I can't think of a way to improve the new full flat ground (FFG) Delica 4 from Spyderco. This grind perfects what was already a near-perfect EDC blade. Slicing capabilities with this flat ground VG10 steel blade are improved over the regular saber ground Delicas (which are still excellent). The VG10 is a superb steel choice: great rust resistance, tough, holds a fine edge, and it's easy to resharpen. In many outdoor adventures, the Spyderco VG10 steel is a proven performer with me (also used in another Nutnfancy favorite knife, the Centofante III). Expect to find a thinner blade in the Delica 4 FFG version which is a welcome feature in the EDC role; sharper and more pointed tip can perform on-scene "surgeries" better. And Spyderco continues to lead the pack in terms of cllp design and nested stainless steel liner milling. The blackened Spyderco clip is strong, rounded to prevent ripping of your pants pocket (and scratching your car door!), and is positionable to all four corners for absolute variability. This clip carries the knife deep enough to prevent loss and provides fast extraction. The liners are completely milled out for the absolute lowest weight possible while still increasing the strength of the knife (I still maintain however that SS liners are not needed in a lightweight EDC knife). The Delica 4 FFG weighs in at an impressively lightweight 2.2 ounces. Deployment speed with the enlarged 13mm hole is fast, lockup is perfection (and adjustable), and the lock back design is strong. In this Delica you will also find a perfect run of jimping on the top of the thumb ramp as well. That will lock in your thumb for perfect control. The FRN handle scales have great traction with their bi-directional molded in texturing (at least on the sides). Finally, as of 2010 and subject to discontinuance, the Delica FFG comes in five great colors: blue, brown, grey, purple, and green (all cool). Price is somewhat elevated for the similar weight and capability EDC blades that I've reviewed here. However for its speed, ultra-lightweight, great steel, cool looks, strength, and exclusivity, the Delica 4 FFG is a convergence of perfection that constitutes good value. ///////////////// Likability Scale: 10 out of 10 ////////////////Music: Jason Shaw @ audionautix.com
