Күн бұрын

The internet tells me this is the best AK in the world. The internet tells me lots of things...a few of them are even true. So we'll get to the bottom of that claim is this one of kind Nutnfancy GRV on the SAM7 AK variant.
You see I remember well when this $1400 AK was introduced to market by Arsenal who then called it a "game changer" and promised the AK world would never be the same after the SAM7's introduction. Many reviewers bought into and furthered this hyped, perhaps more reliable than I in delivering a party line review.
This is addressed in the video and I'll remind you how frequent disconnects happen between savvy marketing and reality.
The we'll discuss the specifics of this 10 lb 9 oz AK variant rifle (can you say "holy hell?"). However we remain grateful to Nate, a TNP Patron for this loaner. It does wear some of his mods, discussed. But at the heart is the Bulgarian milled receiver SAM7 that's over 8 lbs with nothing on it, not even a magazine.
TNP philosophy governs the SAM7 review like SAWC, application of intermediate powered cartridges, 1st/2nd Cool, not making an AK what it wasn't meant to be, and the like. With its elevated price, the SAM7 in all its variations should need no modification, should shoot with supreme accuracy, should be lightweight, should come fully featured in an innovatie way, and should be near perfect with its ergos. Judgments are made here in each of those areas and I will remind you of other AKs that get those things mostly right for A LOT less.
Another touchstone, let's-get-real Nutnfancy gun review not to be missed!
Gunnies Sporting Goods Store in Orem helped make this review possible. Please thank them for their support of TNP. Gunnies Great American Western Wear Store, Address: 396 State St, Orem, UT 84058 Hours: 10AM-8PM, Ph 801-226-7080, gunniesonline.com

Purchased my first SAM 7 in 2002 for 525.00 through FAC. It is a milled receiver. Arsenal at that time only made milled receivers. Now have 24 thousand rounds through it. This rifle has needed no parts, even all of the springs are original. 99% of the ammo run through it is wolf.

@@nutnfancy not my personal rifle, but my best friend's was beating it's self to death within 500 rounds. The charging handle was gouging into the top cover with every shot and sticking the BCG to the rear. The receiver was wearing super fast. My MAK 90 had less wear after 5k rounds from my over the years, plus the wear from it's precious owner. The receiver was being gouged and beaten up with every shot fired. He sent it to Century who were nice, but they told him the rifle was fine. The rifle wasn't fine. It was going to self dessemble sooner rather than later. It was barely better than some I.O AKs I've seen that loose parts under use. I respect that yours (and certainly other people's) may not have had issues, but I can't recommend the RAS or Century as a company after seeing that. Some of those rifles are ticking time bombs.

I don't think any AK, short of one with unique collectable properties, is worth $1400. The rifle was designed to be a cheap, simple, durable workhorse that gets the job done well enough, and as you say, there's now no shortage of $600 AKs that achieve that. If you want rails, maximum precision, and modularity, an AR will do all that and it will not cost 1400. I'd go as far to say that the AK fanboys who defend the SAM7 are out of touch with the very weapon they claim is the best.

I got a Sam7r for $1200 because Rifle Dynamics are around $2k or more. Its a good rifle overall with a few quirks. The dual tang rear trunnion leaves a bit to be desired when it comes to aftermarket. My copy is plenty accurate for what it's used for, i replaced the handguard with magpul with some dremel and file work, the finish has held up really well to heat, the trigger is ok but ALG is the way to go. The weight i honestly dont mind that much it balances very well for me. The action is one of the smoothest i've ever worked with. Plus it works VERY well with a Dead Air Wolverine suppressor with little back pressure increase unlike other AKs i've tried. Overall i love my SAM7 and would purchase again. Its not for everyone but it works for me.

I would say the following: 1. You get what you pay for. The milled receiver, quality imported parts, and fit and finish on these rifles does cost more (mostly due to the important restrictions constraining supply). 2. The law of diminishing return applies. The difference between a $400 AK and an $800 AK is significant. The difference between an $800 AK and a $1400 AK is less so. 3. The marketing and hype is worth exactly what you paid for it...

Incoherent ramblings. SAM7 is a fine gun. The Ak is a very reliable 200 yard gun that will shoot reliability under adverse conditions. I shoot well under 1 moa at 200 yards with Wolf, norenco, and red army ammo. This is all I want from an Ak. If I want more accuracy I shoot an FAL, M14, AR15 or for long range 6.5 prc / 6.5 cm from an AIAXMC. This from a combat vet. Your review is BS.

I own a SAM7SF-84 rifle. It is a fantastic rifle-hits out to 500 yards with irons and cheapo wolf ammo all day every day. That being said-the price is a huge elephant in the room. A stamped AK type rifle that sells for half the cost can give you the same accuracy/capabilities-just being honest. If I was not in the financial position where I can afford to buy it (mom died and left me everything-I would rather have her still around) I would not have bought it-but it is a fantastic addition to my collection none the less.

As a guy who owns a SAM7SF-84R and loves it, I gotta say your opinions on the rifle you tested seem to be spot on. I’m guessing the original owner of the gun is a tinkerer because that poor thing has been modified more than Caitlyn Jenner. It seems to be a victim of “I want an AK that looks and acts like an AR”. It’s too bad you weren’t able to review a better specimen because I don’t think this one was the best representative of the SAM7 line. You’ll never fix the weight issue, but it doesn’t need all that crap done to it. I’ve had mine for 2 years (2400 rounds fired so I guess I’m one of those odd guys that actually shoots regularly) and I’ve only added a red dot, light, angled fore grip, and wrapped the metal stock with paracord to avoid it freezing my face when shooting in the winter. She’s is still a big girl though. With a fully loaded steel commie mag mine pushes 11 pounds! Lol BUT I bought it for a vehicle and fun gun so weight is not a huge factor. In 2018 I even took it to a 0-300 yard carbine course in TN and by the end of each day I was worn out, but dang it was fun to run it! The SAM7 is a great gun, folks just gotta be realistic about its limitations.

Having spent my hard earned money on a SAM7SF-84R, SAM7K-01, SAM7K-44, SLR 104FR, VEPR FM-AK47-21 & a VEPR FM-AK74-21,...the SAMs are equal to the VEPRs in quality, accuracy and 1st/2nd-ary cool. At $1600+ for a VEPR (post Russia sanctions 2.0 & MSD Parkland price rise of spring 2018),...the SAMs are a value at $1250-$1450. As for weight,...the VEPRs are not exactly light at 1.5mm stamped RPK receiver & heavy profile barrel. With a Steiner M332 (7.62 reticle w/ Arsenal SM-13K mount...yes, the shorter Krink Mount for extra rigidity),...as of 10/24/19, I was ringing 8” steel all day long w/ Wolf & Tulammo at 200 meters with my SAM7SF-84R. All. Day. Long. Shot. After. Shot. “Damn, son!” The SAMs & VEPRs are the best factory AKs one can reasonably get their hands on these days,...IMHO. And,...the VEPRs are going to be gone very soon, likely to not be imported again. “Your mileage may vary” p.s. WHY would anyone put such a ridiculous AR- style LRP stock on a SAM7SF...??? No wonder the damn thing is 10 lbs. The folding right-side stock and ambi- safety do make the SAM7SF-84 a true “game changer”.

The most important part of pretty much any buy is that you love it. Even when you get something nice and functional, it's not surprising to see your buddy sell off his boring but staid buy after a few years. Having enthusiasm is key, then all the flaws become something closer to loveable quirks instead of downsides. For bench shooting and even competition the weight isn't horrible, but everything has it's own silverlining. (Unemployed? At least you have free time' kind of things at least) I would love to see the milled ones carved up a bit to see how light you could make them just milling a bunch away. In a world where a WASR 10 is $700, paying $500 more to get a really nice milled AK doesn't seem crazy to me. The actions ARE smoother, the guns have properly heat treated and forged components, the fitment of all the parts is much better, the guns have a reputation of standing up to a lot of abuse. We always talk about the proverbial WROL situation, where parts and components may be hard to come by. This wouldn't be my choice, but I don't think it's a bad choice, even if it's a little heavy.
