Glock 5th Gen becomes a reality. After rounds fired at both indoor and outdoor settings, I draw some conclusions on what this means. I am glad Glock finally did an update but probably not for the reasons you're thinking. Features update shown along side 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Glocks on the tabletop...to include my 1989 Glock 19. The question is finally answered in the end: Should I sell my previous generation Glocks to get this new one?!

I just want to let you know that I support this channel as much as I can. I don't comment often because I come to learn, but I like as much as I can. I watch your ads and I've donated to the patreon(in admittedly very low amounts). I'm in a bad way financially. So watching 30 minute gun reviews keeps the passion flowing while I wait for opportunities to get more into guns. keep up the good work!

I remember as a young Airman working at Barksdale AFB and seeing some of the QF-4 come through the transient alert ramp on their way to places elsewhere. I needed a maintenance release signature to launch my B-52 that morning and finally found my Maintenance Supervisor parked over next to the transient ramp looking at one of the QF-4's. He was unusually quite that morning and I caught a glimpse of his face, it looked like he had been crying. After getting my maintenance release he told me he started his military career working on that specific F-4 fresh from the factory.

I finally gave in and bought my first Glock about a week ago, a Gen 5 / G26 and I love it. I can say without any doubt that I'll buy a G19 very soon and a G17 as well. I have never been interested in Glock and bought other brands and now find myself wishing I'd gave in sooner.

Honestly there’s not much you can do to improve with this gun, it runs and runs and is very simplistic which is why it has such a following. I have owned Sigs, Walthers, Fns, Rugers and Smith and Wesson but I always go back to my Glocks.

Light rail did change. the slot was changed to a 1913 sized slot instead of the original proprietary slot. This made my TLR'S fit sloppy with play. Good thing I kept my TLR slot adaptors and was able to change them out to 1913 so they fit. Good review. I upgraded all my glocks to gen 5's IMHO, it is a better gun, not by far, but i like them. Have shot about 1000 rds so far. No malfunctions, no brass to the face. its a winner so far.

Like my music, I am a couple of years ( ok maybe a decade) behind when it comes to my guns. I just got my Gen 4s within the past two years. Still rockin a Gen 3 G35 as my duty gun. I will never change it. It’s been 100 percent, reliable so Gen 3 really lives up to their slogan “perfection.” I see no need to go Gen 5.

@eddiet204

I’ve run a G35 for almost 20 years and find that it gives me added accuracy at distance (60-75 yards). I ride motors and we are not authorized to have ARs on our bikes, so I want the ability to reach out as far as possible. I run a Gen 3 G22 as my Home Gun with a .357 sig barrel. I also have conversion barrels for 9mm/357 sig for my G35s. The Work gun stays at work as a .40 and my competition gun (which is my original G35 that’s been relegated to competition now) has the Lone Wolf 9mm conversion, Wheaton trigger, and 3.5 connector. Hands down, my favorite all around work/sport gun. That being said, P229 is my off duty carry just because I think Sigs are cool :) 357 Sig conversion for G35 is available through Lone Wolf.

I'm an 0l' retired Police Officer and I carried a Glock model 22 for most of my years in Law Enforcement. And, I have another exact same model 22 I bought a few years back and its just as good as the first one. I like the sites on mine I did change them out on my Police gun to Hiney Nightsites for a reason. To be able to see better in the dark. I like the Triggers on both of my pistols. (we could Not change any thing to the function of our duty guns by law back then) I Love the finger Grips on mine too. It just Fit's me. I like and Use ETS Mag's in both of my pistols and they feed perfectly. ( I hear that some people Don't like them) I could go on & on but I won't, except I will always keep my Glocks at hand. Thanks for doing this! Glad you were able to take it into the desert and not just to an indoor range. I always enjoy when the desert "exposes" some guns, but the Gen 5 seemed to do just fine. ALSO, I THINK IT'S ABOUT TIME YOU GOT FEDERAL AS A (partial) AMMO SPONSOR!!! I appreciate the desire to appear unbiased at all times, but if you use an ammo company like Federal as your baseline when you do your testing you'll always have a consistent benchmark to work with. It's also ammo that most of us can get and shoot on a regular basis so we'll be able to do apples to apples comparisons to your results. I think you should absolutely continue/expand your relationships with Gunnie's and Federal.

It's a point, but it's not a major point. Given that a number of manufacturers are doing it in recent years I don't see it as a negative. Just sort of a me too. Frankly nothing is really "innovative" anymore. They're all polymer famed striker fired pistols with Browning tilting barrels.

Great video, the reason for the Gen 5 Glock 17 and 19 is basically the FBI 17M and 19M. All of the changes that were done were because the FBI said that we'll give you $86M to make this gun. They went from a 2pin gun (Gen 1/Gen 2) to a 3pin gun (Gen 3/Gen 4) back to the 2pin gun (Gen 5). They took off the finger grooves, beveled the front end of the slide like a 26/27/33/34/35 slides for reholstering, nDLC coating, beveled or flared the magwell, the orange follower was to see if the magazine was empty, which if the slides locked to the rear and there's no brass hangin out the side of the gun than guess what it's empty. I might be wrong but I think that they used to use hexagonal and polygonal rifling and they changed the standard rifling and they did put a target crown on their match barrel. Ambi slide stop lever, I believe that they changed the trigger bar, and they changed the old firing pin safety plunger to a Glock "42/43" style plunger. They stayed with the Gen 4 "SF" or short frame and back straps but they did give you a smooth "combat" style trigger on both the 17 and 19 vs a serrated "target" trigger like on all of the Glock 19's before. I think they also changed the takedown latch or lever. The spring I think is a traditional spring and not a leaf style spring.

DynoSauR ...why would you buy a gun that you have to change the trigger after you buy it....
@DynoSauR4Truth
@DynoSauR4Truth 6 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. Maybe it's because most guns on the market don't come with good factory triggers. It's only been a recent change that some guns are coming with good triggers from the factory. That is a good thing about Glock's. Their lower weight trigger disconnector is much cheaper for a trigger kit than most trigger kits for most guns out there. With most Glock's you don't even know when you've actually come up against the wall with the trigger. Just keep pulling and it eventually fires. With my other M&P that has the Apex everyday carry kit you know exactly when it hits the wall and the next little bit of effort is going to cause it to fire. Maybe you need to try shooting a gun with a nice trigger kit and then you'll know why it's nice to have one. I put trigger kits in my Glock's when I had them too. They also need it.

I went from my mk25 to a gen4 G19. I have to say I'm very happy. I love the 226, it was my first firearm. I had it for a month now. I rented the p320 compact and a G19. Grip, function and reliability were my deciding factors. The 320 compact 9mm , I could not keep a good grip on it. I would need to carry it with extended mags. Glock fit my hand. At ten yards and out to maybe 15 yards indoors I shot them both the same. Love the stock trigger. I love Sig triggers as well. You definitely tell the difference. Anyways, love the video.

What you see on the side is not Tenifer. My understanding is both Tenifer and Melonite are similar processes that harden the surfaces of the metal, I believe both are dips in a salt/chemicle bath at high heat kind of like a modern case hardening. A paint or coating is put over that in the slide. The barrel is tennifer/melonited as well in the older models, compare that to the coating on the slide.

The newest variation on the G17 Gen 5 has eliminated that little front cutout at the bottom of the magwell, and also beveled the front edge of the gripframe to match the bevel on the slide. They also added front slide serrations. Minor, but nice to see that Glock DOES listen to customer feedback, as those three small things were complained about by reviewers, and regular buyers, alike.

I carry a G17 Gen4 for work. Only reason I got a gen5 was because I wanted a G19 for off duty carry and with blue label pricing they're the same. So I was like "screw it, why not?". I've actually been pleasantly surprised by the trigger. Enjoy the lack of finger grooves. Aside from that, nothing else seems like any drastic improvement. I'd probably care more if I was a lefty.

I think Beretta deserves their spot with Sig and Glock, so does S&W. Colt's a little too old school and great for second cool, but those four have been very consistent in delivering modern GTW product that you can depend on. The biggest difference is what the end user wants, and they each offer something a little different that'll fit different preferences. But they're all good and deliver on the absolute need in a side arm: reliability and durability.

I had nothing but good things to say about Glocks until last week. My Gen4 22 with about 1500-2000 rounds through it had, quite literally, two-dozen FTF's, one of which was a class-3 stoppage. After some experimentation, the culprit was the X300 mounted to the gun. The Gen4 was supposed to have fixed this problem. Incredibly disappointed, and glad it happened in a the sterility of a training environment.

I'm okay with the F-4s being blown up as drones. I met many aviators who flew the type at university. They loved their jet, but it was a tool, and we preserved a lot of them, but any tool needs to serve a purpose until it's use ends. Many went on to save lives as ejection trainers and targets to prove the effectiveness of weapons that would save oncoming aviator's lives. That's a really good legacy for any fighter to ultimately serve after it becomes obsolete on the front line. The F-4 became a legend and served it out until the end in US service. The airframe likely would still have life with avionics upgrades if it weren't for the F-15, F-16, and F-18, but that's the way of things. Years down the line we'll look back and recognize how good they were for their era, but aerodynamics is a science that we keep improving on because it's a very practical science to invest in.

Hey Nutn I've been watching for a really long time now. I learned so much from you. I talked to PFI dude a little and he was so incredibly nice and passionate. I just want to thank you for everything you do. I know you might have some hard times with money now because of the choices youtube has made. I just want to tell you to keep following your dreams. I think all we have in this life is ourselfs and our dreams. Keep chasing your dreams. You have a beautiful family, keep being a role model father for me. I want to be a good dad too someday.

Sad to hear about the phantoms, but US aviation museums and preservation programs are way better than others. The state of US armored vehicle preservation, on the other hand, is pretty tragic! Many variants just no longer exist anymore as they've been scrapped or rusted away.

The rail is 1913 spec now and a little bigger all around. I couldn't figure out why the gun appeared to be a little chunkier upfront when I first got it. Some holsters like my 5.11 thumbdrive won't take the Gen 5 because of this.

Great video. Not enough “good” differences from my gen 3 G17 and G19 to switch over to the Gen 5. The G46 looks interesting though. Waiting for your video on it when you get to review the G46.

2nd gen is where its at. I know it don't have all the fancy stuff like rails and what not but it's simple and reminds me of a simpler time. If I were to use a glock for home defense I'd use a 2nd generation glock 22 and my maglite at a flashlight / close range defense tool. I don't have access to glocks as I live in the UK however I have shot many different kinds of glocks when I was in the US and the gen 2 just fits for me.

As long in the tooth as they were, the Phantoms are still a favorite of mines. My old man serviced them over in Zweibrucken (W.Ger), and hearing those old RF-4s from Canadian housing, and flying over, rattling the windows...'Murica!

Hey nutnfancy. Being that you have THE most in depth reviews I'd love to see you do a review on the M&P 2.0 compact 9mm the. Follow up with a detailed comparison video between the G19 and the 2.0 compact. That would be awesome. People have tried to do these type of reviews but I think you'd be the one to get it just right.

I'd figure it'd be a similar review to his S&W M&P Mod 2 "Gun Got Right" video with the long slide version in FDE. I don't know if the Compact would change anything since controls and such should be the same. Maybe he will sometime though. I haven't had my Compact long but I do like mine.

I used to avoid buying Glocks because of their not fully supported chamber design (which is unsafe to shoot reloads in) and the polygonal rifled barrels that are unfriendly to cast ammo loads. Thanks to the cast bullet powder coating trick the polygonal rifling is no longer an issue. I now would generally prefer a hammer forged polygonal barrels due to reduced fouling with any load. So I have changed my mind about Glocks and now I only avoid them due to their unsupported chamber design. Seriously, I think Glocks are great pistols and a great value as long as you don't intend to use reloaded ammo. I have actually recommended them to friends that are "getting into" guns and are shopping for a first pistol. They really are great pistols and It's an excellent way to keep them from mooching reloaded ammo from me. ( and thanks to the Lee Precision "bulge buster" die I can still save and reload their Glocked up brass for my guns.) Yes they can be re-barreled but in re-barreled form are they any more reliable and affordable than their very excellent competitors that were actually designed from the get go to work with full support? Are there any hammer forged polygonal riffled aftermarket barrels with full chamber support available?

First thing I saw: Cold Steel Espada! Sick! Haven't seen it in a while. Looking at your Gen 5 you reviewed, the slide stop/release is already showing wear/tear after how many rounds you shot? Disappointing. I can still see you buying this later down the road as a cast member for current reviews. Like a special edition or something different. I also foresee Glock transitioning the Gen 5 to other members. Thank you Federal for helping out if they're listening. Thanks for the videos and support Nutn! Quad Owl Out!

XD. He's actually is going to do the Beretta 92 FS. Just got one last month to put to good use with my first ever CCW permit. I love it. Being a person that has worked with heavy equipment for about a decade, the gun feels like nothing while carrying it. When in hand, I do feel that weight but.. I like it. It has gives the impression that you have something solid. Same with the safety. I use the slide release so no problems there. Totally satisfied and might buy another. Maybe an M9A3 someday~ 👍

I bought a "base model" Glock 19 Gen5 recently (March 2021) for $560 after tax and here is what I discovered shortly before purchasing: - It DOES have front slide serrations now - It does NOT have the mag well cutout at the bottom - It still lacks finger grooves, which I am indifferent to regardless, because of my average sized, uh, hands.

Just bought my very first Glock today from a bunch of great guys at Tanners Sports in Jamison,Pa. after refusing all these years to play MONKEY SEE,MONKEY DO. I am a proud American and tried always to buy made in the USA 🇺🇸. However, this purchase today is NOT to add to my pistol collection. I am going to purchase tonight from ACC. the moduler kit to turn my Glock into a carbine. PLUS......I want to get all my firearms bought just incase you know who wins ?

I just recently bought a glock gen 3 17l. As someone who used to be whole heartedly against glock this model checked some really awesome boxes. Its long slide which is second cool its a glock which is eh. High cap 9mm with one of the biggest aftermarket in the world. Its a range toy maybe a shtf. Currently i enjoy it. That all being said the improvements gen to gen are minimal in my opinion. My gen 3 feels no different than any other glock i pick up.

Might have to take another look at the Glock... My buddy had the 17 with the finger grooves, and those stupid grooves caused me to go to the XD instead. Those grooves hit dead center of my fingers, and by the 3rd mag they were digging into my tendons, which was quite uncomfortable. Glad they've removed them :-)

Thats why theres 3 sizes. Durrrrrrr RTF just shreds hands. Ergonomics is what new guns are all about. The big thing that sucked about polymer guns at first is because you couldnt get a set of hogues on them. Gotta enjoy them when you can get them. HK P30 series is my fav. Hold one and itll feel like a extension of yourself. True story.

Funny you discount the value of the back strap. I have to use the back strap on my gen 4 34 to avoid slide bite. Same with M&P 2.0. Back straps are extremely important to me. Getting by hand cut up takes the fun right out of shooting. I wear a large glove but can get my hand in to a medium, so I don't have excessively large hands. Its just that I always try to drive my hand as high as I can for MY best possible grip. The medium dove tail works perfect for me so I can drive my hand high w/o thinking about it being to high. I don't think I'm alone, otherwise why would so many manufactures be offering them. Great job BTW. Love your vids.
