Leto was never caught off guard by the Emperor's plot to eliminate him, nor by the Harkonnens' desire for revenge. He knew of their intentions all along, yet he could not refuse the Emperor’s "gift" of Arrakis, understanding the intricate political game he was entering. From the start, Leto was preparing to leverage the Fremen and harness the power of the desert, but the Harkonnen strike came sooner than anticipated. His interest in the Fremen was not benevolent-he intended to use them as a means to assert dominance over the Landsraad. Dune is not a story of surprises, but one of complex machinations, where every scheme hides deeper layers of intrigue.

Paul controlling the Spacing Guild, and therefore all interstellar travel, is probably the main reason why his Jihad was so successful. He didn’t HAVE to fight all those who opposed him. He could simply cut off and isolate worlds that resisted and let them die off from lack of resources and spice. Billions would die of starvation. Many seem to forget that spice is highly addictive and withdrawals are painfully fatal. The elite controlling these worlds would die from spice withdrawals and everyone else would fall in line or die as well. Many worlds could easily be subjugated this way without any kind of fighting.

Just my thoughts; I think that without spice the rest of the galaxy couldn't functionally travel the stars. And so they were all isolated from one another with the Freemen taking worlds one by one and replenishing their numbers from new converts. With those refusing to convert being "removed". Thus leading to the 61 billion number. It seems unrealistic but keep in mind in our own history we have several examples of a small warrior tribe taking out large and populous empires. The Visigoths numbered perhaps 500k in total, yet they defeated western Rome that had 14-18 million people. The Arabs took a big chunk out of eastern Rome (12-16 million) and completely conquered Sassanian Persia(8-10 million) with perhaps 2-4 million total population. And lastly we have the Mongols who were thought to number 800k defeating the Song Dynasty and its 120 million people with the Chinese population dropping to 60 million after they had rolled through.

I hate to say it, but a Real Life Incident (Yes, THAT one) kind of changed my whole opinion of the Fremen from when I was young (first read the Dune series WAY back in High School, longer than I want to remember ago 😅) Whereas then I was all "Yeah! Get them Evil Harkonnens, Paul [and the Fremen]!!" Now I see them as they were probably meant to be seen: Religious Jihadists that were personally responsible for the deaths of Millions upon Millions who did not convert to their new 'religion', and Billions more through collapsing the interstellar trade network that many planets depended on for food and other resources.

0:25 What is The War of the Sisterhoods? In the Dune Universe, happens during Heretics of Dune and Chapterhouse: Dune! There is a problem, with regards to the Dune Series. It is seperated into two parts, Classic Dune and Expanded Dune. *Some spoilers ahead* Classic Dune written by Frank Herbert himself consists of six novels, I honestly prefer Classic Dune to its more nuanced and philosophical take on the issues, story, technology and characters which has ensured Dune’s continuous survival within the Science Fiction Genre. Everyline, every piece of dialogue and every scene is filled with philosophical arguments and questionings, even the detailing of events have some hidden meaning behind them. To read Classic Dune, it follows a simplistic chronological order. Book 1: Dune Book 2: Dune Messiah Book 3: Children of Dune Book 4: God-Emperor of Dune *Book 5: Heretics of Dune* *Book 6: Chapterhouse: Dune* However, Expanded Dune is a bit more complex in a sense. Expanded Dune, written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson, has divided the Dune fanbase for certain reasons. First, the writing style is clearly a step back from the writting of Frank Herbert which honestly takes away some of the enlightenment that Frank Herbert seems to impart on the reader. Secondly, inconsistencies are rampant in Expanded Dune, most notably amongst Sequels to Dune and in Legends of Dune. In Sequels to Dune, some themes and lore set by Frank Herbert has been thrown out the window, most notably Daniel and Marty whom mostly remained anonymous in Chapterhouse Dune and hinted to be evolved Face Dancers are instead the Thinking Machines that Humanity defeated in the Butlerian Jihad. Some decisions too seemed to contradict previous notions. For example, the Ghola of Leto II Atredies, chooses to fuse himself with the sandworms (not Sandtrout this time). However, in God Emperor of Dune, Frank Herbert states that Leto II’s metamorphosis was physically painful to the God Emperor and is used to reflect Leto’s lost of Humanity as a sacrifice for the greater good of Man to follow the Golden Path. In Legends of Dune, the Butlerian Jihad is potrayed as an absolute war between man and Nazi Totalitarian Robots that sought to eradicate humanity or at least enslave it. However, in Classic Dune, Frank Herbert wanted the Jihad to be a caveat to Humanity’s laziness and ingenuity as some would call it. He believed that Humanity is capable of indeterminate evolution and achieving infinite possibilities whilst machines made humanity think like machines, to only see things as codes and numbers, patterns and pre-determined conclusions etc. I do not recommend Expanded Dune if you want to understand Frank Herbert’s original intentions and philosophy but it does provide some insight or perspective and context for the events in Dune and ends Classic Dune in a manner that does not really seem to be inline with Herbert’s original plan for Dune 7. So here’s the list. Prequels: 1. Prelude to Dune Dune: House Atredies; Dune: House Harkonnen; Dune: House Corrino. 2. Legends of Dune Dune: The Butlerian Jihad; Dune: The Machine Crusade; Dune: The Battle of Corrin. 3. Schools of Dune (some consider this to be one of their better works ) Sisterhood of Dune; Mentats of Dune; Navigators of Dune. 4. The Caladan Trilogy (Focusing namely on Leto I and the Lady Jessica) (The newer titles with Duke being released in 2019) The Duke of Caladan; The Lady of Caladan; The Heir of Caladan (Unreleased till 2022). Sequels to Dune: Hunters of Dune; Sandworms of Dune. Heroes of Dune (they detail the events of Paul’s Jihad and Childhood as well as Jessica’s investigations after Paul’s disappearance at the end of Dune Messiah before becoming The Preacher): Paul of Dune; The Winds of Dune. That’s all, hope it helps! If you want to know more of the Dune Universe, The Dune Encyclopedia is a nice little Encyclopaedia about the universe of Dune with regards to character biographies, information of the Spice melange ( providing a chemical formula as well ) as well as some more information on the Great Houses and Imperium at large. The video game Dune 2 ( which I enjoy yet am very bad at ) uses some information from the Encyclopedia. Frank Herbert himself provided a foreword though with Expanded Dune it sets a alternative to the Dune Universe than the “Canon” which Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson created. It may be difficult to find a hardcopy of the Encyclopedia due to its rarity ( and that the Herbert Household prevents its reprinting ) there are online copies.

Nice pro-Islamic subterfuge, dude. The Arabs tell the outside world that jihad just means struggle, while inwardly among themselves they wink and nod at the fact they know they are calling for violent Crusade (including the imposition of repressive Sharia) and "holy" war. Your participation in their crafty deception is quite vile, albeit seemingly the standard m.o. of a cowardly world which quails in the face of militant, warlike, Jihadist Muslimism, always ready to excuse everything they do (especially if that radical brand of Islam can be used as a stick to beat Christians). The historical reality is that Islam has been using this deceptive strategy (one superficial meaning for outsiders, another deeper meaning among themselves) for 1400 years. Unsurprising that they themselves had learned the technique from their predecessors the Jews, who had used the technique for over 3000 years. What a surprise---> lib-left apologists using Islam and / or Jewry as sticks to beat Christians. Thus it was no surprise that moon-unit extremist leftist Killary Klinton raced to defend, or at least, excuse, the perpetrators of the disgusting and cowardly attacks on Christian churches in the horrifying Easter Sunday bombings in Sri Lanka a few years ago. She couldn't even bring herself to identify that the victims were CHRISTIANS and the vile perpetrators were Islamic JIHADISTS, and she led the worldwide movement to deceptively refer to the slain Christians as "Easter worshippers", even though they most certainly did not worship Easter, a calendar day---> they worshipped their Risen Saviour Jesus [the] Christ...
