tbh for me dullscythe means like the process of making a song from 0. You start building and creating the song to the point where you end up finishing it and it sounds amazing to the point that you love it.

dullscythe is truly a magical song because of how it conveys a meaning through instrumental only.

My dad passed away from a heart attack in August 2022. The paramedics had to turn off the tv in order to hear better while getting him in the ambulance but according to youtube history my dad was listening around the time my neighbor called to tell us there was an ambulance at our house. This album means so much to me because of that incident. I'll never forget the moment me, my brother, and mom were in the hospital and I sang Sweet Time to them.

Sometimes I get so flustered with emotions when I think of how this album will be with us until the day we die. I’m only 30, with a lot of time left on this earth, and it’s scary. But I find comfort knowing that this music now exists in our world. And it’s not going anywhere. It’s there for me, it’s there for you.

Bangs aside, the meaning of "Nurture" is the best thing about the album... Yes, long text incoming. After actually studying to make eletronic music, Porter had such fire songs like Easy, Spitfire and Language, making him famous in the genre and giving a chance to make a lot of collabs with other people... Then, suddenly he stoped to work on collabs to give his all on the genre defining album "Worlds", which is talked even nowadays as a reference on the eletronic music industry. Worlds made him get on the top of the world, with a message about *RUNNING AWAY FROM REALITY TO FANTASY* (this is important later) which gave him the glory and recognition he so much wanted. But that made him hollow, hurt and broken. Porter wasn't ready to get on the top so fast and that haven't made well to him as he made a lot of decisions which turned into regrets later. Then, with his friend Madeon he finished the ultimate song about running from reality to fantasy, and that's the absolute sucessfull worldwide song with a anime animation Shelter, and after staying years developing a simple sound which later was revealed to be the drop of Something Comforting (My favorite btw), we have the life lesson album called Nurture which talks about *RETURNING FROM THE FANTASY TO THE REALITY*: Look at the Sky: A affirmation with his own real voice to himself he can make music, he can make something good, he will be alive and well next year and his music career isn't over yet. Get Your Wish: Porter Talking about how glory sometimes makes us empty, asking himself if he got the wish after getting on the top with "Worlds" and saying to all the people who listens to him the suffering we have will serve to make us strong in due time so we have to keep on. Musician: A review about his creative block after Worlds, with lyrics like "isn't about time to get a job?" and "isn't about time that you grow up?" which a lot of artists listen in their start of career, or how he found the way to make music saying "How do you music? Well it is easy. Just face your fears and become your heroes, i don't understand why you are freaking out". Dullscythe: It's interesting how it isn't a real song, but a song trying to come to live like it's developing it self in the four minutes of duration it have. Unfold: Going on the same line as Get Your Wish, in Unfold Porter talks to his listeners about how he got the top of the world, like a water unfolding itself, carrying all of its burden and why he want us to know that feeling he had. Also, in the official Music video, we have a slow transition between fantasy (Worlds) to the reality (Nurture), which is why this song can be called the bridge of the two albums. Something Comforting: Boy, this is the one i most like for the deep meaning for Porter it had. After working 4 years on the same drop until having the final result, we have a message about how all this time Porter just wanted to hear something comforting like "You can make sounds", "They're good", "Be yourself" and things like that, but in the reality his fame ended up hurting him like the lyrics say "Cause' getting made you want more, and hoping made your hurt more". We also have two situations, the first being the transition of Porter own voice and the vocaloid voice which we can think as an lack of confidence is his voice but at the same time a brave try to sing and express himself as Porter Robinson and not Virtual Self, mainly deciding to stay as a vocaloid at the end with the fear of himself, and how after the first verse with "When you wake up you're bargaining, for a promise to come back" (You wake up while thinking about going back to sleep) he goes foward on life with the second verse "So suffer the signs that you needed to change, heed all the ways you been thinking" (There isn't a gain without pain, so suffer all the pain you need to gain something from it and start going on foward). Sorry for the bad English™ and i know there are a lot of other songs in the album which deserver atention too, but i just wrote a little expressing how much meaning, not speaking about music but about life itself, this 58 minutes album have to make you experience a lot of emotions and end with loving your life, yourself and your reality no matter how hard it is.

Also, my interpretation of Dullscythe is the process of writers block. An idea is in your head and it swirls around and around, and you try desperately to make something, akin to trying to cut grass with a dullscythe. But, eventually everything starts working together and you push through.

Dealing with burnout around the same time this album was released was a real blessing. I feel like most artists pull their creativity from their own beautiful worlds they build in their heads, and alongside talking about how paralyzing it is to lose that world, porter really made songs that vividly built back up those realms we desperately look to for creativity. It’s been a long time since I felt a part of that world. I couldn’t be more thankful for an artist :)

Looks like two Zachs think alike, how about that. Well, I'm gonna be the guy who leaves a sob story comment, and I'm sorry for that, never really liked to be the type to just tell my life story over the internet, but I want to really thank you about your section on Mother. I'm really close with my mother, and that song in particular was really moving for me as I had just moved 1000 miles away to go to college in late August, and understanding that my mother was always there for me really lifted such a weight of my shoulders and made me feel such a gratitude I couldn't honestly express through anything more than tears. Mother was the first and so far only song to make me cry, knowing that my parents but specifically my mother was always there for me and that we would still have that relationship. My mother... passed away in a pretty horrific incident on Nov. 22nd. I couldn't get myself to listen to Mother in particular since then not because it would make me grieve more but rather I had felt that the song had lost all it's meaning to me. My mother is gone, she can't be there for me anymore no matter how large my failures or successes. Before this I had always though of the song in a physical way, not someone always being with you in mind but in body, and I'd never even begun to think that the intention of the song was about mortality all along. When you love someone deeply, they never truly leave you, and the song being about that strong love rather than the presence of someone has really helped me even in this moment of just discovering it. My mom is always on my side, and I can take this life on through the lessons I learned from here. I am never alone if I don't want to be, because I know if she was still here she'd be proud of who I am all the same. Even if she can't in a literal sense, I know her well enough to where I know she would if she could. Thank you.

Actually I listened to Porter Robinson since his Worlds Album, during highschool I played Shelter non-stop. During Covid I was super depressed but this album saved my mental health. I was so lucky to catch him performing live, I didn't had anyone to go with, but going alone was the best decision I made.

For people that listen to the album and want more, he's got two live performances on his channel and they're also an amazing journey. The one by himself has amazing remixes and the one in front of the audience, you get to see a bit of the more human side of him during the performance. I can't get enough of this album.

I truly think it's the hidden gem of the album. Not many people listen to it because it's slower and more of a ballad than the rest of the album, but it's a heartfelt and beautiful expression of an incredibly mature concept.

Nurture is by far one of my favourite albums of all time, I love it so much, it flows so well into itself, like it's one long movie. I have no favourite song though, I feel like it would be like I was saying other songs on the album were worse than it. Wind Tempos is wonderful, it's so calming and I feel like I've been transported to a breezy field Though when it comes to raw emotion, it would have to be the cover song for the Album, Mirror, it reminds me that even though today is bad, tomorrow can still be better, that it will "All be ok in the end"

Wow, I’ve known porter for while, and I’ve heard mother quite a lot, but I never thought much of it, never fully payed attention to the lyric, so I stopped listening to it. Since them I’ve moved away from my mom and I haven’t heard the song since today, when I seen this video and you showed porter talking about it and you showing us the lyric, after seeing what it really meant all along I’m immediately started crying, because I never really thought too deep about it because at the time i listened to it I still lived with my mom. Now I understand the true meaning and it means a lot more to be because of this, thank you.

I love this, let me just say that Fullmoon Lullaby is so underrated, and I wish it was released for the United States! Also, for the live version of Mother, the melody is just amazing, and I love that in the live version the second drop goes double time on the beat/drum/kick. One of my all-time favorite albums. Right up there with Good Faith by Madeon and True by Avicii. Edit: too bad you can’t monetize the video because of all the copyright lol

Got to see Porter live last year and it really was an incredible celebration. It rained during Wind Tempos which was a spiritual experience. I didn't know Language was on the set and I lost it! And the live performance was the first time I understood the meaning of Mother, and it broke me. I can't relate to that hopeful perspective because of a rocky relationship with my family, so it's a more heartbreaking song for me. Get your Wish and Something Comforting met me at a very dark place where I desperately needed them.

Mirror (which is my fav from Nurture), for me, feels so unreal, as if it could be the soundtrack for someone waking up in the morning, strolling through a forest, while still not sure if they have actually woken up or not - something like this. I loved Mirror, it just speaks to my self doubt, indecisiveness, self hatred, and overall lack of motivation. Mother is also great, but not because of the fear of growing up or moving out, it's because of the chorus. I know my mom loves me, and that there are others who do so too, but I still feel lonely, so hearing those words just makes me bawl, it helps me realize that I am loved, and honestly it's the only thing helping me stay alive. I fear that if I end it all, my mom and those who care for me would feel sad and burdened, which I definitely don't want. I love this album, and I love Porter's music in general. It definitely helps me stay out of my dark thoughts. PS. love the fullmoon lullaby at the end, shame it only released in Japan, would've loved for it to be part of the global album, even if I don't understand the lyrics
