

I'm always extra polite to the nurses, even when I'm in a lot of pain (chronic pain makes you mindful of that), and I always try to be super nice to my nurses because they have things hard enough as is.

I picked up my MIL after surgery from a hospital in Los Angeles to drive the hour or so back to her house. Shes trying to tell me how to get back to the freeway and makes a mess of it, pauses a moment and says, "Go east!" I say, yes, well, we cant go west because of the ocean, and she concludes her revelation with, "Yes, go east... to St. Louis." Im glad she wasnt allowed to drive home.

Not a nurse, but a story my mother told me when I got some tubes put in my ears. I was 5 years old. I remember absolutely nothing about it, but apparently, right after waking up, I jumped onto my feet on the operating table, yelled "WE'RE GOING TO MCDONALD'S!!" Jumped to the bed, overshot it, and gave everyone a heart attack. A nurse caught me, albeit just barely. It was funny all around

Last year I was in for surgery. When I was waking up my brain went "Hey, you're due at the hospital today." I tried to sit up to get dressed, having forgotten everything that had happened that morning until the nurse told me I was okay.

I vaguely remember telling my OB/GYN while I was in labor to give me something for the pain so I could go home and sleep and I would be back in the morning to have the baby. He laughed and said, "Too late for that, you need to push!" Baby was born 10 minutes later.

When I had my wisdom teeth removed I predicted the future 😂. I told my mom that she needed to pick up the phone because Michaela was calling. Her phone rang a few seconds later and it was Michaela. Then the same day, my cousin Caitlyn was watching me. I told her I had to use the restroom. She came with me because I could still barely stand, when I got in the bathroom I yelled to her: “take your pants off! I can’t use the bathroom if your pants are still on!” 😂 Most recently, about a year ago, I had a hysterectomy. When I was coming out I apparently was, quite loudly, saying how they had taken my babies. My mom kept having to tell me to shut up. I also remember quite well singing to my mom how beautiful she was. 😂

Patient here! I had a hysterectomy in November of 2020. I remember thinking the drugs weren’t gonna work cuz when I had a mole removed in the 90s, I felt everything and it was very painful. As I was coming down from anesthesia, my twin told me I started meowing Christmas carols and telling the guy next to me to “shut the fuck up” cuz he was groaning and screaming. I told a few jokes too apparently.

i had my wisdom teeth removed last week. i was so nervous i was gonna say something stupid. all i remember is waking up (i must have slept after surgery was done because i was in fetal position when i regained consciousness?) and saying “i miss my kitty” then i giggled for a couple minutes. my mom thought it was really funny and i was just relieved i talked about my cat instead of saying anything weird or stupid 😭 the nurses ended up sending me home with a hand written "get well soon" card with little doodles which i thought was really sweet ❤

I have two prosthetic eyes. I think when I was little, it was one of many surgeries that I’ve had, this one being an operation to take some skin from the inside of my mouth to help re-create part of my lower, right eyelid, which would collapse and/or fuse because of extra radiation treatment left parent cancer in both my retinas when I was a kid right parent. I think I was around seven or eight at the time, I kind of remember this, I’m not sure I remember the more extreme parts of it. Apparently, when I woke up, I kept asking my mom for a salmon sandwich, and apparently I got really worked up about it. Either that night or not too long after that day, my mom Gave me not a smoked salmon sandwich, but cold, smoked salmon on cream cheese on crackers. It used to be a treat in our family, and we will occasionally make it whenever we have the supplies together. I would recommend it if anyone would want to try it.

Patient here. I had brain surgery... after waking up, I washallucinating pretty hard. I kept telling the nurses that the extradimensional beings are peaceful, and they only ended up in my brain by accident, and that I need to talk to "the general" to clear it up. I also promised them I'm not going to try to escape. Also made some kiiinda inappropriate jokes... In the coming days I kept having various hallucinations and delusions. I kept getting caught going to the bathroom alone when I was supposed to only get out of bed if a nurse is escorting me (balance problems), and on one occasion I a hallucination basically convinced me that it's OK to try and remove my urinary catheter myself (hint: that was a very bad idea.) Took me a whole week for the hallucinations to go away, and thinking back there are still several events I remember where I'm unable to tell if it was real or not. Scary.

I got my wisdom teeth taken out several years ago. They put me under with anesthesia, and somehow when I woke up, I felt perfectly fine. I tried to get up and walk, but they forced me into a wheelchair. When I got into my dad's truck, I asked him to take me to school, but he said no. I went to church later that day though and everyone looked at me like I was insane. It was only a few hours after my operation when I went. Nobody knew how I was functional afterwards.

So, after my C-section, I didn't wake up for 9 hours. As I was waking up, the nurse was laughing hysterically. I asked her what I said, but she just shook her head, wiping tears. A couple months later I had to have my gall bladder removed. The day before surgery my mom had made breakfast and asked me what I wanted. I said, 'pancakes'. So, cut to the next day when I'm walking up in my room. As I'm walking up I yelled 'Pancakes!' My mom was cracking up.

The sign language one reminded me of the time I got my wisdom teeth out. I tried to speak to the nurse/my mom and couldn't, so I tried to use finger spelling sign language but couldn't remember a single letter, and then tried to write, and my handwriting was completely illegible. I have no idea what I was trying to say, but perhaps it was for the best I couldn't communicate.

I had my tubes removed a couple years ago. I kept slipping in and out of consiousness, but when i was awake, it was really difficult to gather the energy to talk, so I mostly stayed quiet. That is until one nurse mentioned a nail polish company that was a known multi-level marketing scheme. I felt it was extremely important to warn her about that company, so i mustered up the energy to slowly say "That company...is...an mlm." "Oh, like a pyramid scheme?" "Yeah." "Ah, yeah, those suck." I'm a total movie geek, and I had a bad fall and broke my ankle and fibula. When I got done with my 1st surgery and was in recovery, I told my fiancee, "They can rebuild me. They have the technology." Apparently the nurses couldn't take it when they heard this. When I got my walking cast and stood on my foot for the first time in months, I stood up and said, "Mein Fuhrer, I can walk!" Thumbs up if you know what both these quotes are from!

Hey @Undersparked - The medicine you're talking about at 5:23 - isn't "versed" rhyming with "cursed" it is said "Ver- SAID" (ver rhymes w fur here). Just in case you ever have to talk to a doc or a nurse. :) IT does make us laugh when patients do that though. :)

The one my pharmacists and medical team seem to always get wrong is propranolol. Seems easy to me, but they always seem to say "po-pan-ah-nol". Close, but wrong. To me it's like people saying expresso. No, the coffee isn't in a rush, even if you are. 🤭 Also, dilauded is usually pronounced die-LAH-did.

When I got my wisdom teeth removed, I went full under. One moment I was on the table, next moment I was in the wheelchair being brought to my mom's car. Before the surgery I turned off my phone. Of course, being a gen z, I pulled my phone out and turned it on first thing after getting buckled in. My first notification? An offer for a job position I had interviewed for the previous week, my first ever full time job. I was so excited I forgot to reply to it using my professional email, so the HR manager now knows what a stupid email address I use. Still there two years later, even with the company being bought out.

I had an appendectomy yesterday and when coming off of my anesthesia I couldn't seem to use the right words for things and kept pronouncing things wrong. The nurse kept laughing at my attempts to talk. In a less funny way a lot of what I was saying was how much my stomach hurts and begging for painkillers. That was the first thing I noticed waking up, the hurt.

For the longest time I thought I've never been asleep by anesthesia, but apparently I kind of was during my birth. My mom wanted to follow her pregnancy with me with a private institution, and she told me that, because the doctor wanted to go on a vacation, they forced my birth a week earlier (it was the late 80's). So they did a caesarean section on her, and for that they gave her anesthesia. The thing is, the operation had some complications, and according to my father, one of the doctors started screaming "hurry up!! The anesthesia is reaching the baby!!" (me). It seems I was half asleep when they took me out of the womb, and lucky for me I quickly gasped for air instead of completely falling asleep. My mom had a difficult time waking up, because as she was falling asleep, one of the nurses put a cloth over her face, and when she was waking up she thought she was suffocating and had a panic attack. All in all, I hope that doctor had a good vacation, because I've been cursing his ass for almost 37 years.

Two stories from me, the patient. 1) 3 Impacted Wisdom teeth removal. Took something to take the edge off an hour before the procedure and got very loopy while in line at Best Buy with my mom. Then I'm there for the surgery, the doctor administers the anesthesia and asks how my day was going. I say "Well, Bush..." Next thing I know, I'm waking up on the couch in my living room, alone, crying and asking for mom. My brother comes in from school and calls mom, who's in line at the Pharmacy for my meds (she was literally gone for 10 minutes xD) and I just kept crying "You left me you left me" over and over again. (According to her, I was able to walk from the car to the living room, and spoke to her that I was going to be okay while she went to grab my meds. I remember NONE of this...) 2) Rotator cuff repair. I'm in recovery and the nurse asks me how I'm doing. "Poop." I say. "Poop? Do you need to poo?" "Poop." "Hang on, let me get a pan-" "POOP." We got it situated just in time... but yeah, to anyone else in the recovery area... my bad.

I imagine asking for food is fairly common, especially since before surgery you often have to abstain from eating. I know when I first woke up after my gallbladder removed, when asked how I was feeling my reply was "Hungry"

I had my final gallbladder attack that started on Feb. 13th around 8pm and continued through Feb 14. The pain was relentless, and my husband took me to the hospital when he saw how bloated my stomach was. They did an ultrasound that showed up gallstones. After more testing I was admitted. They operated on me the next night. They said that when they told me I had had the surgery I told them,"Yeah, yeah. Enough already."

I had surgery on both of my big toes one separate occasions, I can't tell apart which was which, but I was knocked out completely both times. That was because I was used to still feel stuff when only local anesthesia was used. After I woke up I vaguely remember just staring at the ceiling waiting for a nurse in sight, i then told her i was thirsty and hungry. She then told me my mother had brought me stuff while I was under. It was just a 0.5l bottle of carbonated apple juice(?) and an already cold grilled pork-cheese-bread thing, but I am telling you that was the best food I have ever eaten. I demolished both of those things in only a few minutes. I also needed help finding my glasses. Later when my mom came she told me, when I had been given the anesthesia I had been continually asking the doctor what they were doing until I passed out. lmao

I pretty much just said “I want my teeth back” because I forgot to tell them before I went under for wisdom teeth surgery. Didn’t get any loopyness other than feeling like someone just disturbed my sleep. Going under, I didn’t say anything as I was taking mental notes about the experience. They put me on laughing gas beforehand cause I was panicked about the needle.

I have one I was getting a procedure done in which I would have to giving powerful meds to keep me calm and sleepy and they said that the medication could give me weird dreams so I told them that a few days before I had a dream where I was in the Planet of the Apes telling them as they give me said medication I don't need these meds to have weird dreams as I started to feel drowsy one of the doctors said "I now want to wake her up with a monkey mask." with me still being awake enough to hear that I reply "If you do that I'll sue for emotional damage.". I'm glad that doctor had a sense of twisted humor.

One of my college housemates had her wisdom teeth extracted. Coming out of the anesthetic, she was still half under. She’d had a dream that Jesus had returned. Looking at the oral surgeon, she mumbled, “He didn’t take you, either!”

I don't know if this counts since the patient wasn't human, but was rather my dog, but I do have one. So my dog, about to be 4, is a very anxious baby, who is also convinced she is a lapdog (she's a standard golden doodle and about 55 lbs). When we got her spayed, we stuck her in a Pride shirt that was a little too small for me (it had the word Human written in various LGBTQA+ flags) and gave her an inflatable collar to stop her from licking the stitches, so no cone of shame. For most of her first night, she spent curled up in her crate (we call it her room, and it's her safe space because no one can get to her in there and it has blankets all over the floor of it). However, while stoned out of her mind, something spooked her (can't remember if it were internal or external stimuli) and she bolted out of her crate, out of my room, and over to this big red chair my mom was in. My dog proceeds to climb into my mother's lap and loses complete control of her bowels. She is normally very good about potty training, getting it before she was 6 months, with only a couple bladder accidents when super excited, so this was not anything we expected at all. My mother had poop on her, down her shirt, even between the seat back and her back, it was every where. I actually still have a picture of my poor baby staring wide eyed at the camera while my mom is being squished under her teddy bear of a fur baby. Even funnier is that, our other dog at the time never learned potty training so regularly went inside, and Mom's partner stepped in some of the poop. He tried to complain to Mom about it (since that dog was definitely *her* dog), only to be met with a deadpan death glare before Mom stripped off her clothes to go take a shower. This is why we caution our vet on any meds that will make our poor girl loopy. She loves her monthly flea meds and daily allergy meds though. Acts like they're treats.

She’s also a Covid Puppy so we didn’t get her properly socialized until like a year ago, when our newest pup (cavapoo who has only recently learned stranger danger and even then it doesn’t stick) had puppy class and the trainer let us bring our anxious teddy bear. Also her name is Molly, which I jokingly say is short for Molotov.

I had my first surgery last year (appendix removal after a stomach bug) I remember waking up and getting the attention of a nurse. She kept asking me how I was feeling but I'd just answer with wanting my mum and nothing else. (I'm Autistic and was anxious waking up in a different room with my mum not in it.) Don't know if I said it out loud but as I was being wheeled out I may have kept saying "wheeeeeeeee!" Real quiet. I don't remember what I had been saying on the car ride home I just remember my mum laughing. I was happy yet also extremely tired as I ate kfc mash potatoes and Mac n cheese. I belive I was also one of the first patients to have the surgery done by a special robot controlled by a doctor in that hospital. Tho now I'm a bit self conscious about my surgery scars.

Everytime i come out of anesthesia, i revert to a child mindset and cry for my dad. My youngest brother was with me at one of them, and he was laughing his butt off and talking to dad over the phone. I kept calling my dad "daddy." I hate that word so much and i cringed. Like i didnt use it sexualy cause i was reffering to my actual dad, but ugh.

I have a couple personal stories, but they're quite tame. After my colonoscopy/endoscopy procedure I remember getting really excited about getting graham crackers and apple juice. I hadn't had either in years and they were super appealing at the time. I was very thankful for cranberry juice and excited upon peeing after a minor surgery a few yrs ago as I couldn't leave until I did, lol. 😅 The nurse had to hunt for a cranberry juice as it's not a popular flavor, and they didn't typically stock it. She found one and I remember thanking her a bunch. Doesn't take much to make me happy, I guess. 😂 After a different surgery I asked for a backscratch as the meds made me itchy af and neither of my arms were free. The nurse recognized my name as we had been neighbors when I was a kid. She laughed at the question but obliged as a "favor for a former neighbor." She also kindly turned the lights out as my head hurt, it was just us there, and she could see the monitors fine by the safety lights. I didn't ask her to do that, but it was nice. I don't think I ever said or did anything particularly funny beyond that unfortunately, lol. My family members all seem to handle anesthesia pretty well. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I had some baby teeth removed because they didn't come out on their own and the adult teeth grew in right behind them. I was on laughing gas and at some point, I just yelled, "I'm flying!". My body was going sort of numb, so I felt like I was floating, and I said it so loudly because I couldn't hear myself very well.

Now, I’ve had anesthesia for minor surgery and several routine procedures so my medical staff knows I don’t have the best track record with anesthesia, as I either can’t go deep enough under or go under fine but take forever to wake up again. Just had my first major surgery in January. Was supposed to be under for about 2 hrs. I went under easy and quicker than they anticipated. But it took me double the time to wake up. And apparently I woke up crying, thrashing around, and screaming “I can’t handle this! It hurts so much! I normally have a really high pain tolerance but I can’t handle this! It’s too much! Please, it’s too much!” Apparently I was alert enough to remember this and the fact that my recovery nurses were arguing with each other about my screaming. Between saying my name and trying to get me to open my eyes, they had the following exchange with each other: N1- She’s been screaming this for over an hr. I don’t know what to do. N2- give her (drug name) N1- I’ve given her everything they told me too and nothing is phasing her. We can’t let her leave recovery like this. N2- high drug tolerance as well as a high pain tolerance apparently.. N1- actually no. She’s never had pain killers in her life. Liver. I have no idea why they aren’t working. N2- We have to call (my surgeon). N1- (assuming she’s on the phone to my surgeon) Yes, I’ve given her that. And that. Yep that too. Over an hour. Not alert enough to engage with us. Still closed. You’ll have to sign off on that. Okay. I guess the pain was too much at that point because I don’t remember the rest of the exchange. Don’t remember getting more drugs. I do remember waking up as I was being wheeled out of recovery and down the hospital hallway. I was fully awake and alert. I sat up and asked the nurses if I could use the restroom and they wheeled the bed to the bathroom. A male nurse helped me out of the bed and into the bathroom and asked if I needed assistance. I said no so he walked outside while I emptied my bladder. Once I was back in the hallway, he helped me back into the bed and said he was shocked how steady I was on my feet. Apparently I should have been very off-balance. As they wheeled me into my hospital room, he told me that I was the most coherent heavily drugged patient he’d ever seen. Apparently I acted like I didn’t have any drugs in my system at all. So how long was I unconscious/screaming? My surgery started shortly after 8am and I was in recovery by 10am. I was finally brought into my hospital room fully alert about 3pm. It took them 5hrs to get my pain under control and for me to wake up. Despite being heavily drugged out of my mind, I was completely my normal self the rest of the day. I even made rapid progress, ticking off all the after-surgery recovery goals like I’d never even had surgery.

I’ve always been told that coming out of oral surgery, you may cry as an effect of the anaesthesia. But when I got my wisdom tooth out (only ever had one to remove, but that was partly due to my other three oral surgeries for cysts) I couldn’t stop giggling. The staff all looked so pleased about it and I was weirdly proud. Kinda funny too because I’ve always been something of a contrarian and too much of a pessimist. When my son got his out, he had too much gauze in his mouth to say anything, but he did use his phone to text, “Where are my glasses?” He was wearing them.

After I woke up from a surgery to remove a plate and screw set from my ankle since the wound refused to close. So I wake up with the nurses reassuring me didn’t have a seizure. So I’m guess I was freak out thinking I’d had one: I have epilepsy. I hope I didn’t try to fight anyone or something.

i’ve had to go under for three different procedures and the first two times i came out relatively okay (wisdom teeth - i started asking if i could have the extracted teeth and i got really sad when they told me they tossed them already) but the third time,,, dear lord that third time. i have no idea what they put me on that was different but i felt like i had absolutely no anxiety and when the nurse wrapped me up in a blanket i just yelled “i’m the phantom of the opera!” and started humming music of the night while rocking back and forth by a window 😂😭

I had skin cancer removed from my face, and whatever they gave me was the best stuff ever! As the doctor described it, it doesn't make you sleep, it just makes you not care about anything. So, during the procedure, while they were waiting for lab results to come back, Ithe surgeon is talking about where he's going for lunch, and the directions he had to get there. I realized his directions were wrong, so, lying there with part of my upper cheek gaping wide open, I corrected him and gave him the right directions. And I wasn't even unconscious - i remember the whole thing - just in a beautifully not caring state.

I forgot how to breathe. like I couldn't feel my diaphragm, couldn't feel the air going in and out, so I panicked and thought I was in space or something. I actually remember parts of the surgery (emergency appendectomy). no pain, just remember feeling like there was a bunch of people around me, and everything was cold, then someone pulled on my stomach from different angles, leaving it stretched, a tugging sensation. also said to my mom after surgery that I became a balloon and laughed a lot, followed immediately by hyperventilating and whispering that I couldn't breathe. then going right back to trying to move my toes and laughing at how they felt like huge balloons instead of fingers.

Got put under for an endoscopy. When I woke up, the male nurse came in to remove the wires from the heart monitor stickers. I gave him the side eye and asked "So you don't wanna touch my boob?" Then apparently I remembered I was hungry and turned to my mom and went "Are we going to the gay bar??" There isn’t a gay bar where we live. We had been talking about a restaurant that was owned by a lesbian. The male nurse was very disappointed that there wasn't actually a gay bar. Explains why he wouldn't touch my boob ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

not me, but as the patient, the doc doing my wisdom teeth extractions. _a little backstory... two things i didn't know at the time and neither did the surgical team... i'm a natural dark ginger when out of the sun. at the time, i had my hair dyed teal. second thing is i had a health condition that apparently ate through any drugs put into my systems... something to do with either my heart and/or my having untreated diabetes._ when i was in the middle of a really nasty operation to have four impacted wisdom teeth removed, i woke up to hearing the dude working on me swearing, "oh sh*t That's not supposed to happen...!" after which i nearly aspirated on my own hurf. i had Not eaten before the operation; (as i was instructed) i was throwing up stomache acid. one of many times i nearly had my ticket punched. [shakes head] i'm doing a bit better now that i have various things nailed down and under treatment. ^^;;

I don't think I said anything silly coming out of anesthesia myself. Except when I had my wisdom teeth removed and instead of answering questions I drooled blood all over myself. I did have a really funny reaction to the pain meds when I had my first kidney stone. I wasn't moving from the ball I had curled myself into for an MRI so my nurse mom made them give me something for pain and it was wonderful. My face turned bright red and the ceiling started to melt. I then exclaimed to the nurses that I clearly didn't do drugs because I felt great. I also had a fun wheelchair ride to the MRI room.

I had an emergency appendectomy when I was in high school, and had my gallbladder removed last year when it kept developing gall stones. Both times I remember waking up in the recovery room afterward asking "can I see it?". I don't remember if I got to see my appendix, but I _did_ get to look at my gallbladder, floating in a little jar. I remember thinking both "that's dope af," and, "so this is the little pos that won't let me eat spice", but I don't know which one I said.

Not a nurse but a patient: Last year, I had surgery to remove a growth (squamous cell carcinoma, yay) from the top of my head. I remember the anesthesiologist saying they were going to take care of me real good. And the next thing I remember is being held down by several nurses while being rolled down the hallway. I was trying to fight them off. In my mind, they kept knocking all the ducks I had created in my Excel spreadsheet, and the poor duckies just couldn't get a break. In reality, I was suffocating. I guess however they had placed me on the gurney post-op (trying to keep my head vertical to keep pressure off the 4" graft on top of my head) cut off my airway. When I came too enough, I stopped struggling enough they relaxed their grip. I moved just enough to be able to get a little breathing going. I told the post-op nurse monitoring me what happened so they would at least know. She said not to worry about it (the violent response, no comment on the not being able to breathe bit), that it happened every day.

I had three kidney stone surgeries last year. Stent and two lithotripsies. I found out when fully awake that I had attacked the surgery nurse. The next two surgeries they gave me some “calming medication” before going into the operating room.

The only time I was under was when I got my wisdom teeth removed and the only thing that happened was a craving for a big tasty bacon from Mc Donald’s. Took a few days till I could even slowly eat something like that again without using my tongue as the main way too „shew“. So I waited a week and a few days but it was definitely worth it to wait till my full eating ability came back so I could fully enjoy it Kinda like 4:36 but I waited longer Oh yeah. I also asked my mother who was with me to hold my hand while I was slowly regaining control over my body. I’m honestly suprised that my voice came back before the ability to open my eyes 23:56 nah. I only ate again on the second day after the surgery, and it was only a very tiny bit of very watery soup.

Turns out i woke up just weeping and balling my eyes out. A sweet nurse lady was stroking my head to comfort me. i had a surgery on my stomach years ago. When i woke up afterwards still heavily under anesthesia meds the nurse handed me a button, she told me press the button if it hurts. well it hurt so i pressed the button, instant dry heaving, which made it hurt.... so i pushed the button. after 3 button hits my mom (who is also a nurse) got the button away from me and called the staff for a different pain medication. i still laugh sharing this story

Just had all four of my wisdom teeth out at once about a month ago. I'm a wimp and wanted the nitrous oxide as well as the general anaesthesia. As I was going under I think the last thing I said was "I see why people use this recreationally now." Actually coming out wasn't nearly as funny, I just really heavily craved ravioli. As the nurse pulled out the tube from my hand though, quite roughly, I took out a text to speech on my phone (didn't want to talk too much) and this AI voice just told her "that felt a little sadistic".

When they doped me up with fentanyl I blacked out and apparently we had to pull over and switch drivers with my sisters driver bc I made the medic cry bc I was complaining about her driving and I was screaming and all that great stuff 😅 to this day I still want to find her and apologize 🥺 bc there's no telling what I said 😔 😅 My sister on the other hand was flirting extra hard with her paramedic and nurses 😂😂😂 she was 15/16 at the time 💀

When I was 17, I had 3 brain surgeries over the course of a few months to remove a very involved and serious brain tumor. Well, after my first and rather unsuccessful brain surgery, I was in the ICU with my grandmother by my side and meeting this doctor. He, very seriously, was discussing the possibility of my tumor being malignant meaning cancer and that we need to wait for pathology. I spoke, still coming out of it and on pain meds, said 🥴 “I understand you’re a doctor but I disagree with you. I do not think my body would do this to me and give me cancer, it’s just not something I could do to myself. I respect your opinion but I don’t agree.” He was fighting so hard to hold back his laughter while my grandmother was laughing to herself. I turned to her and said, “excuse me, this is a very serious moment. I don’t understand what you find so funny stop laughing!!” Which made them laugh even more before I turned back to my to be oncologist, reiterating why I didn’t feel I had cancer. Almost 10 years later and cancer free and it still cracks us up 😂

Patiently waiting for my own anaesthesia story as with my luck, I'm bound to get one someday. For now though, all I've got is just reacting interestingly to what I think was supposed to be local anaesthetic because I was six and had a head wound that needed stitching (fell off a ladder onto another--not a long story, but a wild one to ponder!), and it was just supposed to numb things and chill me out whilst they closed my head up. I went right fully under and didn't wake up for an hour (by Mum's recalling, in any case) and I couldn't walk straight for the rest of the day. You know, thinking on it, I probably had a concussion. If the remaining dent in my head fourteen odd years later suggests anything, in any case. But according to Mum it wasn't mentioned, so I guess we'll find out when the day finally comes that I have to go in for surgery :P

I wanna tell my story of what happened after I woke up from my wisdom teeth removal. Nothing really that interesting happened when I first woke up. I did ask them if I had time traveled but that’s not the funny part. So my mom brought me to the car, and we drove to the hospital to pick up my prescription for whatever. She left me in the car in the parking garage, thinking I wouldn’t be able to do anything because I would have no service…. (Jokes on her I somehow managed to get service) This was during 2020 when we had all those online classes. Anyways, I was on my phone when I realized that my chemistry class was currently in session. And my loopy a$$ decided that was the perfect time to join the class. I don’t know how this ended up happening, but I started singing to the class. Just picture this…. A random teenage girl with a swollen face, ice packs strapped to their cheeks, and blood dripping from their mouth singing “My Heart Will Go Onnnn” I was so embarrassed after that I refuse to join the class for the rest of the semester 🫣 Please NEVER leave someone alone unattended after anesthesia…they might do some dumb shit like this 😂

Not sure it counts but when my fiancé (then bf) had to be drugged to relocate his shoulder they made me leave the room. they warned me he wouldn’t make sense when he came to, and I could tell they were concerned he would say things that were bad or not true. When it was done and I came back in the room, his eyes lit up and he excitedly exclaimed “hi! I love you” with the biggest smile on his face. The doctors and nurse were all like “awww”. I have the most earnest partner and I love him.

I have a pretty funny story. When i was 16, I went into surgery to have my tonsils removed. My mom and I thought of a funny prank to pull on the doctors: when they ask "what surgery are you here for," one time I would respond with "gender reassignment surgery." Alls well, the doc gave us a confused look before we told him we were kidding. Coming out of anesthesia, in my haze, I grabbed my junk and profusely asked anyone in the nearby area if I had a p3nis. And when I was coming out, I started crying and screaming for my mama, and started shaking, and then I got covered by warm blankets, was wheeled back to my room, after the recovery nurse fed me a blue slushy. My middle brother (I’m the oldest of 3 boys) had surgery at age 8 cause he had a hernia. Initially coming out of the surgery, they let him play the Duck 🦆 Hunter on the original Nintendo gaming system. After then getting the okay to take him home, my parents heard him say “Ginger better not be laughing at me like that Dog on Duck Hunter. It was my first time playing the game” (Ginger was our dog {a full sized Chow}). When he got inside the house, he had no memory of having said then and snuggled up with her until he went back to sleep.
