I bought malpractice insurance the day I received my RN license. Don’t think your hospital or employer is going to protect you. They are only going to protect their own interests and will throw you to the wolves if they think it will get them off the hook. Just look at the poor nurse Vanderbilt abandoned several years ago. You have to protect yourself and be prepared.

So true. It's pathetic.

The reality is...your job does NOT care about its employees. So if you make an error...its best to be a person of integrity and document it yourself. Relying on the job to save you will be the quickest way to be burned. If the professional is a kiss ass...then they will protect their own. Every job a nurse goes on, they have to represent themselves as an independent contractor, even if that's not the case. The really good nurses will stand out and be mobbed on the job by all the insecure ones. Hence why most employees strongly dislike agency nurses. If you are good and truly there to help, many days will be a nightmare, but the reward for not giving in to the messed up culture is worth it. Extra security on one self by a solid company wouldn't hurt.

Unfortunately, that is the reality of it all. This is especially present in larger organizations

I just saw your older video where you said you did a MEPN degree and got a PMH certificate which exactly what I was thinking. I'm juggling going DNP+FNP after I finish my MSN or just doing the certification. What advice would you give in 2023?

Of course you need malpractice. Don't listen to the fools that tell you "if you have malpractice that just means they'll go after you" or '"your company has malpractice for you". Your company does NOT care about you. They will do whatever it takes to protect themselves, even if that means throwing you under the bus. I've seen it first hand multiple times.

Thank you and I totally agree with you when it comes to huge corps and that they only care for themselves

Anyone have any experience with CM&F? My employer uses them so I was hoping to get some feedback from someone who has used them. Thank you in advance.

do you have professional liability insurance on yourself, just your PLLC, or both?

I have one for company and one for myself, but I’m a group now, but when I was solo, I had it for myself only and just added my corp as an additional insured
