This band with leader, Lowell George, was fusion tight and got it right by playing it loose and blended rock, country, jazz, soul, blues and gospel, all electric. I found out about their sound from college buddy in 1972. I saw this Feat line-up Live in mid 1970s. So this lineup is: Lead vocals/guitar Lowell George; drums Richard Hayward, bass guitarist Ken Gradney, guitarist-vocalist Paul Barrere, keyboard Bill Payne and conga player Sam Clayton. Great stuff, wish there was more, thanks!

I saw them in 1975, general admission @ Wesleyan. I stood against the stage, could almost grab Lowell's leg from where I was. One of the best shows that I ever saw. And I saw some great shows, including seeing Genesis do The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (on Broadway in NYC!), and many Grateful Dead shows including the New Haven May 1977 show. Little Feat was a fantastic band, so sorry that Lowell died so young. Hearing that he died was like when I heard Belushi died or John Lennon died. A gut punch. For my high school yearbook picture I used the caption: "You bring the guitar, I'll bring the wine, We'll blow out our speakers just one more time."

It's good to see Lowell in his prime and the band at it's peak. It got a lot worse for them as it progressed - the ravages of time and fortune - but this stuff is golden! Hell, almost everything they did was tighter than a fly's butt musically and off the charts technically - literally, off the charts, no bank. Sad story, but a great teaching tool.

Is that an 18mm half-inch drive socket he's using for a slide? Whatever it was, Lowell George could play slide guitar and then some. In my opinion, the song that preceded this one on OGWT (Rock n Roll Doctor) is one of the all time great live performances. If only there'd been a live audience too. Ah where has the time gone...
@markmiwurdz202 Жыл бұрын
Lowell George used a Sears & Roebuck Craftsman 11/16ths socket wrench as his slide. Lowell said that to get a certain bottleneck slide guitar sound needed the neck from the right glass bottle - which is difficult to find, and may get broken. So he used the socket ( right material and weight for him) because they were available almost anywhere in the U.S. Nerd Note: apparently Lowell had to wrap Gaffer tape (sticky side "out") on the inside of the socket to make it fit his little/pinky finger just right!
