These Bond Arms derringers seem highly rated. I had big doubts about them and therefor never sought one out for review. This one came to me through a family contact and he too was raving about how awesome it is (the Snake Eyes .45 Colt/.410 Shotshell version)...just like lots of online reviewers. They seem cozy with the Bond Arms company. It must be nice not being an outcast in the firearms industry!
But maybe I'm wrong about this Snake Eyes and we take it out to see how it does. Sadly it fails to impress as I had suspected. In fact it was worse! Rants to follow. Also I'll rant about the propensity for even having to kill a rattlesnake! Another fun not to be missed Nutnfancy GRV.

Very Rare! "How about you walk around him (a Western Diamondback Rattlesnake)" Exactly. Seen many a rattlesnakes in my back country hiking and never had a need to do anything but that. 1 2d Andrey Shlyakt I loved this review, it was freaking hilarious. Also liked seeing Last Suspect I miss him on the show hope he comes back more. 1 1d CinciDan08 Respectfully, why is Last Suspect wearing a mask outdoors? Even more so when he's with a family member? 1d CinciDan08 what are you using to tag the bottom of the magazines, especially LS's rig full of P365 mags? Does it last or just long enough to get in and out of the desert? I have several similar mags... 92FS, P229, PX4 and custom floor plates are too expensive and yellowish masking tape looks crappy. 1d Clint Allison That is probably the funniest review you've ever done 🤣 Idk why but.... I still want one. I think I'm just in love with everything 45LC 🤷 1d Zachary Plocek Birds head grip is good!?!…LOL What other semi auto handguns use it? You can’t find one unless you’re flipping through a history book. What AR,AK grips use it? Literally none. I can’t say it looks bad but if I did get one I’d be a 6” barrel 357 and it better shoot my 38 wad cutter hand loads like a laser at 25. Why wouldn’t you just got with a gp100 or a 1911? Better yet spend 400 and get a vintage Smith and Wesson. 24h Andrew Hirsch Nutn's review of the gun is worth more than the gun itself LOL! BTW, I'm sure there's a video out there that says it, but what the gloves that Nutn's wearing in the video? 13h Patrick Brichta Totally off topic...But: Time to Get Political boys and girls. I'm Not sure if anyone else has shared this yet, but we need to make our voices heard. These two links will take you to the automatic forms to share your thoughts on the proposed bans through the ATF. If our forefathers could stand up to British Redcoats for our freedom, you can take 5 minutes to fill out these forms. Actually the GOA has already supplied a form letter, so you won't even need to wrack your noggins too hard for what to say. Time to act is now, not after a ban takes place. h david rockwell Fill out some information, enter your name and send some ducats to the GOA. Thank you for posting the links. Get involved; next time they come for you. 7h Wayne H I always handled cougars by laying on my back....and keeping a good supply of wine....(when I was much younger, don't "Judge" me.) (They really seemed to like snakes.) My second cool derringer would be in 38 spl rated to +P. Goes to backpack flight or fight backup, and crossover ammo from my other gear..Chris Hibler Speaking of men killing things...It sounds like you look back on bullfrog target practice much differently now. Good for you. Yep...those derringers suck. The worst part imho is being hard to grip and cock with one hand. 2 3d Tacticaldoodle Kinda, but it does depend on the area. If you see some of those places at night, with a hundred plus big fat three pound frogs, then you feel less bad about culling a couple here or there. They do help with the bugs though... 2 3d soldier saint The next gun is the Tarantula slayer 2 3d Nancy Merrell-Robertson It's pretty, so I would display it. But I don't really enjoy shooting any non-semiauto pistol. 3d Guy Actual 1:48 in.... THATS LAST SUSPECT!!!!!! OMG!!! 3d Guy Actual 5:25 ... People hunt mountain lions? Why do I feel that be kinda messed up? 3d Load 9 replies Bravo I gotta know what watch last suspect was wearing early in the vid was it a gravity master? I just realized I need one of those! 3d The Nutnfancy Project Yes it was, great eyes...that's the gray one I think with my yellow hands mod on it...really xlnt watches. 1min Joshua Pulliam Ok Nutn, I have to let my BS in Conservation and Wildlife Management out and correct you. Because I just can't let it go. . . . And it is a rant! Snakes are not poisonous! They are venomous! I totally agree with you on this gun. I would never buy one. In fact I'm pretty much out on anything with limited rounds capacity like this. Thank you for all your hard work keeping us entertained! 3d Guy Actual I can understand the BS. It gets to me sometimes when people use "Good" when they should use "Well". Both my mother and my grandmother were English teachers and speech pathologist, and their wording OCD was passed down. Somehow they were punished with me... A dyslexic and disgraphic child. lol 1 3d Load reply Robert Avery Completely random request, but could consider doing a review of your truck? I know you've had it for a good amount of time. Any interest in getting a new one any time soon? 2 3d Guy Actual I second this 2 3d The Nutnfancy Project Copy guys I will do it. I am not planning on getting another one....I love my 2011 Titan! 2min Scott Reichard Joshua i covered the poison / venom issue. It is another of the many things that just makes me crazy. If you spend any time around a courthouse guns just constantly go off by themselves. And the folks that are too stupid to be around firearms and assume that that happens to everyone.. no it does not. Its not an accidential discharge when you were too stupid to check and handle the gun correctly. Most of the news idiots finally stopped saying drunk driving accident.. when you drink 2 liters of booze and drive 110 mph and run a red light and hit a family its no accident.. its just a crash. So now i had a rant of my own..."

I actually LOVE my 410/45LC derringer. As a person who stays on the boat and in the swamps this gun has taken out many snakes and even a few squirrels. It's funny, I hadn't thought about this gun in 5 years. this review made me remember all the fun I had shooting it, and how much I enjoyed the "second cool" factor. They are cool for the build quality and aesthetics. On the same token I have owned and thoroughly enjoyed the Taurus Judge and S&W Governor as well. I have no misconceptions of the ballistic validity of 410 gauge out of a handgun, but they are still fun to own. Thanks for the revitalized interest Nutn!

I love you Nutn. Been a Patron for a while. I mostly agree with everything you say. But you say Cougar attacks are so rare that you should not bother preparing for it. You are a major proponent of concealed carry for self defense. You sound like the people that say that the possibility of you becoming a victim of a crime is so low that the fact that people conceal carry is being over zealous and paranoid. Just a little perspective. Love you man! ❤️

I have a Ranger ll model. My son has a shorter model. Both are .45LC/410 . Each has a different style grip. The point of a derringer is a close range gun. Its not a target gun. Also, practicing with these guns is key to getting comfortable in shooting them. As far as animals go, animals Do attack. Rattlers do strike, and if you have little children around, a dead rattler is absolutely no threat. Accuracy is not a attribute of derringers, its a close range gun. This was an entertaining video! I did buy this in 9mm at half the cost of the snake slayer. I added a 45 acp barrel and rosewood grips. I did buy it just because, as I have many dozens of other firearms. When I handed it to a friend, his first comment was "I feel like I should hit someone with it." I cock it and shoot it one handed. I don't bother using the sights. Just point and shoot. I can hit minute of man very easily at 10 feet, even blindfolded! I had to remove the trigger guard to have any chance of using this thing. It is a cool conversation piece that nobody I know, would buy. I won't sell it because I no longer sell guns in this political market. I think of this thing as a better WWII era 45acp liberator. Thanks for the video!

I don't really like the argument of "the chances of x happening are so low that it's a waste of time to be prepared for it". The chances you'll ever need to use your carry weapon are exceedingly low as well, so are you suddenly against carrying for self-defense? Sure, the chances of getting into a scrape with a cougar/bear/etc are low, but it happens... I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Though a derringer would not be the "it" in the scenario, lol.

I’m with ya on the “Hunting Cougar” thing. I’m a Utah hunter. I love hunting. But I cannot reconcile killing an animal that I have no intention of eating. This ideology has caused more than a few family members to stop talking to me. Oh well. I have seen a cougar while hunting on two separate occasions and whether I took a deer or elk that trip or not, my hunt was made awesome by the sighting. They are amazing creatures. I also agree that carrying a reliable 9mm for “hiking defense” is plenty.

I have one of these. Quality workmanship-period. Everything you say is true. Trigger sucks; you gotta pull down on the trigger. Gun introduces flinch. I love it for the 'old West' nostalgia. NEVER would I carry it for a primary. It's seldom a backup or even a backup to a backup. But I love the quality and fun quotient. I took the trigger guard off and that does help a bit with the slap you get in the video. But the COOL factor is there and I like showing it off to friends/family. If anyone expresses an interest in purchasing one I immediately caution them to make them aware of it's shortcomings.

Several years ago, i owned, carried and shot a Bond Arms derringer- alot. In two years of carry i shot about 1500-2K of my upper mid range 45ACP reloads, and some 44 SPL, as i had both barrels. I wrote all this up in Backwoodsman 10 or so years ago. You CAN shoot it accurately, it will do some practical things, and you will not wear it out. But when it comes down to it, ANY J frame is lighter, holds more rounds, is easier and faster to shoot and reload, and carries less like a brick. This wore the back pockets of several pairs of carharts for me. You CAN pot small game with it, as I did, but you will need to work on the sights and trigger a good bit. And once you are done, you have a 24OZ 2 shot gun. I had alot of fun with mine, but sold it to fund another purchase. 45ACP was my first choice, as i have no truck with the shotgun chamberings. The Bond arms basically ended my quest for a practical "pocket gun". Oh, ive used the CCI 45 ACP shotshells in my Glock 21 for squirrel erad at camp back in the day. They cycled the glock fine, to my amazement. I'm surprised the 9mm version did not cycle. Perhaps they changed the load?

I simply dont believe that spread. Its possible to miss a target 9 feet away, but you can do that with a 308 rifle or 10/22 rifle as well. The anti-snake role isn’t primarily for hikers, dude, it’s for bumming around your rural property and keeping snakes from hurting your domestic animals or kids. Simple. Notice how that deflates a fair chunk of this “rant.” Mind you, I’m a suburbanite, and I have zero use for one of these gadgets, for many of the reasons you provide. But there are plenty of guys out in the country who keep a .410 Bond or (yes) Taurus Judge for this purpose. I see no reason to diss it. There’s also the truck console anti-carjacker role, maybe loaded with middle sized shot like BBs or 4 buck. Again, not my approach but I get it. Constructive criticism: negative reviews have traditionally been some of the strongest Nutnfancy reviews, but ever since you got self-conscious about it (“Rant! So I've had one of these for several years. The smaller, lighter "Cowboy Defender", and it was only $450 at the time. I will definitely say that a lot of your complaints are warranted. It is a super chunky gun for its size, but on the other hand, the small version does conceal easily and can readily pocket carry. I think it has it's place and serves a certain function, but if I'm honest with myself, the appeal when I bought it was definitely skewed more towards Second Cool. Bottom line is, it's a fun little gun with a VERY limited POU, but it's almost never my go to for defense or treks through the woods these days as I've upgraded to more practical options.

This is my view perfectly stated by this gentleman. Bottom line for me, it’s not the perfect gun for really any situation, but two rounds of some badass round is better than nothing when the pooh hits the fan. It looks like Nutn is purposely leaving out the ONE main point for this weapon, UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL USE; and by that I mean inside of ten feet or even less. Stop and think about that for a moment, would anyone want to be shot with pretty much any big bore round at any distance much less so close you can feel the percussion from the barrel, my guess is a resounding NO. So, rant on Nutn, but there are those of us who, like you don’t want to kill everything and we will walk around a snake in the woods, but we like the Bond Arms derringers and do carry them as backups to our main carry guns. Have watched and liked the channel for years and will continue to do so, but on this one I’m in the like camp. ; )

I own a Bond Arms Roughneck in .357/.38 with the so called current production upgraded trigger. Back and downward sort of helps with trigger pull on a Bond Arms. In Washington State, since cougar hunting with dogs was eliminated, cougar have overpopulated and the Deer and elk populations on the east side have been wrecked. Livestock and domestic animals are targeted because they no longer fear humans. They are now being seen more and more in residential neighborhoods, yes, killing house pets. Therefore, they require proper management like any other big game animal. Sorry nutn'. They aren't zoo animals that exist simply for your viewing pleasure. The same goes for Wolf re-intoduction, particularly in Washington where the reintroduced species it over twice the size of the extinct species, that kill not only for food, but for sport, requiring WDFW to shoot whole packs from helicopters. Coyotes? They overpopulate as well if not controlled. They take out fawns as they are born. Sorry to hear you are such a zoophile that you consider proper and beneficial wildlife management a near crime.

Because of your review and some others (Paul Harrel), I avoided the biggest gun mistake in my early gun acquisition lifestyle-- buying a judge. I had to get past fuds shilling for Taurus and S&W (the governor) and finally found some common sense. “If you have to have “snake shot” buy the cci shot shells.” Best advice ever. I went with a 357 mag revolver because of the cycling issues in auto loaders- 7 shot which is plenty for cougar and bear in the lower 48, and for piece of mind I carry two rounds of shot shell for rattlers. But as you said, just walk away if you see a snake…. It’s just for piece of mind. But the 357 mag blows away the 45 long colt and at 5 yards and out of a pistol there’s no difference between between 38 spc shot shell and 410 shot shell- both equally suck. Lol. I view the derringer as even worse than the judge although is it lighter? Either way glad I just got a regular revolver, thanks Nutn!!

If you think 357 is a more powerful round than 45 Colt you still have a lot of learning to do. You must be comparing the cowboy or range loads which are lawyer rounds so you don't blow up your 100 year old revolver that was made for black powder rounds. When you compare hot 357 to hot 45 Colt there is no comparison. The hotter 45 Colt is touching low end 45-70 stuff
@exothermal.sprocket
@exothermal.sprocket Жыл бұрын
@@evocati6523 Yep. Just a casual glance at Buffalo Bore options for 45 Colt, the energy ratings range from 1100 to 1300 ft-lbs energy. The best the .357magnum can manage from a 4 to 6" barrel is about 750-800 ft-lb at the very top of its capability. 20" rifle, that's a whole difference conversation. The .45Colt is held in low pressure creampuff status due to old iron from the early 1900's that is still chambered for it. It's liability. You have to go to the small companies known for power to get actual 45 Colt performance. In fact, the original 45 Colt load back in the 1800's when the cartridge was first developed was 255gr doing 1050 fps (624 ft-lb). The military backed it down for more manageable function, as it was "too much recoil" for the average soldier. Regardless. I've developed moderate loads in 45 Colt and even at 250gr doing 880-900 fps, it's no joke. It'll whack something harder than most people give it credit for. And it's only just getting started. Need power? 454 Casull. It's about as strong at 100 yards as the average 44 magnum is at the muzzle.

Just bought one of their Roughnecks in 38 special and right out of the box the shell extractor screw was extremely loose. The next problem was the derringer was almost impossible to open most of the time with rounds in it. The only way most of the time to open it was to fire the rounds and have to work with it to get it open. It is so tight that am scared the latch handle might break off. Does not seem to matter what brand of ammo used still has the problem. It is irritating that their quality control is lacking and this one should have not been sent out this way. I have contacted Bond Arms and they wanted pictures plus a description of what is wrong. Hopefully they will make it right. Will update when i can. Thanks Nutnfancy really enjoy you videos and your honest opinions as you are pretty well spot on.

As a primary pistol for animal or bad guys, any derringer will suck pond water compared to a subcompact polymer pistol. As a backup hideout piece, that’s where they shine. The mafia hitman called the Iceman merc’d more people with a gun like that than many green berets have with rifles. Many deadly encounters with firearms are over in less than 2 seconds, with 2 rds or less fired. The other thing about Bond Arms is the interchangeable barrels, giving the user/owner options when certain calibers of ammo become scarce. And furthermore, the rowdy and roughneck models are pretty stinkin’ inexpensive (around $250ish) when compared to a friggen $600-$700 SIG, jussayin.

I think it’s a cool niche pistol. They are super well made pistols. But when I considered buying one for CCW the weight turned me off. My ‘74 S&W 36 is all steel and lighter weight. It also gives me 3 more rounds.

I'm now wondering if Nutnfancy would have been so blase about Cougars killing dogs if one had killed Allie..... I'd also point out that the reason cougars and wolves damn near went extinct in North America (and wolves are extinct in westetn europe) is because our ancestors hunted them to that point and it wasn't just because they irrationally hated them. It's easy to love cougars or wolves when they arent hunting your pets, livestock, children, or in extremis, you.

Full disclosure: I'm in the "derringers suck" camp. You say that Bond Arms should do something different. Yes, they do. The Bullpup. Try it, seriously. I can't say you'll find it to be a duty gun at all, but you'll at least come out of it saying "I'd be happy to have that in the collection". I firmly believe that it is the most mechanically interesting handgun on the market, and might take the top place for most mechanically interesting handgun of all time. If you don't understand how they function, you should look into it. The gun feeds in reverse, using a dual claw mechanism to pull the cartridge backwards out of the magazine, uses an elevator mechanism to lift the cartridge onto the bolt face, and then gives the cartridge a straight shot into the rotating barrel. There are a few 1st kind of cool advantages to the system, but mostly the Bullpup is 2nd kind of cool. The internal mechanisms sap away the recoil energy like a PX4 does, so the subcompact Bullpup feels like it has the recoil impulse of a G19. It really is pleasant and smooth shooting. And you end up with a 3.3" barrel (meaning that all reputable hollow points will expand, unlike with some

If you want to shoot 45 Colt in a western style gun, buy a Ruger Blackhawk. Its over 30 ounces but for 2nd cool its a 6 shot single action traditional revolver that's really fun to shoot.

I can't believe the people defending this gun by saying "It's a range toy!" That's fine and all, but when the marketing is saying it's meant for another purpose and it fails to meet the needs of that calling, criticism in that regard is completely fair.

Trigger on a Bond Arms Derringer must be pulled "Downward and Back" which is i think why some have issue with trigger pull. They do not pull "Downward" they just pull Back. Also, lf you need to use this gun for self-defense you are most likely not wearing gloves at the time which i think affected your trigger pull. Here is what it states on Bond Arms Website about Trigger: The trigger pull on our pistols is approximately 7 pounds which is within the acceptable range for a pistol of this type. Derringers, being small compact pistols, require the user to operate the gun in a specific manner. With the hammer in the full cock position, grasp the grip with your shooting hand making sure that your hand is not touching the cocked hammer. Any amount of pressure applied to the cocked hammer by your hand will increase the trigger pull substantially. Make contact with the trigger using the pad of your trigger finger. Avoid pulling the trigger with the bend of your first knuckle. Pull the trigger downwards and back. And The bottom barrel is lined up with the sights and the top barrel may tend to shoot slightly high. To compensate for the top barrel shooting high, aim slightly lower until you find the right position.

Cougar defense is such a stupid concept. Carry a gun, but if your philosophy of use is to use it to kill a species which is threatened in many ecosystems, which is aggressive toward very few humans, that is so unbelievably stupid. It's not like carrying a gun for bear defense; bears require more power to incapacitate, and while attacks are rare, they can charge you and maul you to death. So, bears could require a dedicated gun with both sufficient capacity and/or sufficient power in order to kill (ie. a 10mm auto with full power loads), but I'd still say that my main concern walking in rural Appalachia, is that I am in meth country and I might encounter hostile junkies in the middle of nowhere. I believe a g19 with 147 grainers is suited for both of those situations, with the ability to carry additional extended capacity magazines and maybe some CCI shotshells for venomous snakes.
@drogers_3
@drogers_3 3 жыл бұрын
shotshells you gotta feed manually directly into the chamber, but if you really want to shoot them that's the best way. The plastic tip of the rounds will break and pour shot into your gun if you try to cycle them. I hate snakes and see a lot of them when I go fishing, and antivenom is expensive and not always available. Some of my fear is irrational, but the best go to tacklebox gun is the ruger lcr .22, which weighs nothing and can hold up to 8 shot shells for anyone who's asking. I hate those mfs falling from trees into boats.

@LinkHyrule03
@LinkHyrule03 3 жыл бұрын
But a .410 derringer wouldn't help you much there, especially against a bear. .410 from a 3" barrel performs well enough to handle a small snake or a bird at close range. 000 buck gets less than 600fps from a 3" barrel, so you're getting too little penetration to be reliably effective against humans, much less bears. Coyote is pushing it, but might work. A large cat, though? Yeah, a 600fps load isn't going to prove very effective.
