Just played my third game of this and I agree with just about everything said, an excellent review. Might I add that I like the aesthetics, the cold blue and green and artwork give a flavour of what I imagine it to be like and the the harshness of fishing in Nusfjord

Very helpful review Robert. I just picked up Le Havre on sale, and Nusfjord looks like a simplified version in a lot of ways. Do the shares and clearing space on a personal player board give it enough of a unique feel to own both? I'm also kind of gutted that the building cards are just text, and don't use similar gorgeous art to what's on the box. It feels like a missed opportunity not to have your player boards develop into visually interesting villages.

Thank you for the review! By the way, where did you get those tins? Those things are great!

Container store. They stack and come in a couple different sizes as well.

Nice side display of your talking point. (Like showing areas of the board.) I always want to see it for myself, so this was great for me. :)

Good review. Game looks like a snooze though. Robert does a good job explaining it but stated “Player Interaction is light as in most worker placement games.” I’m hoping WP games get back to Caylus and Agricola type games where someone else’s decisions need to be distilled in order to survive.

I agree, player interaction is low regarding blocking other peoples. Most competed spaces allow several people to go into (up to 3), and there are even additional spots, where you can choose one of the occupied spaces if you play with more players. The shares are interesting, but the most interaction in my opinion comes from when and if to use the "serve fish" action. This converts fish to VP at an excellent rate, if the village is starving. But it allows other people to use their elders. Still, after a couple of plays, I'm not entirely sold on this game. For me, it's too similar to too many other Rosenbergs, and Agricola still the quintessential one in this line. But the review was very good, and even helped me making some connections regarding the theme, which was very disconnected to me during plays.

Nice video. I've played a bunch of solo games and today just started teaching it to neighborhood kids. Really fun!

This game lost me the moment I saw the amount of text in the cards. Plus, another Uwe's game similar to Agricola, Caverna, Le Havre... oh boy! Is there going to be some fresh air on future Uwe's games!?

Barba o Bardo Cottage Garden, Patchwork, Indian Summer, Bohnanza, Inland Port and probably more I’m not thinking of, have no in game text.

And that's my whole point: after doing such modern and awesome games, why step back to a game full of text? Looks old fashion bureaucracy. :(
@markusschmidt92607 жыл бұрын
I don't get this complain. More often than not, iconography make games even more complicated to learn and teach. They are rather used in modern games because you can make higher print runs for several publishers in different languages, so the production is cheaper. The amount of text in this game is also not particular big, and many text features could likely not be covered with icons.

I'd respectfully disagree with you. Let's take Agricola vs Caverna, for instance. Caverna has a great flow, is intuitive and elegant, and has NO WORDS on it. On the other hand, Agricola has a lot of text and, if you didn't learn every single card it is a pain to be up to speed on what's happening. Not mentioning the bureaucracy feeling of it. Games with lots of text are getting old (i.e. Macao, Bruges... really outstanding games) and losing space to modern, text-less games (i.e. Simone Luciani's games, Richard Breese's, Orléans/Altiplano...). People are way more visual these days.

I've never played Caverna, but I know several gamers, who rather prefer Agricola over Caverna because of the card decks. You don't have to learn every card, this would be actually not even possible for most people, just decide which cards to pick durring drafting. There are games with lots of text even today, like Terraforming Mars. And others, like Lorenzo il Magnifico have a very bad iconography, you spend more time checking the rule book, what the cards actually mean then how long it would take to read a little paragraph of text.

I like a lot of the dice tower videos but why don’t you edit better? I just don’t understand why you leave pauses and stammers in. You obviously edit the visuals but there are so many audio things left it that would take seconds to cut. Please pay a little more attention to the details, you are professionals. Set a high standard.
