one tip! I had an instructor tell us that while its cute to wear around your neck, the oils from your skin mess up the tubing over time! also, don't keep it in your car because the heat will mess it up too.

I’m a nursing student right now! The manual BP cuff is a must, it’s such a good skill to have that a lot of people forget! I’m a huge fan of the white board, and flash cards. So easy to whip out and review on the bus or waiting for coffee or between classes. If you can, make a Facebook group with your classmates to help with assignments, tests, study notes, etc. I’ve also been very bad at hospital clinical with taking supplies home, so while I didn’t buy any bandage scissors, tape, swabs, etc I have a lot now! And a good insulated water bottle! My hospital is so dry and I can fill my bottle up with ice and water and it’s still freezing cold 12 hours later. Congratulations on starting nursing school!!! It’s a big challenge and a lot of work, but it’s so rewarding and fulfilling! Now I’m going to stop procrastinating and get back to studying for my test tomorrow 💕✨

I'm in my second year of nursing school and I would really recommend a huge notebook and flash cards (or make flashcards on quizlet). There is so much information that you will be expected to know so I make flashcards and I study them whenever and where ever. I prefer to write them so I can take them out to study at a given moment but quizlet is great too! I also carry a massive reusable water bottle with me where ever I go because the day can be so busy so it's important to stay hydrated. Also just wanted to say that self care is so important. Nursing school will test you and take you to your breaking point and beyond but don't forget to relax and remember that you can do this. Congrats on getting into nursing school and good luck!

Your video was in my recommended videos and I just wanted to say good luck with nursing school! I am going into my last semester of nursing school and it is hard, but I love every minute of it! The biggest thing I can recommend you get in addition to what you have already gotten are nclex review books, saunders, lippincott, hesi, whatever you can get your hands on and download one of the nclex review apps to your tablet or phone. They are so helpful for studying. The review books are broken down by topics, especially the lippincott ones, so it makes studying really easy. I find doing questions related to what I am learning in class helpful prep for exams, since they try to ask questions in nclex style at my school. Plus it helps prep you for ati or hesi, whichever you have in your program. Also, the more questions you do, the better prepared you will be for boards, it is never too early to start! And the best advice I can give you is just remember to breath. They throw a lot at you and it can get overwhelming, stay organized and just take a step back and breath. It is tough, but you will get through it! Good luck on your way to becoming a nurse!

love love seeing videos with this much passion!! I'm heading into my senior year of nursing school and I still remember being this excited about it. one thing I found super helpful throughout last year was the Saunders comprehensive review for the NCLEX exam. its a book that breaks down every chapter you have in all of your arts and science of nursing classes. it also has a ton of practice questions too. I highly recommend investing in it (I think its like $50) and it'll last you throughout nursing school!!! best of luck, girl!!

Just wanted to comment and say congrats to you for starting your nursing journey! I just graduated and passed my NCLEX and have been working as a real nurse for almost 2 months. I have the foldable clipboard and the pocket protector too and let me tell you those two things are staples in my opinion! For clinical I would put my license and credit card/cash in the pocket protector so I didn’t have to take my full wallet inside, because I didn’t always have my eye on my bag while at clinical. Every shift I have those things in my pockets and love them!!! Good luck to you! You can do it! 👩🏻⚕️

For the lab bag we have a similar one, and they had us take out all IV bag stuff block one since that’s a block 2 skill, maybe your school will do that too, it lightens the load. Also, it doesn’t get lighter the more labs you have in my school since we will reuse the items throughout the block 😅 good luck in your first semester! Stick it out even through the most stressful times and it goes by insanely quick!

I’m currently a 2nd year PA student and about the bp. I took CNA class right after I graduated high school. So hard to hear. I could hear the diastolic but not systolic well. Went to EMT school. They got us a littman (probably a cheap one), if I can find it and figure out which one it is I’ll post it. Still hard to hear. For PA school we were required to have a cardiology stethoscope which is the expensive ones. I can hear so much better. The first time I took a manual with it I’m like what? Crazy. They are double the price of the classic and nurses don’t really need that high tech but the sound is amazing if anyone does want to splurge :)

Hi Madi, Congratulations on your acceptance into nursing! I’m currently in an ASN Nursing program and would love to share some tips for you! As I’m sure you heard, this major requires a lot of expensive and one time use textbooks. You can kind almost all of them online as Ebooks for about 60-80% off their original price. Plus you can have them with you at all times via phone or laptop. You learn a lot of information and will have plenty of lecture. I found it helpful to divide my courses by exam material. Typically you’ll have about 3-4 exams a course and to me when you separate the material by said exams, it makes the workload look easier so you aren’t stressing as much plus you can get to information faster when studying. I’m not sure if this varies by colleges, but we’re given study guides for each lecture that has corresponding textbook pages. Do yourself a favor and read them! I promise it makes life so much easier on you when you’re actually comprehending information whilst being taught instead of listening without a clue in the world lol. I know it will be hard, but I promise it’s worth it. You’ve got this for sure and I’m rooting for you! Good luck 💜

This is just a suggestion and depends on your nursing school but I divided my binder by exams. So one divider would have all of exam one, second divider exam two stuff so and so forth. I would keep like a 1inch binder for my exam that I’m focusing on that week and then keep a big binder like 2 or 3 inches and once I was done with that exam I would put it in the big one that way I wasn’t toting the big binder in my backpack daily. A student ahead of me recommend this my 1st semester and boy does it work wonders. However totally depends on your syllabus and nursing school. Good luck and please enjoy your break while you can!

Find you a good big insulated water bottle, I used mine so much in nursing school! Get a small calculator from like the dollar store to fit in your pocket, I use daily it some in clinical but it came in so handy for test and lab!

Any tips for the TEAS test?! And what you recommend studying most for? I'm taking it this December in hopes of getting admitted next Summer!

Hey girl, you seem like a really sweet person. This was my first time watching any of your videos...not sure how I came across it! But I have been an RN BSN for 9 years now (which seems so crazy...time flies!) so I know what you're going through. I totally had trouble with manual blood pressures in the beginning too...but pretty soon it will become second nature to you. Investing in a good stethoscope helps too. I invested in a Littmann Cardiology III Stethoscope. It was pretty much the best one out there in 2008. Very pricey but totally worth it. I still use it to this day. That's 12 years of use so far...totally worth the cost, right?! I do have one tip for you though. I understand wanting to look cute and wanting to express yourself as much as you can despite the fact that you have to wear uniforms during clinicals. But the goal isn't to look cute. The goal is to learn and to look and act professionally. More importantly, you want to be taken seriously. I HOPE that you never have to interact with the kind of doctors I've had to speak to both as a student and as a new nurse (during my first year on my own). I've had horrible doctors call me all sorts of names when they were moody, ask to speak to the charge nurse bc I was too "incompetent"...it was bad (and totally untrue btw...the charge nurse checked the records and proved me right). But doctors can be very cruel. Now imagine if I was dressed all "cute-sy" with pink supplies and a binder and planner decorated with a bunch of pictures like a bedroom wall at home would be. The doctor probably wouldn't even look at me. I promise I'm not trying to be mean or anything of the sort. I just think you should re-consider what you wear and/or bring to clinicals. Remember what you're there to do. Good luck in nursing school! I'm sure you'll do fine...you're thinking ahead and preparing now so that's good. I agree on the compression socks too! And you should get any design for that one bc it's mostly covered up anyway. I was boring and got nude compression stockings...but I was in a hurry to get them and I didn't have time to look for designs! lol

I haven't had a binder in years, but your personalized one make me want to get a binder!!! I might look into personalize MacBook cases instead. All of the professor in my program use powerpoint and upload them onto blackboard. It's easier for me to take notes directly on the powerpoint and copy/paste whatever I need onto quizlet to study.

Would definitely love to see a what you need to know before becoming a nurse// going to nursing school. Because I definitely want to become a rn and I'm completely clueless
@zc6985 жыл бұрын
Latavia Jefferson Do your research, depends on what school you want to apply to and their requirements such as gpa min, what classes you need to take and if they require you to take the TEAS or HESI. I highly recommend getting into a CNA program beforehand and your BLS certification so you can get a better feel for what to expect and if you do like nursing. Also aim for A’s, not B’s for all your classes. The primary Prerequisites you need to take are anatomy, chemistry, physiology and microbiology too, all with lab. Also try to volunteer somewhere local, it’ll help when applying to nursing schools. Hope this helps.
