Wow, I don’t know how you believe, but God totally used you and this video to speak to me! Math is not a strong suit for me, and neither is science. I recently got accepted to nursing school and decided to put it off for a semester because of the math and the entrance exam I didn’t do as well with the math. You really encouraged my souI . I know putting yourself out there and speaking of weaknesses, downfalls and mistakes is not easy. I am so glad you allowed yourself to do this. You are very humble! THIS is what has STOPPED me year after year after year until i just gave up. Im now 30yrs old and while im scared im going to try again i cant count on one hand how many times ive given up!!🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️ I never was good at math and this has stopped me in life soooooo much my parents weren’t good either and my dad yelled and threatened me when i couldn’t get a math problem right or remember when i was a small child in elementary school so my brain is forever traumatized and this fear never went away!

Seriously, thank you for this video. I've been considering going to nursing school but have felt extremely reluctant because I was never very proficient in math (huge understatement) and only somewhat decent in science. I'm definitely going to do my best to brush up on math/algebra basics before the start of the term. Again, thank you. I really needed to know that it was possible to be a nurse without having a strong background in math. For a long time I figured that math was an innate talent--something some people were naturally good at and others weren't. In hindsight I realize that that was something I convinced myself to believe so it wouldn't bother me so much when I had to put serious effort into something other people breezed through. Once again, thanks!

I think that other classes were easy to you after taking math, Your brain got train to think harder and math being one of the harder subjects made it possible. I'm an engineering student and I had to take some math classes more than once, but now every other class looks so easy. Even my job use to be a pain since I have to use some algebra and geometry, but now I do it without even thinking about it. Oh I'm a carpenter by the way. Good video.

I love your vids and all the helpful advice you offer! I'm really bad at math too and was worried about it because as a nurse calculating something wrong could be very dangerous. We just blew through pharm and med-math in 17 days! is that normal? We learned the DA calculations and they were really easy, just like you were demonstrating. But I suggest people watch vids on DA calculations before getting into nursing school because even though it's really simple, once you are under the stress of school it will be harder. Just memorize the formula, there are only a couple of things to memorize and you will ace med-math!

I am a community college math professor ie the *obstacle* in many people’s dream of becoming a nurse (not that I put them in that course ;-) As you can imagine, I get a lot of nursing candidates who are frustrated about having to struggle through something they don’t think relates to their career plans. I know I will share your video with some of them because you have the right attitude about it. I am actually working on a book to try to inspire people to persist through the math portion of their college program (not nurse specific) and I hope I will be as inspiring as you. I admire how you seem to have considered going through life content with relying on your other attributes, but eventually came to want more. (You didn’t want to say your looks, but it’s obvious to anyone watching ;-) One great thing about your video too is when you talk about all the extraneous information in a real life scenario. Of course you’re right! But god forbid I put numbers in a word problem that you don’t “need”! Anyway, great video and I’m sure I will be sharing it.

Same I had learning issues and I was just diagnosed with ADD three mouths ago. I always get tired and wasn't motivated to do stuff and felt depressed and I couldn't stay focused and it was hard for me to learn math and felt like my brain didn't care about important aspects in life. But now I'm on medication for my ADD and everyday I'm getting better and I'm now in nursing school.

Hi! I have the same math struggles. I really want to help people and be a nurse, maybe even travel to other countries to help. My problem, however, is that in HS I was an average student but I've never had to struggle or really ever try hard. So now in college, I struggle with determination and self doubt. I am not good at math and science, while interesting, can sometimes go over my head. I do, however, want to help people, especially children. I love your videos thanks for sharing. I am 20 years old and a mother of a two year old and I wanted to be a labor and delivery nurse my whole life. I am trying to get into nursing school. I have one year left of prerequisites. I have the options to get my ADN at the community college or my BSN transfer to a University since I can get both done in four years I wanted to get my BSN, but the only difference is the BSN you take another harder level of math before being accepted. Once I knew that I got scared and wanted to go for my ADN and not try for my BSN. This video has helped me very much I still am scared because I don't know if the BSN nursing school is harder than the ADN program. I have a good GPA because I have been working my butt off, but I don't know if I can do good in Nursing school also because I also have another responsibility. Many people have told me you need a BSN to be in the labor and delivery, Is this true? Thanks again for your videos you inspire me!

These are really simple dosage calculations. I am a CMA and the calculations I dealt with in medical assisting school were much more challenging.

Hi, I was wondering after all the prereqs math which are the Algebra and Statistic, aside from your example, is there any complicated math? Its not like a super rocket project right? coz the advisor gave me a sample curriculum, and I know on drugs we have to do some dosage calculation, and from your own perspective, are the College Algebra and statistic far harder than the nursing math/dosage calculation when we get to the actual Nursing Program? Your response would mean soo much thank you :)

+chelzhi Hi love! In my opinion it is just as you said... the prerequisites were much harder than the nursing math. The only thing you have to early hours out for is making sure you read the questions very carefully. They can be tricky to read 😊 With lots of practice questions you will be able to do this 😉 I hope this helps!! xoxo - Caroline

***** Hi Caroline, Thank you so much for your help. Whew! that gave me a breathe of air LOL.. I am just not fan of math, and I'd rather read BIO than math, ( if u know what I mean). I know, I am already doing my college algebra and I never had any level lower than that, I was placed there right away so I am actually taking it by it self, Like I said, I'm honest about the classes that I know I am suffering. I usually looked up the syllabus of my classes, and then looked how the class looks like. Whew I guess the next math problem I will seeing will be for dosage, and hopefully by that time, I will be okay at it hehe.. I'm planning on getting all my remaining prereqs done by summer of 2016 :) and on to to applying for the program :) Thank you so much..

I will be starting nursing school next semster Jan 2014. I was wondering if which method is best to use in dosage calculations because my school did not want us to use dimention analysis AT ALL only colon method and fraction method. which do you think is better (aka what form do nurses use the the hospital now)? **Question #2 Can you do a video explaining all the formulas in a form of a chart and explain when we are to use what formula especially IV calcuation.** Thanks!!
